How to Bring Common Sense to Xianxia World

Chapter 261: Sarah Corner

— Wei Chen Personal Tent —

Wei Chen brought the blonde woman into the office section of his personal tent. There, Dream Butterfly was brewing tea for the guest and himself, as she knew he might be having a long conversation with this woman.

The woman’s mouth hung open as she stared at Dream Butterfly in awe. She had never seen any woman this beautiful! She looked like a goddess! Was it even possible for a real human to be this beautiful!?

"Your guest is quite strange, Lord Husband. She’s staring at me like she just saw a human for the first time," Dream Butterfly said as she brewed the tea, using her spiritual qi to regulate the heat and control the fire from the fire-starter artifact.

The blonde woman looked around as though everything in the tent was new and novel. Well... from her perspective, everything here did seem new and novel.

Whether it was the tent itself, which completely isolated the temperature outside from the inside, making it far more comfortable as if there were an AC unit hidden somewhere despite the entrance being nothing more than ordinary tent flaps, or the strange artifacts scattered around, everything was beyond her understanding.

Wei Chen took out a pen and paper without caring about the blonde woman’s confused gaze. Yes, it was just an ordinary pen that could easily be found on Earth, but this one was an invention of the Underworld Palace, so Wei Chen had no need to conceal it.

If there were any questions, he’d throw them at the Underworld Palace.

"Name and occupation?" Wei Chen asked in English.

"What... what?" the blonde woman asked, bewildered by the question.

"Tell me your name and occupation. I want to know who you are, where you’re from, and what’s behind the portal in your world," Wei Chen said.

"Is this an interrogation? Look, I’ll have you know my world has technology that surpasses yours by miles! And I’m the princess of the king in my world, so if you know what’s good for you, release me... right now!" the blonde woman said arrogantly, trying to bluff her way out.

"Sigh... I see..."

Wei Chen let out a tired sigh before gesturing for the blonde woman to follow him outside.

Once outside, he led her to the riverbank. Then he channeled his spiritual qi and activated his Underworld Bone Claw.

A thirty-meter-tall Avatar of Death manifested, with Wei Chen standing inside its chest.

Whoosh! Boom!

With a single claw strike, a large section of the vast forest on the opposite side of the river was sliced clean off. Even the ground itself was sheared away.

After a brief demonstration, Wei Chen dismissed the avatar and dropped back to the ground.

The blonde woman’s face had gone completely pale. Cold sweat ran down her forehead and back.

She had just witnessed destructive power on the level of a bomb. No... it was even more environmentally friendly than a bomb, since that wind blade didn’t generate heat or leave behind long-term environmental damage like chemical explosives.

Wait... why was she thinking of it as an eco-friendly weapon!?

That kind of destructive power could go toe to toe with her country’s military. And this was just one guy!

With that thought in mind, she looked around the camp and saw countless people dressed in black armor watching her as though she were some kind of attraction.

Did all of these people possess the same power as this guy?

That couldn’t be possible... right?

Wei Chen saw that the woman had received an adequate education, so he gestured for her to follow him back into his private tent.

"You’re back? Good timing. The tea is ready. I’ll bring you and your guest some chrysanthemum cakes next," Dream Butterfly chirped happily after pouring tea for both her husband and the guest.

She then exited Wei Chen’s office section, leaving the two of them alone, as she knew the conversation they were about to have would require some privacy.

"So... Princess," Wei Chen began, wearing a sarcastic tone and a thoroughly punchable smirk.

"Your name and occupation?"

The information poured out of the blonde woman’s mouth like a broken dam.

She was suddenly far too eager to cooperate. If Wei Chen hadn’t eventually told her to slow down, she probably wouldn’t have stopped talking.

Her name was Sarah Corner.

Yeah... a name that reminded him of the mother of the leader of the human resistance in that world where a murder-hobo AI ruled humanity.

According to her own complaints, she had always had problems with her name.

Well... he could imagine why.

With a name like that, people were bound to make jokes.

She worked as a freelance investigative journalist. Her team was small, consisting of herself as the founder and lead investigator, her friend Murphy, who worked as the cameraman and her assistant, a lawyer who was also her friend and helped whenever legal trouble came knocking, along with a few others who edited their reports and pitched their stories to various news outlets.

As for the other side, she explained that after a Kaiju named Leviathan, which was clearly a flood dragon from this side, slipped into her world...

It gave the US government quite a headache at first.

After being thoroughly humbled by the Kaiju, the US military temporarily retreated to develop a new strategy.

This time, they seemed to have gotten the job done.

She had no idea how the US government had discovered the flood dragon’s weakness.

Apparently, they dropped tons of cow poop onto the flood dragon’s head, enraging it while also weakening it in the process.

Then the carnival began.

Tank shells.

Artillery bombardments.

And finally, a MOAB detonated at the same height as the flood dragon’s eyes, followed by a mysterious weapon that completely severed the neck of the flood dragon.

She had been trying to uncover some answers, or at least a breaking news story, from the military base the US government had built to guard the place where they first discovered the flood dragon.

She got absolutely nothing from them.

Eventually, she decided to risk everything by diving in from nearly five miles outside the restricted area.

She admitted that she still didn’t understand how she had managed to reach this place.

Her oxygen tank should have run empty long before she got here, or she should have been caught by the patrols before getting anywhere close.

The next thing she knew, she was already here... and got detained.

"Okay, Sarah. Thank you for your cooperation. For your own safety, please stay here as our guest for now, and then I’ll find a way to send you back," Wei Chen said after receiving a substantial amount of information from Sarah.

"Oh! So... I can take a bath and walk around? I mean... your world is really beautiful. And can you please give me back my camera? I wanted to take some pictures... you know, as souvenirs," Sarah asked, chirping away nonstop.

Wei Chen could only smile wryly.

This girl really couldn’t shut up, could she?

"We’ll treat you as an honored guest. You’ll receive three free meals a day, or if you prefer, you can eat with our warriors in the mess tent. If you’d rather have your meals brought to you, our servants can deliver them to your personal tent. We’re going to set one up for you. You can also take a bath there. We’ll assign a mortal servant to help with your daily needs and help you get used to this world."

He paused and looked at Sarah.

"Are we clear?"

Sarah nodded repeatedly like a chicken pecking at grain.

"Absolutely!"

"Good!" Wei Chen nodded in satisfaction. His job was finally done for the day.

He then waited for the blonde woman to leave on her own.

But... after a few minutes, Sarah seemed to be enjoying the tea far too much, drinking cup after cup.

"Err... Mr. Wei, may I ask you something?" she asked.

Wei Chen nodded and signaled for her to continue.

"Where’s my... no, our chrysanthemum cake?"

Wei Chen rolled his eyes.

Did this girl really not realize that Dream Butterfly had only used the cake as an excuse to give the two of them some privacy?

He then called toward the outside.

"Yu’er, our guest wants her chrysanthemum cake. Is it ready yet?"

"Ah! Coming, Lord Husband!" Dream Butterfly hurried inside while still managing to keep her graceful demeanor.

A black wooden preservation box was placed on Sarah’s table.

"Here is your chrysanthemum cake. I’m sorry to keep you waiting," Dream Butterfly said with a warm smile.

Sarah, on the other hand, was blushing furiously.

She really wanted to marry this girl.

She was truly an angel!

"Oh! Thank you! Thank you!" Sarah said to Dream Butterfly.

It was the only Chinese phrase she knew.

Then, hugging the box of chrysanthemum cakes happily, she left with it in her arms.
