I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 936 - 459: True Future Sight

Nira cautiously ventured deeper into the cave.

Although her rational mind advised her that the red Giant Dragon was an extremely dangerous creature she should keep her distance from, an inexplicable curiosity and excitement in her heart compelled her to quietly approach.

She poked her head out from the cave entrance and gazed toward the depths of the cave.

Years of cave living had trained her eyes to see well in dark environments.

In the cold, rocky cave lay a beautiful and enormous Giant Dragon, and a handsome man, the likes of whom she had never seen before, was resting against the dragon’s back like Sleeping Beauty.

"So... so handsome..." she uttered a disjointed evaluation, while her heart began to race uncontrollably.

Just as she had sensed, he indeed was a handsome man.

And even more attractive than she had imagined, especially when compared to the men around her, who were often disheveled and unkempt, which made his exceptional appearance even more striking.

Please forgive her impoverished mind for struggling to find an appropriate term to describe his looks.

Perhaps her gaze was too direct, for the originally resting Red Dragon Hephaestus cast a glance toward her.

Scared, Nira retreated and hid behind a rock.

Fortunately, Hephaestus was merely curious about what she was sneaking around doing, and after a glance, he withdrew his gaze.

Not hearing the dragon get up, Nira looked again toward the depths of the cave.

She possessed an almost instinctive intuition, allowing her to precisely detect other creatures’ malice.

This intuition had saved her from danger multiple times.

It was precisely by trusting this ability that she dared to venture into the cave inhabited by the Red Dragon to inspect the situation.

She did not sense the unbridled malice from this fearsome giant beast that she did from other Demons.

She looked at Gauss’s clean face and luxurious attire, feeling a bit envious.

"What are the identities of this Giant Dragon and this person? Are they from the northern Human Kingdom?"

Since her birth, she had lived in this Demon Territory, leading a life fraught with anxiety.

For their small human settlement, the northern human territories were a distant homeland described only in tales.

They did not possess the power to traverse the Demon Territory.

There were likely many settlements like theirs, supposedly descended from the remnants of human forces from the last great world war.

Of course, over a hundred years had passed, and that generation had almost entirely died out, leaving only their descendants seeking a sliver of survival in the wilderness.

Compared to the safe Human Kingdom, the demon-infested environment around them was the real world they were familiar with.

So much so that some of the young couldn’t help but question whether the northern Human Kingdom truly existed.

Or perhaps it was merely a fantasy concocted by their ancestors to ensure their descendants didn’t lose hope.

Nira originally held such a skeptical view until this man, not far away, unexpectedly intruded into her ordinary world.

No matter how one thought about it, a cave-dwelling tribe like theirs couldn’t possibly support such a powerful figure, right?

Or perhaps there existed a larger human settlement?

Many thoughts surged furiously through her mind.

The fragmented information she possessed had led to a quite limited understanding of the world.

But intuition told her that the man not far away might be able to change the fate of her and her people.

Perhaps out of some mischievous whim, Hephaestus deliberately took a preserved meat chunk from the Storage Pouch in Nira’s view, then tossed it into his mouth as though snacking.

"Gulp—"

It was meat!

Nira embarrassingly wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, swallowing her saliva repeatedly.

Though it was raw meat, its plump texture made her salivate uncontrollably, not daring to imagine how it would smell roasted.

The opportunities for her to feast on meat were scarce, and most meat sourced was from their cave’s resident large rats. As for wild animals, the relatively impoverished surrounding soil seldom hosted many, as they preferred locations with direct water sources.

However, those places were often gathering spots for Demons.

They had to scout multiple times before possibly taking action once.

Under her longing gaze, the Red Dragon brought out a piece of meat bigger than Nira herself and swallowed it in one gulp.

The snacks it used to satisfy its cravings could feed their entire settlement.

At this moment, Nira was extremely envious.

This was the world of the powerful?

Just as she was about to yield to the temptation and turn to leave.

"Bang!"

A massive chunk of meat weighing hundreds of pounds landed precisely at her feet.

She looked at the dust-covered, crimson meat chunk, not feeling any semblance of disgust, only a pure desire for the meat.

She incredulously turned to look in the direction of the Red Dragon.

"Is this for me?"

She looked at the Red Dragon, pointed to herself, and asked.

"Mm."

Hephaestus turned his head and made a low sound.

Originally, he hadn’t intended to give it, but the intensity of her longing gaze induced a faint sense of guilt in him.

No choice, for as a dragon with both beauty and a kind heart, being truly benevolent, it seemed not excessive to part with a chunk of meat as rent payment for Gauss and himself. After all, it wasn’t like he was a callous and unreasonable occupier.

Although Hephaestus acted uninterested, Nira, having received the heavy meat chunk, was like a treasure found.

Perhaps this might sound exaggerated, but for their human settlement eking out survival in the Demon Territory’s crevices, such a substantial and clean meat supply was indeed rare.
