Chapter 2538: Story 2539: The Heirs of the Black Star
The first rays of dawn struggled to pierce the storm above Blackstone Ridge.
Golden light and endless darkness collided across the heavens, painting the sky in brilliant shades of white, crimson, and silver. The mountain trembled beneath the approaching footsteps of the six Fallen Guardians.
Each step echoed across the world.
Each heartbeat reminded humanity that time was running out.
Victoria Kane stood upon the shattered summit with the Crown of the Black Star gleaming above her brow.
The Dawnblade rested in her hand, its white flames rising like the promise of a new sunrise.
She looked across the gathered defenders.
There were no kings.
No nobles.
Only survivors.
People who had chosen hope over despair.
"They’re counting on fear," Victoria said, her voice carrying across the battlefield.
"Then today..."
"...we give them courage."
A mighty cheer answered her words.
Cole Mercer adjusted the glowing rifle slung across his shoulder.
Golden runes shimmered along its barrel.
"It feels lighter."
He smiled.
"But stronger."
Dr. Evelyn examined the transformed weapon.
"The Crown isn’t changing metal."
"It’s amplifying the will of its bearer."
Nearby, Lucas Reed tested his new bow.
As he drew the string, a radiant arrow formed from pure light without leaving his quiver.
He released it toward the clouds.
The arrow became a brilliant comet before disappearing beyond the horizon.
Lucas laughed.
"I don’t think I’m running out of arrows anymore."
Commander Selene Voss crossed her twin blades.
Golden sparks danced along their edges.
"The Black Star hasn’t awakened weapons."
"It has awakened us."
Father Gabriel stepped into the center of the assembled warriors.
Raising his radiant cross, he spoke with calm conviction.
"Today we do not fight for revenge."
"We fight so children yet unborn may see tomorrow."
His words spread through the ranks like a sacred oath.
Even exhausted soldiers stood taller.
Far below the summit, the Hollow King watched in silence.
His burning crimson eyes no longer held confidence.
Only calculation.
"They’re becoming stronger together."
He turned toward the towering Devourer.
"If they unite..."
"...even you may fall."
The Devourer offered no answer.
Its silver-black eyes remained fixed upon Victoria.
Then, for the first time since its awakening, it raised one enormous hand toward the approaching horizon.
The six distant giants stopped.
One by one, they bowed.
Not in obedience.
In recognition.
Arkanis’s ancient voice echoed across every mind.
"They remember him..."
"...not as the Devourer..."
"...but as Kaelor, First Guardian of the Light."
Victoria frowned.
"If they still remember..."
"...then perhaps they can still choose."
The Hollow King laughed harshly.
"You still believe redemption is possible."
"You mistake memory for mercy."
Before Victoria could answer, Dr. Evelyn’s floating journal burst open.
Its pages turned rapidly on their own until they stopped at a newly revealed passage.
She read aloud.
"When the Seven stand together, one path leads to oblivion. Another leads to restoration. The choice belongs not to the Fallen, but to the one who bears the Last Light."
Every eye turned toward Victoria.
The Crown shimmered softly.
The Dawnblade hummed with ancient power.
The Last Sentinel stepped beside her.
"The prophecy is complete."
"The Last Marshal was never chosen merely to defeat the darkness."
He looked toward the six approaching giants.
"You were chosen..."
"...to judge the First Guardians themselves."
At that moment, the nearest Fallen Guardian emerged from the eastern mountains.
Towering over every fortress ever built, the stone giant carried a colossal broken shield marked with the faded symbol of the First Light.
Its silver eyes met Victoria’s.
Then, slowly, the ancient guardian drove one knee into the earth.
It had not come to attack.
It had come to await the Last Marshal’s judgment.
Across Blackstone Ridge, every warrior stood in stunned silence as the fate of the First Guardians—and perhaps the world itself—rested in Victoria Kane’s next decision.
