Humanity Is Gone, but I Have Billions of Clones
Chapter 316: Green Light
To be frank, Haimo Lan somewhat looked down on Washilolo.
If he were truly exceptional, how could he have been just a low-level official back in the Harville Civilization?
But Haimo Lan was also keenly aware that, for now, Washilolo’s status in the eyes of the humans was irreplaceable.
It all came down to one thing: loyalty.
‘But that’s fine. Once I’ve achieved something real, the humans will eventually recognize my worth, and my loyalty too.
At that point, the position of chieftain will be mine for the taking.
Sigh, I was so foolish back then, thinking about striking out on my own, dreaming of one day restoring the Harville Civilization to its former glory.
Life in Human Civilization now is pretty good, isn’t it? The supply of resources is so abundant, and we don’t have to worry about any of the hard, tiring labor. We don’t even have to bear heavy responsibilities like the security of our civilization; we can just leave it all for Human Civilization to handle.
The atmosphere within our race is harmonious and positive these days. Everyone just focuses on finishing their work and enjoying life. Even the crime rate is at an all-time low. With the standard genetic optimization plan, our average lifespan has increased by nearly a thousand years, and the arts are flourishing. It’s nothing like it used to be…’
Shaking his head with a small smile, Haimo Lan closed his eyes, ready to drift off to sleep.
But just then, a sudden BANG came from nearby.
He glanced over and, in the dim light, saw that a cup that had been sitting securely on a surface had fallen to the floor.
A robot hurried over to pick it up.
“This robot must be malfunctioning,” he muttered. “Can’t even keep a cup in place. I’ll get a new one tomorrow.”
Perhaps because he was tired, but for some reason, he felt as if the dimly lit room was shrouded in a very faint green haze.
Haimo Lan didn’t think much of it and closed his eyes again.
CREAK—
Another faint sound reached him.
Haimo Lan opened his eyes with a hint of annoyance, only to see the housekeeping robot shaking its limbs, trying to steady itself. At the same time, it seemed to have grown much taller.
‘What’s going on?!’
Flipping on the light, Haimo Lan saw, to his utter shock, that the robot was levitating in mid-air!
The floor and walls in front of him seemed to be sinking…
Glancing around in horror, Haimo Lan realized it wasn’t that the floor and walls were sinking—it was that his own bed was levitating! His body, too, seemed to be suspended as if weightless, floating as though in water.
For a moment, even Haimo Lan, who had weathered countless storms, felt his mind go blank.
‘Weightlessness?! Did the habitat ship malfunction? Has the gravity failed?’
He knew that the habitat ship generated gravity by spinning to create centrifugal force. A loss of gravity could only mean one thing.
‘What happened? Is it a malfunction, or are we under attack?’
Haimo Lan scrambled with his hands and feet, “swimming” his way to the door. He left his apartment, only to be shocked once more.
The night sky was now veiled in a faint green light. The green layer seemed alive, clinging to every building and object—including his own body—like a coat of moss.
Every object covered by the green light was levitating, while anything untouched by it remained firmly on the ground.
He spotted Washilolo. The former minor official of the Harville Civilization was running desperately toward him—
‘Running?’
‘He still seems to have gravity, which must mean the ship hasn’t malfunctioned after all.’
Washilolo ran underneath Haimo Lan, grabbed his leg, and yanked him down, then began slapping his body forcefully.
The slapping must have worked, because the moss-like, unidentified green substance abruptly vanished. The next moment, gravity took hold of Haimo Lan once more.
He looked around and saw more people, more objects, and even an entire building, all glowing green and suspended in the sky.
The shroud of this strange green substance only extended for about a kilometer. Beyond that, everything was normal.
“Dammit, what the hell is this!”
In that instant, all sorts of ancient legends flooded Haimo Lan’s mind, and his voice began to tremble.
“Contact the humans! Contact the humans, now!”
“Everyone, do not panic! I have opened the escape corridors and dispatched sufficient transport ships. Please evacuate in an orderly fashion through the escape corridors! Washilolo, Haimo Lan, organize the evacuation immediately!”
Li Qingsong’s voice broadcast throughout the massive habitat ship.
Li Qingsong had detected the gravity anomaly inside the ship the moment it appeared.
He immediately maneuvered the habitat ship away from the main fleet and dispatched a fleet of 2,000 Warships to encircle it, ensuring he could destroy it at a moment’s notice. Only then did he broadcast his message to calm the Viller People and send transport ships for the evacuation.
The sudden sound of a human voice was like an instinctual trigger; the panic in Haimo Lan’s heart vanished instantly.
“Yes!”
The Viller Race administrators living on the ship sprang into action, organizing an orderly evacuation. Meanwhile, the large, seemingly insubstantial mass of green light remained motionless, staying in its original location.
After all intelligent life had been evacuated from the habitat ship, Li Qingsong, with a grave expression, dispatched a robotic scientific survey team.
‘An anti-gravity phenomenon appeared within the area shrouded by the green light? Is this mass of green light some phenomenon in the Cosmos I’m not yet familiar with, or is it some kind of… life form?’
Given the precedent of the Demon Eye, a parasitic Celestial Calamity, Li Qingsong didn’t dare let his guard down.
Numerous robots entered the now-empty habitat ship, surrounded the mass of green light, and immediately began taking all sorts of measurements.
“This thing occasionally emits electromagnetic fluctuations from within, but they don’t seem to follow any pattern.”
“It appears to have a will of its own. It can even control multiple objects, making them fly at high speeds through the air without colliding.”
After a few more attempts, Li Qingsong took out a portable Laser Gun and fired a shot at the large mass of green light.
The Laser didn’t penetrate the green-lit area; it seemed to have been diminished for some reason in the process. At the same time, a type of electromagnetic fluctuation was emitted from the green region.
‘So, a Laser blast triggers an electromagnetic response? Is there a correlation between the two?’
Li Qingsong thought for a moment, then switched to a more powerful Laser Gun and fired again. Just as he’d expected, the electromagnetic response occurred again, and it seemed slightly more intense than before.
‘Is there a correlation between the electromagnetic response and the Laser’s intensity? Let’s try again…’
