Hogwarts: I Am an Exemplary Wizard
Chapter 1230: Rumors Abound, Gulf Between Brothers (2)
He proactively ordered two glasses of the best brandy, while handing him a common brown paper bag.
“What’s this?”
“Something I borrowed from you,” Kael said, “I told you I would return it, and now it’s back to its rightful owner.”
When they encountered the Unspeakable, Kael took the Invisibility Cloak off Arianna, and the witch didn’t mention it before leaving. It seems the Department of Mysteries must have a way to handle an Obscurus, sparing him the worry.
“You really returned it to me?” Kode still found it hard to believe.
“What, don’t you want it?” Kael raised an eyebrow, “Then I’ll just keep it with reluctance…”
“Who said I don’t want it.” Kode snatched the brown paper bag and held it in his arms, lowering his voice: “I just didn’t expect you would actually return it to me. In fact, when I handed the Invisibility Cloak to you that day, I hadn’t thought I’d see it again.
“And back then, I even felt a slight sense of relief.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Because it’s also a huge trouble,” Kode said, taking a sip of the brandy. “For hundreds of years, countless wizards have been searching for the Holy Artifact. It’s funny to think about, but last night was the best sleep I’ve had.”
“Why don’t you get a few more good nights of sleep?” Kael laughed, “I certainly wouldn’t mind.”
Kode didn’t speak, just tightened his grip on the brown paper bag to indicate his stance.
“Just a reminder, even though you returned this to me, you can’t have back what you left before… I drank it all.”
“I didn’t intend to take it back,” Kael said, “We’ve already discussed this; it was compensation.”
“But speaking of which,” Kode hesitated, glancing at Kael, before finally asking, “This is a legendary Holy Artifact, are you really willing to return it?”
“It’s just a magic item,” Kael waved dismissively, “Besides, I’ve even seen Rowena Ravenclaw’s diadem, why care about this?”
“Ha, how can anyone get drunk before even starting to drink.” Kode chuckled, “If you’ve seen Rowena Ravenclaw’s diadem, then I’ll…”
He glanced around, “I’ll take my pants off and run around Godric’s Hollow.”
“Be sure to let me know when the time comes,” Kael laughed, “I’ll prepare some eye-cleansing potions in advance; it could make a fortune.”
“Well, you have to have seen it first,” Kode scoffed, “Rowena Ravenclaw’s diadem is much more mysterious than the Holy Artifact. There are even fewer legends about it. I guess Rowena Ravenclaw must have taken it to a place where no one can find it, so don’t brag.”
“Let’s just assume that’s the case,” Kael shrugged and didn’t offer further explanation, “Now tell me, why did you bring me here?”
“Just some rumors. It’s inconvenient to talk about them over there,” Kode took another sip of brandy. “Some people believe the Dumbledore girl is a Squib, which is why Kendra keeps her locked at home. She’s a pitiful child.”
“Why say that?” Kael asked with keen interest.
“Because of Kendra’s personality,” Kode said, “You don’t know, she’s quite a terrifying woman… Oh, maybe ‘terrifying’ is not really appropriate, but there’s some truth to it. She’s very proud and overbearing. Of course, Kendra has her good side. Anything she handles is always done beautifully, and generally, she’s willing to help anyone in need, unless…”
“Unless what?”
“Her identity,” Kode hesitated, “I probably shouldn’t be telling you this… never mind, you’re no outsider.
“It’s like this, they say Kendra was born a Muggle, but she insists on claiming otherwise. Anyone who mentions it faces her wrath.
“If such a person had a Squib child, there’s no way she could let them out, especially after Albus showed extraordinary magical talents.”
“Born a Muggle?” Kael wondered, “Who said that?”
“Seems like a Hogwarts student from her year.”
“Just one?” Kael tapped his finger on the table, “Do you believe it?”
“To be honest, I don’t,” Kode shook his head without hesitation, “Besides, it doesn’t matter; everyone’s got a few Muggle-born witches or wizards in their family here.
“It’s just that this suddenly appearing girl brought up this old matter again. I still can’t figure out why Kendra locked her daughter inside.”
As Kode spoke more and more, Kael also gathered a rough image from him.
She was a strong-willed, upright, but very capable witch.
As for Dumbledore’s father… no one had seen him; when the Dumbledores moved here, it was just the three of them… Kendra, Albus, and Abeforth.
Gradually, the bar became more crowded. Although it wasn’t evening yet, the place was already full.
And everyone was only talking about one thing, the sudden appearance, and sudden death of Arianna.
People were incredibly curious, someone under their very noses had been imprisoned by her own mother for so long.
There was anger, suspicion, blame… everyone had their opinions, but most voices believed Kendra was an incompetent mother, although a small number thought there must be a misunderstanding. However, their voices were so small that they were quickly drowned out by the noisy chatter.
