Hogwarts: I Am an Exemplary Wizard
Chapter 1211: Farewell, Dumbledore
Godric’s Hollow is not a large place, and news travels quickly throughout the valley when something happens.
For instance, not long ago, it was well known across the valley in just a few days that Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald had left without a word.
This time, it spread even faster. Aberforth emerged from the woods at dusk, and within an hour, the news of him being beaten by a Kneazle became the ‘gossip’ at the Valley Bar.
Many people laughed until they were bent over, tempting them to drink a bit more, including Kode.
“Hahaha… That kid is really brave. Even we don’t dare to mess with those Kneazles, and yet he dared to go alone.”
“Why, are the Kneazles here very fierce?” Kael asked curiously.
He had been to that stretch of woods too, and didn’t feel anything special at all.
“Rather than fierce, it’s more accurate to say they’re clever,” Kode explained, “The Kneazles in Godric’s Hollow are the smartest Fantastic Beasts I’ve ever seen. They even set traps to tease the wizards who enter the woods.”
“Traps?” Kael raised his eyebrows.
He could believe the Kneazles are smart, but creating traps seems a bit exaggerated.
“Don’t doubt it.” Kode said earnestly, “I don’t know how they learned it, perhaps they’ve seen wizards do similar things, but I’m definitely not exaggerating.
“I remember when we first moved here, I wanted to pick some wildflowers to decorate the garden, but before long, I fell into a pit…”
At this point, Kode couldn’t help but frown, gulping down a big mouthful of brandy, “I won’t talk about the process—you wouldn’t want to hear it—but I can be sure that the pit was definitely dug by the Kneazles, and they even covered it with dry leaves for camouflage.”
Kael raised his eyebrows.
Kneazles… pits…
Seeing Kode’s expression full of resentment, it seems the experience left a deep impression on him.
He wisely refrained from asking further and instead shifted the topic, “You said when you just moved here… did you not live here before?”
“Of course not,” Kode shook his head, “Our family lived in Gedun Heights before… just south of the valley, not far.”
“Then why did you move here?”
“Because that place was too close to Muggles,” Kode sighed, “Several times when I used magic, I almost got discovered by our neighbors, and our family is in the Magic Potion business. Many potions emit special smells during brewing, so moving to Godric’s Hollow is more convenient.”
Kael thoughtfully rubbed his chin.
The Highlands… and just south of Godric’s Hollow… could it be the place Grindelwald and Dumbledore went to?
Kael remembered that Grindelwald had mentioned he got information from Bathilda saying that a Holy Artifact might exist in the Southern Highlands of Godric’s Hollow.
It just so happens that Kode’s last name is Potter, a descendant of Ignatius, the youngest brother who got the Invisibility Cloak.
In other words, what Grindelwald is seeking is one of the Holy Artifacts—invisibility cloak—but the Potters have moved from the Highlands to the Valley, so he’s destined for a fruitless trip this time.
With this, everything made sense.
Kael shook his head with a smile, thinking Grindelwald would never realize that the thing he wanted was so close to him.
“Luckily, we moved here,” Kode raised his glass and downed the brandy, “It’s much more comfortable to be with wizards. We can gather and drink together when we have free time—both Patina and I love this life.”
“Indeed,” Kael nodded, finishing his drink from his glass as well.
…
Time quickly reached dawn.
Although Aberforth returned from the Kneazles defeated, that night, he did enjoy a rare good sleep, hearing no disturbances throughout the night.
As for the reason, it was naturally because Kael had other matters that day and had not met Arianna as agreed.
…Dumbledore arrived—not the young Dumbledore, but the Hogwarts Headmaster with white hair, returned from a hundred years in the future.
That night, after Kael and Kode parted ways at the bar, he originally intended to find Arianna, but halfway there, he suddenly heard a dull crashing sound coming from the Extendable Ears.
Earlier, he had hidden half of the Extendable Ears in the corner of the barn to observe the situation inside.
However, back then, only the young Dumbledore and Grindelwald occasionally visited the barn, seemingly treating it as a secret base free from interruption—talking life stuff and discussing ideals.
But now, they’ve gone to other places and are no longer in Godric’s Hollow, plus he left as well… so what was the crashing sound?
Kael’s heart skipped two beats, and he immediately turned and raced toward the barn’s location.
He pushed open the door and indeed saw Dumbledore weakly sitting on the ground.
His face was as pale as a sheet, dressed in a robe that looked like it was scavenged, his previously well-kept beard now a mess.
Kael had never seen Dumbledore in such a miserable state.
“Professor…” he hurried over to help Dumbledore up from the floor.
“How are you?”
“Thank you,” Dumbledore said weakly. He looked at Kael and asked in confusion, “But I’m sorry, child; you just called me professor, but could it be you mistook me for someone else? I don’t recall teaching you.”
“You don’t remember me?” Kael froze as well.
