Chapter 2779: Story 2780: The Name Before Creation

  • Next Chapter

The whisper rolled through the mountain.

“My heart has returned. Now bring me my name.”

Ronan stood motionless as the golden door opened beneath the First Kingdom. Beyond it stretched an endless ocean of darkness, filled with floating crowns, broken swords, and countless faces that had been erased from history.

Each face had Ronan’s eyes.

Lyra approached him cautiously, her bow raised.

“Ronan, look at me. Whatever is calling you, it isn’t your master.”

His golden eyes shifted toward her.

For a moment, she saw the man she knew.

Then his lips moved, and a second voice emerged.

“She is wrong. I was its son before I was yours.”

Lyra’s fingers tightened around her bowstring.

“Then I’ll remind you who you chose to become.”

Ronan flinched.

Deep inside his mind, the forgotten child stirred.

She remembers you, the boy whispered. That is why you must not forget her.

The golden door groaned.

Something enormous moved beyond it. The Nameless King immediately fell to both knees, pressing its faceless head against the stone.

“Forgive me,” it murmured. “I guarded your prison. I preserved your stolen name.”

The First Mother staggered toward the doorway, her body flickering between flesh and crimson mist.

“You were never guarding a prison,” she said. “You were guarding the world from what waited inside.”

The King raised its head.

“And you were guarding the world from the truth.”

Black veins spread across the Mother’s throat.

Ronan turned toward her. “What truth?”

She tried to answer, but the darkness beyond the door swallowed her voice.

Then a hand emerged.

It was pale, ancient, and covered in golden symbols. Its fingers curled around the doorway, and the entire mountain shuddered.

Elias summoned his black chains. Aren raised a silver barrier, while Darian’s violet flames spread across the floor.

“Whatever comes through,” Elias warned, “we fight together.”

The hand tightened.

The barrier shattered before Aren could finish speaking.

Aren flew backward. Elias’s chains dissolved into black smoke. Darian unleashed a torrent of violet fire, but the flames bent toward the doorway as though bowing to their creator.

Ronan raised his sword.

The blade began to melt.

“No!” the First Mother screamed. “That weapon contains the last memory of my blood!”

Ronan stared at the glowing metal.

Suddenly, he understood.

The sword had never been made to kill the being beyond the door.

It had been made to remember what the world had forgotten.

He drove the melting blade into the stone.

A name appeared beneath his feet, written in red light.

The Nameless King began to tremble.

“No. You must not speak it!”

Ronan read the first letter.

Every star visible through the broken mountain vanished.

He read the second.

The dead kings began screaming.

Then the hand beyond the door released its grip.

A voice, gentle as a father comforting his child, filled the darkness.

“Good, my son. You have remembered the beginning.”

Ronan lifted his head.

The voice continued.

“Now remember who killed me.”

Behind Ronan, the First Mother whispered a name.

Her own.
