Chapter 1018: Chapter 490: Struggling to Hold On, Showing Signs of Defeat

Even if Eden hadn’t warned him, Gauss wouldn’t have been careless. He did have a massive advantage when facing goblins, but there was a full six-level gap between him and the Goblin Lord. The overwhelming advantage brought by such a level difference could easily offset many of the buffs on his body. Besides, one should never underestimate creatures like goblins.

Indeed, low-level goblins were weak. Compared to other monsters, they had no real advantages of their own. Their few racial merits lay in their powerful reproductive and survival capabilities, neither of which offered much help in head-on combat. However, it was precisely because of how feeble this race was that the strong individuals born from it were even more worthy of vigilance.

For them to grow from an insignificant role like a stray dog by the roadside into a powerful entity that dominated a region, they inevitably had to put in far more effort than other species. In such a brutal environment, those who weren’t strong enough would have long since been reduced to excrement for their own kind and other monsters.

Gauss’s body was plummeting. He urgently adjusted his flight posture in mid-air.

THUD!

His body crashed into the earth. The dragon scales on his body and the Gauss Force Field provided a powerful Protective barrier, ensuring he wouldn’t be injured despite the impact speed of hundreds of meters per second. But the monsters surrounding his landing spot weren’t so lucky. Dozens of monsters near the impact zone were instantly smashed into meat paste, and the shockwave from the crash sent hundreds more flying into the air.

WHOOSH!

Inside a crater several meters deep, Gauss knelt on one knee before slowly standing up. The tremendous, crushing weight that had suddenly been imposed on him was undoubtedly the work of the goblin in relentless pursuit.

“Is this its Domain?” Gauss wondered, narrowing his eyes slightly. Soon after, the Magic Power within his body surged rapidly.

SWISH!

Following a fleeting flash of blue light, his body abruptly reappeared in an empty clearing three hundred meters away. Meanwhile, the spot he had just occupied was engulfed by a streak of black light crashing down from a War Axe.

BOOM!!!

The ground, having already suffered immense damage from the previous impact, was subjected to a new round of roaring destruction. Thousands of shattered rocks and clumps of dirt were blasted over ten meters into the air. The black light that had landed turned its head to look at Gauss not far away. Its massive mouth slowly curved upward, splitting into a hideous grin that revealed brownish-yellow fangs. It tilted its head back slightly, twitching its thick nostrils as it gently sniffed the lingering, alluring scent in the air. An intoxicated expression washed over its face.

This was indeed the most appealing human it had ever encountered. The only pity was that the human was male; otherwise, it would have definitely captured him alive to bear its offspring.

While the Goblin Lord observed Gauss, Gauss was equally fixed on it. Compared to when it first appeared, the goblin’s size had actually shrunk considerably. It was now only a little over two meters tall, but the muscles all over its body had become incredibly dense. Moreover, a tight layer of flowing black energy wrapped around its dark green skin, making it look exceedingly formidable.

“Have I been grounded?” Gauss wondered. He had felt the pressure lighten significantly upon landing; the higher he went, the greater the restriction he endured.

“Are you alright, Gauss, my friend?” President Monroe’s voice came through.

“No problems for now,” Gauss replied.

Even as he responded, the Goblin Lord transformed into a ferocious streak of black light and charged at him again. Piercing sonic booms repeatedly tore through the air. This was a black beast with an incredibly powerful physique.

“Dragon Roar Missile!” He glided low to the side, simultaneously hurling a Dragon Roar Missile that locked onto his target. In the dark of night, the Dragon Roar Missile was exceptionally dazzling and eye-catching, flying nimbly like a living wyvern.

Moving at high speed, the Goblin Lord, Snaz, caught a glimpse of the agile Missile from the corner of its eye, remaining completely unfazed. It slightly raised its right hand. The black light entwining its arm then condensed into physical form, causing its right arm to suddenly inflate several times over like rubber. The arm grew even larger than its main torso, looking just like a Large Shield.

BANG!

Right before the Dragon Roar Missile could strike, it perfectly raised its black light-wreathed arm, and explosive power poured out!

BOOM!!!

The black light and the shockwave released by the Dragon Roar Missile erupted in mid-air, sending terrifying blasts of air churning outward. The Missile’s energy continuously tore at that layer of resilient black light energy, which seemed as tough as tempered steel.

A trace of surprise flashed across Snaz’s previously composed expression. The destructive force it felt on its arm had exceeded its expectations.

“Why is it so heavy?” it wondered.

Of course, this didn’t mean it couldn’t withstand the attack. In fact, it had blocked attacks with far greater destructive power and far more terrifying might. The reason for its surprise was simply that this strike shouldn’t have been this strong. Whether judging by the opponent’s flight speed or the intensity of Magic Power sensed from it, evaluating the attack from every dimension suggested that it shouldn’t possess the intensity it displayed upon detonating against its hand. This situation completely contradicted the judgment it had formed from its combat experience.

Its straight trajectory was also forcibly delayed by the explosive impact of the Dragon Roar Missile. In truth, this was the effect of Gauss’s [Goblin Expert] title. One of its most basic affix effects, “Star Destruction,” allowed Gauss to deal an additional 40% damage when fighting against the goblin race. A percentage-based boost, combined with the already impressive inherent power of the Dragon Roar Missile, made for a terrifying combination when stacked together. Furthermore, there was another effect: Deterrence. When enemies of the goblin race faced him, their overall condition would suffer varying degrees of decline.
