  • Next Chapter

The white eye stared down from the darkness.

Kael felt the kingdom tremble beneath his feet.

The First Soul rose higher, breaking through crimson stone.

Then the white eye blinked.

Every warrior screamed.

Lena grabbed Kael’s arm.

“What is happening?”

“It has remembered us.”

Kael raised his sword.

“Who is it?”

“The one who existed before the first beginning.”

The white eye descended.

Another appeared.

Soon, countless eyes covered the darkness.

Azael stepped backward.

“No...”

Kael looked at him.

“You know this.”

“I remember seeing those eyes when I was imprisoned.”

The sixth child covered his ears.

“They are calling me.”

Lena moved toward him.

“Stay with us.”

The child pointed toward Kael.

“They are calling him.”

Kael’s seventh mark burned.

A voice entered his mind.

“AZRAEL.”

“Show yourself.”

The darkness answered with laughter.

The First Soul roared.

Its enormous crimson eye opened fully.

“LEAVE MY CHILDREN.”

The white eyes turned toward it.

“Your children?”

The First Soul’s body shook.

“They belong to me.”

“No.”

“They belong to the first soul.”

Kael froze.

The seven marks around him began glowing.

Azael’s symbol connected with his.

Lena’s red light joined them.

Elias’s golden veins ignited.

The fifth and sixth children released black and silver energy.

Then the seventh mark opened completely.

A gigantic white symbol appeared above Kael.

The First Soul looked at him.

“Remember.”

Kael saw a vision of seven children inside a vast temple. They were fragments of one enormous soul.

In the center stood Kael.

Azrael.

Around him stood Azael, Lena, Elias, the fifth child, the sixth child, and one empty place.

The empty place suddenly filled with darkness.

Kael heard the white-eyed voice.

“The seventh was never a child.”

The vision shattered.

Kael returned to the crimson kingdom.

“What are you?”

The darkness descended.

A massive white hand emerged from the sky.

The First Soul attacked.

Its crimson energy struck the hand.

The white hand continued downward.

Kael stepped forward.

“No one touches my family.”

The hand stopped.

Silence filled the kingdom.

Then the white eyes focused upon him.

“Family?”

The voice laughed.

“You still believe you are separate.”

Kael’s sword began transforming.

Black fire covered the blade.

The seventh mark moved from his chest into the sword.

Azael stared.

“Azrael...”

Kael raised the weapon.

“I remember enough.”

He charged.

The sword struck the white hand.

A sound like the breaking of worlds exploded through the kingdom.

The hand cracked.

The darkness screamed.

Then a gigantic face emerged beyond them.

It had no mouth.

No nose.

Only endless white eyes.

The First Soul whispered,

“The Nameless Beginning.”

Kael stared upward.

The ancient enemy spoke.

“I was here before your first breath.”

Kael lifted his sword.

“Then you should have killed me before I was born.”

The creature became silent.

Kael smiled.

“Because now...”

His brothers and sisters stood beside him.

“...you have to face all of us.”

The kingdom exploded with white light.

Beyond the beginning, something ancient whispered Kael’s forgotten name.
