Hogwarts: I Am an Exemplary Wizard
Chapter 1208: Arianna
Chapter 1208 -839: Arianna
At night in Godric’s Hollow, Dumbledore and Grindelwald eloped… uh, that is, they secretly forged a Blood Alliance Contract in the barn and then ran off together—short version.
Meanwhile, on the rooftop above the Dumbledores’ attic, a girl in her early teens was struggling out of the window, scrambling on hands and feet onto the roof.
“What were you wearing just now?” She walked over to stand beside Kael and asked again, curiosity piqued. “I couldn’t see you earlier.”
“An Invisibility Cloak,” Kael said. “Also called an Invisibility Cloak. A little gadget that lets other people not see you.”
He picked up the Invisibility Cloak and draped it over Arianna’s shoulders. The girl immediately let out a startled cry.
“Ah, I really disappeared.”
Then she hurriedly clapped a hand over her mouth and nervously glanced at a nearby window. Only when she saw no sign of movement there did she let out a tiny breath of relief and continue staring curiously at the half of her body that had vanished.
“What’s wrong?” Kael turned his head as well. If he’d guessed correctly, that should be Abeforth’s room…
“N-nothing.” Arianna shook her head quickly and lowered her voice. “We’d better keep it down, or we’ll wake up Brother Abeforth. He’s really scary when he’s mad.”
“It’s fine.” Kael said with a smile, fishing a Shrieking
Book out of his pocket.
It was a product from Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, a trinket modeled after the Restricted Area in the library. The moment you opened it, an ear-splitting scream burst out from inside.
Arianna was frightened out of her wits and turned at once to dart back into the attic.
But she quickly realized that Abeforth, who normally woke at the slightest sound, still hadn’t turned on the light in his room.
Arianna suddenly felt a little panicked.
“Don’t worry, he’s fine. He just can’t hear anything from our side.” Kael hurried to explain.
“Can’t hear?” Arianna turned back, puzzled. “Why can’t he hear? Brother Abeforth’s ears are really good.”
“Muffliato,” Kael said softly. “A very practical, simple Charm. You could do it too.”
As he spoke, Kael kept watching Arianna.
At the word “Magic” Power, a faint black mist inexplicably seeped from her shoulders. Even at night it was quite conspicuous, yet she herself seemed unaware of any change in her body.
“I… can, too?” Arianna asked, somewhat dazed.
“Yes. You’re a Witch. Of course you can.” Kael went on, his voice carrying a hint of something almost like seduction.
This time, obvious resistance flashed in Arianna’s eyes. Her expression grew distant, and the black mist on her shoulders thickened, even spreading down along her arms.
The black mist drifted outward and settled on the roof tiles; the tiles immediately crumbled into powder.
This was an Obscurus.
Kael tensed inwardly.
Without exception, Obscurus are fiercely opposed to using Magic, reject their identity as Wizards, and subconsciously push away any related topic.
Right now Arianna was already at the threshold. Kael was certain that if he said even one more thing about Magic, that black mist would instantly shatter the restraints of her body and surge over to tear him into pieces.
But this was intentional on Kael’s part—he had already gotten the answer he wanted.
Ever since he arrived, he’d been planning to check on Arianna’s condition.
She was Dumbledore’s unresolved burden… Dumbledore had come back even though he didn’t care about the Magic Realm or Voldemort anymore, which said enough.
If nothing was done, Dumbledore probably wouldn’t leave with him easily, even though Kael’s purpose this trip was to save him.
Although this meeting had been unexpected, and the setting a bit hasty, in a certain sense it was just right.
There was no one else here; the most perceptive ones, Dumbledore and Grindelwald, had both left, leaving only Abeforth, who had just entered fifth year.
As long as Kael wished it, whatever he did, Abeforth would never notice.
If he waited until Grindelwald came back, it wouldn’t be so easy to approach Arianna.
So only after a brief moment of thought had he said those things to her.
Through a simple test, Kael discovered that Arianna’s situation wasn’t nearly as bad—in fact, it was much better than he’d expected.
Before coming here, Kael had deliberately looked up information on Obscurus and written to consult Newt.
Newt had an Obscurus in his case; he himself had studied the thing for a long time. According to him, whenever an Obscurus came into contact with anything related to Magic, there was a chance of a Magic Power eruption.
But Arianna was different. The first time Kael mentioned Magic, she’d only shown mild resistance and had even remained conscious. If he’d changed the subject at that point, nothing at all would have happened.
Even when Kael got a bit bolder the second time and directly pointed out her identity as a Witch, Arianna had actually managed to keep her emotions in check, forcing herself not to let the Obscurus break loose.
If this continues to progress and she fully accepts who she is, then Arianna will be able to control the Obscurus perfectly, turning it into her own help rather than a threat.
But that’s very hard. So far, there’s only one person who’s managed it… Well, not “so far”—at this point in time, that person hasn’t even been born yet.
