Chapter 1192: Chapter 92: Persuading Eilistraee!
Moon Forest.
The difficult battle of the Bottomless Abyss has just ended, and Duncan’s demon form is attempting to master the High-tier Divine Artifact—Sewentam’s Sword.
Meanwhile, his human form on the Material Plane is escorting the fleeing Zor Elves to the Surface World.
A melodious and beautiful song echoed.
Though not fully understanding it, a large group of beautiful Zor Priestesses were almost naked, singing and dancing in front of him. Even if he didn’t know what this mysterious ritual was, Duncan politely sat in place, admiring their offering to the Gloomy Maiden—Eilistraee.
The church of the Gloomy Maiden Eilistraee consists entirely of priestesses, whose mysterious rituals prefer minimal clothing, hence the nickname ’Moonlit Maidens’.
The ceremony they were conducting was called the ’Circle of Song’.
It involved praying to their goddess and seeking guidance for the next steps. During the ritual, they would form a circle and take turns dancing, wearing as little clothing as possible.
Regardless of what should or shouldn’t be seen, Duncan had seen it all, and indeed, they were as smooth and bare as the bright moon.
Under normal circumstances.
Such rituals are usually quite private, and difficult for non-believers to attend, but Duncan’s power was too strong to ignore.
After the ceremony ends, it’s personal private time. The priestesses confide their day’s feelings and thoughts to the goddess during the evening prayer, somewhat like girlfriends chatting about ’gossip’. Sometimes, they even receive responses from the goddess.
Each of the Gods of Faith manages their church in different ways.
Some are based on slavery, others on feudalism, some as commercial associations, some in likeminded enthusiasm, some in laissez-faire, and some operate it like a social circle.
Clearly.
The church of the Gloomy Maiden Eilistraee is essentially akin to a social circle, and she is the goddess who loves to hear gossip, and listens to the confessions of her followers.
As a representative of the saintly persona, Eilistraee, besides being na?vely sweet, also holds the domain of ’Redemption’.
She is genuinely a good-natured Divine Spirit.
It’s only her fondness for streaking that doesn’t quite fit human aesthetics.
But considering it’s a Western-derived realm, enjoying streaking isn’t strange and can be simply respected.
Priestesses of Eilistraee often wear simple dresses, but during rituals, they wear very little and often are completely exposed.
Her church holds an important ritual called the [Noble Hunt], led by priests, where believers hunt a dangerous beast or monster at night. In the church tradition, regular believers are permitted to carry any bladed weapon and wear armor, but priestesses must be completely naked and can carry only a sword.
If they succeed in killing the target, all participants gather in loud prayer, then form a ’Circle of Song’ to praise the goddess.
Being friends with them, the benefits are beyond imagining.
Because it’s simply overwhelming to comprehend.
As night deepens.
Duncan had chopped down a worthy opponent today and watched dozens of beautiful naked maidens sing and dance in turn, making it quite a fulfilling day.
"I sense they could get along with the Joy Church?"
"The followers of the Goddess of Joy play music and dance all day, they should get along well with them."
Duncan considered whether to make an introduction.
Firstly, the Goddess of Joy, Lierla, is of weak divine power and needs some ally support. Secondly, the Gloomy Maiden attempting to mingle hasn’t opened the situation in the Surface World yet, and getting on good terms with the goddesses of the Bright Water Realm could indirectly ease relations with the Elf Pantheon since the Lady of Love, Shunni, has some influence in the Elf Pantheon.
Thirdly, Eilistraee could be useful in the future, and Duncan wanted to earn some goodwill.
The moonlight spilled.
After completing the ritual offered to the goddess, Eilistraee’s followers began to settle the fleeing Zor Elves.
It’s difficult for them to fit in the Surface World, as at least humans don’t trust them.
"Are you interested in going to Sambia?"
Duncan appeared before the frowning blade dancer Lilanrae—Nightsong, seemingly guessing the other’s thoughts, and spoke slowly: "I have a piece of land near Selggant."
"Though it’s quite barren."
"But it’s also adjacent to the Cormanthor Forest."
"And nearby is a stronghold of the church of the Goddess of Joy, Lierla. You should get along with them."
Hearing this, Lilanrae—Nightsong looked up in surprise, her expression respectful: "Lord Duncan."
"Are you not afraid we will cause trouble for you?"
Zor Elves are trouble.
Their betrayal and cunning have sunk deep into their bones, difficult to change in a short time, and they cannot gain the trust of surface races.
As a result, no one wants to accept them.
Even the Elf Pantheon does not want to.
While they could shelter a few fleeing Zor Elves, if too many, it’s not possible because these Zor Elves are refugees and not accepted by the standard elven society.
But monstrous and ghostly beings are also talented!
Duncan even uses demons, so why not treacherous Zor Elves?
Such people are best suited for dirty work and hard labor.
Eilistraee is indeed a bit na?ve. She wants to redeem the Zor Elves, but she doesn’t have any stronghold in the Surface World. If there was a shrine, it was destroyed by enemies.
Without even a home?
No one would be willing to follow her in that case.
Not all Zor Elves are Drizzt, who can wander the world, and many Zor Elves fleeing to the Surface World are likely to die soon after.
