Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Introduce Qiao Meixia To The Public

When the family first caught sight of her, the uncanny resemblance was so overwhelming that they immediately launched a thorough background investigation.

In the end, their search unearthed the hidden truth. She was no mere stranger who happened to share Old Madam Jiang’s looks.

She was the genuine biological granddaughter of the powerful Jiang Family, who had been separated from her bloodline for eighteen long years.

And tonight, she would finally stand under the brilliant ballroom chandeliers to be presented to the world as the true, undisputed Young Miss of the Jiang Family.

Jiang Lukang, Feng Lan, Jiang Chinan, and Jiang Yanna were waiting together for Qiao Meixia. Feng Lan fully intended to scold Qiao Meixia the moment she stepped out, but after spotting Old Madam Jiang walking right beside her, she did not dare make a single sound.

"Let’s go in." Jiang Lukang announced.

The host officially announced the family’s grand arrival, and the heavy doors swung open. Jiang Lukang led his family onto the elevated stage.

The entire crowd watched them with intense interest. Everyone was eager to meet Jiang Lukang’s newly revealed daughter, wondering what kind of ripples and changes this long-lost child would bring to the family dynamic.

"Welcome, everyone. Thank you for gracing us with your presence at our family’s acknowledgement banquet tonight. We are gathered here to officially celebrate the return of our biological daughter, Qiao Meixia." Jiang Lukang began to speak to the microphone.

Suddenly, a bright spotlight shone directly onto Qiao Meixia. Instinctively, she squeezed her eyes shut as the harsh glare caused a sharp, temporary discomfort, forcing her to lift a hand to block the blinding light.

Jiang Yanna let out a quiet snort as she looked at Qiao Meixia from the corner of her eye. ’What an uncultured country bumpkin.’

"Many of you might be wondering about the sudden, quiet appearance of this child." Jiang Lukang continued smoothly. "Ever since she was a tiny baby, she suffered from frail health and constant illness. We did everything humanly possible to keep our baby safe and healthy, but nothing seemed to work. In desperation, we visited a sacred temple and consulted a wise monk, who revealed that this child could not grow up under our roof if she was to survive. He advised us that she had to be raised far away in a rural orphanage for her own well-being.

Because we desperately wanted her to live, we strictly followed the monk’s divine instructions. Unfortunately, the region where we sent our daughter was later hit by a catastrophic natural disaster, and we tragically lost all contact with her. Yet, we never stopped searching for our child until we finally located her in B City a few months ago. After reaching out to her and conducting all the necessary medical tests, we confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt that she was indeed our flesh and blood, the long-lost twin sister of Jiang Yanna. As for her name, our daughter wishes to continue using the name ’Qiao Meixia.’ The monk also noted that her original birth name was unlucky for her constitution.

I hope everyone here today can welcome Qiao Meixia as our beloved daughter. We love her dearly." Jiang Lukang concluded, wrapping up his carefully rehearsed speech with polished, noble words.

The host then took the microphone and smoothly handed it over to Qiao Meixia. This particular move was actually part of Jiang Yanna’s petty scheme. Knowing how much Qiao Meixia despised public speaking, Jiang Yanna had hoped this unexpected pressure would make her look like a frightened, pathetic cat who was too embarrassed to face high society. She fixed her eyes on Qiao Meixia, eagerly waiting for her to refuse the microphone in front of everyone.

Unfortunately for Jiang Yanna, she did not get her wish.

Qiao Meixia calmly took the microphone and brought it up to her lips.

"Hi, everyone. I am Qiao Meixia." Qiao Meixia said simply.

The entire ballroom waited in silence for her to elaborate, but she had already handed the microphone right back to the host. Caught off guard, the host took it back with an awkward laugh, quickly trying to smooth over the sudden silence by passing the microphone along to Jiang Suhan.

Jiang Suhan offered a charming smile as he accepted it.

"I am truly glad that my sister was finally found. I hope everyone here will take good care of her moving forward." Jiang Suhan stated warmly before handing the microphone back.

With the speeches concluded, the banquet proceeded. Jiang Lukang asked Qiao Meixia to stay by his side for a while, leading her around the room to introduce her to various prominent figures and high-society guests.

Qiao Meixia responded to their polite pleasantries with her usual cool, emotionless expression.

Seeing her complete lack of enthusiasm, a surge of frustration began building up inside Jiang Lukang’s chest. However, given the grand venue and the watchful eyes around them, he could not voice his irritation. In the end, unable to stand her indifferent attitude any longer, Jiang Lukang dismissively told Qiao Meixia that she could walk around on her own.

Qiao Meixia immediately wandered over to the lavish dessert table. Oddly enough, not many guests were eating from it. She did not know why, nor did she care to find out, as she was far more interested in deciding which pastry to try first.

She picked up a small plate and carefully selected three delicacies, which were all the plate could hold. Looking around the grand ballroom, she spotted a quiet, secluded corner where she could eat in peace. She strolled over, sat down comfortably, and began savouring her sweet treats.

It was precisely at that peaceful moment that trouble decided to step right into her space.
