Chapter 2553: Story 2554: The Silent City of Asterion

The radiant pathway carried the travelers beyond the boundaries of their own universe.

Stars streamed past like glowing rivers, while galaxies drifted beneath their feet. The farther they traveled, the dimmer the light became, until even the Astral Crossing faded into the distance.

Finally, the silver-robed traveler stopped.

Before them floated a magnificent world wrapped in fading silver clouds.

"This is Asterion," he said softly.

"It was once called the Realm of Endless Harmony."

Victoria looked down upon the planet.

Its oceans shimmered like liquid crystal.

Towering mountains pierced emerald skies.

Floating islands circled enormous cities built from white marble and radiant glass.

It was breathtaking.

Yet something felt terribly wrong.

"There are no birds," Lucas Reed whispered.

"No wind," Father Gabriel added.

"Not even the sound of water."

The traveler nodded.

"Hope gives every world its song."

"Asterion has forgotten how to sing."

He raised his blue-star staff.

A gateway of silver light opened beneath them.

"My journey ends here."

"The Path of Balance belongs to you now."

Victoria bowed respectfully.

"Thank you."

The traveler smiled.

"Bring them dawn."

With those final words, he vanished into starlight.

The companions stepped through the gateway.

Warm sunlight greeted them.

They stood within a magnificent garden surrounded by towering white trees whose crystal leaves shimmered like diamonds.

Colorful flowers covered the ground.

Yet none carried fragrance.

A fountain stood nearby, its water flowing silently despite cascading over polished stone.

Cole frowned.

"This place looks alive."

"But it feels..."

"Empty," Dr. Evelyn finished quietly.

They followed a marble road toward the floating capital they had seen from above.

As they entered the city, hundreds of people passed by.

Every citizen wore elegant silver robes.

Every building gleamed with impossible beauty.

Every street was perfectly clean.

Yet every face remained expressionless.

No laughter echoed through the marketplaces.

Musicians sat holding beautiful instruments they never played.

Children walked beside their parents without speaking.

Even merchants exchanged goods without smiles or conversation.

Victoria approached an elderly woman arranging luminous fruit upon a market table.

"Good morning."

The woman slowly looked up.

"Good morning."

Her voice carried no warmth.

No curiosity.

No life.

"My name is Victoria."

"We’ve traveled very far."

The woman simply nodded.

"We welcome travelers."

Then she returned to arranging the fruit in perfect silence.

Cole leaned toward Victoria.

"That was unsettling."

"It was," Victoria agreed.

Before they could continue, a young boy accidentally dropped a crystal lantern.

It shattered across the marble street.

Everyone stopped walking.

Not to help him.

Only to stare.

The frightened child quickly knelt, gathering the broken pieces with trembling hands.

No one moved.

No one offered assistance.

Selene immediately walked over and knelt beside him.

"Here."

She gently picked up several fragments.

The boy looked at her with wide eyes.

"You..."

"...are helping me?"

"Of course."

The child blinked in confusion, as though he had never witnessed kindness before.

An elderly man nearby quietly whispered,

"People no longer do that."

Dr. Evelyn felt her heart sink.

"They’ve forgotten compassion."

Suddenly, every silver bell throughout the city rang at once.

Deep.

Slow.

Perfectly synchronized.

The emotionless citizens immediately stopped what they were doing.

Without a single word, they all turned toward the towering palace floating above the city.

Thousands began walking in the same direction.

Not by choice.

By habit.

Nox’Rath’s expression darkened.

"This isn’t ordinary despair."

Victoria looked toward the silent procession.

"What is it?"

He spoke gravely.

"Someone has convinced an entire civilization that feeling is a weakness."

High above the palace, a solitary figure dressed in robes of pure white watched the newcomers from a crystal balcony.

A faint smile crossed the stranger’s face.

The Keeper of the Living Dawn had arrived exactly as expected.
