Hogwarts: Bloodline Legend
Chapter 1258: Ian's Guidance (2)
He first affirmed the other’s value, then shifted the conversation to present his own observations.
“However, speaking of details… I noticed that during the engraving of the sequence runes, there seems to be a momentary fluctuation of about two percent in the output of your magic power when transitioning.”
“Although exceedingly subtle, successfully covered by the overall energy of the ritual and not affecting the final outcome, if you can achieve a perfectly smooth transition, it might allow the child to switch between these two attributes of magic power more fluidly in the future, reducing about five-thousandths of extra spiritual power consumption. This would be considered honing the technique to its finest point.”
Ian’s words were very complimentary and also showcased his ability.
Caleb’s pupils contracted. He recalled the process earlier sharply, his face slightly changed. That fluctuation was something he almost hadn’t noticed himself, yet the other had seen through it at a glance?!
Ian continued, “Also, between the third and fourth strokes of the seventh set of composite rune ‘Heart Fire Seal’, the angle might be inclined about 1.7 degrees more.”
“It isn’t an error, but if adjusted like this, it can better conform to the child’s own weak life fire attribute tendency, potentially enhancing the power of flame-related magic by about three percent in the future, while reducing consumption by two percent.” There remains room for improvement in perfection.
It wasn’t that Ian was showing off.
Rather, this is all he could summarize at the moment.
Indeed.
This was already enough.
Caleb was stunned, subconsciously using his finger to trace the angle Ian mentioned in the air, the more he deduced, the wider his eyes opened, and his breathing became more rapid. Not only did he identify the problem, but he also optimized it to perfection! Even the child’s hidden life attribute tendency that he hadn’t fully grasped!
However!
The other hadn’t even physically intervened yet, but just by observing, he already sensed and provided perfectly adaptive suggestions!
Is this the true value of a legend in the human world!
Caleb’s heart surged with endless reverence once more.
“Finally,” Ian slightly frowned, pondering deeper issues, “the entire engraving process seemed entirely reliant on your experience and magic power to protect the child’s fragile life origin from the impact of magic rune forces. Although you did very well, is there possibly a… more universal, safer ‘buffer’ or ‘harmonizing’ mechanism? For instance, before engraving specific intensity runes, first injecting a gentle neutralizing energy as a base? It might further reduce ritual risks, especially for children with slightly weaker talents.”
This question directly touched one of the core difficulties of Caleb’s craft! He had researched it for decades without being able to resolve it perfectly, only compensating by continuously enhancing his control skill!
Caleb seemed as if struck by lightning, standing rigidly in place, his mind frantically deducing the possibilities of Ian’s proposed “neutralizing energy base”. Numerous previously failed cases, difficult-to-grasp critical points, under this new idea’s impact, began to show the dawn of a solution!
Ian’s guidance continued.
“Your rune is composed of three parts: starter ring, conduit line, and convergence point,” Ian analyzed, “This is the correct structure, but in terms of detail, there are three areas for optimization.”
The other party didn’t blink, afraid to miss a single word.
“First, the closure of the starter ring,” Ian pointed to the light trace, “The ring you engraved has a tiny gap, which is for ‘pressure relief’ to prevent magic power overload backlash on the child, right?”
“Yes!” The master was amazed, “This is an ancestral method, every ring leaves a slight gap to protect the child’s life.”
“The idea is right, but the method is wrong,” Ian shook his head, “While the gap can relieve pressure, it also causes magic power to spill over, leading to inefficiency, and there is a risk of alteration as the wound heals.”
“Then… what should be done?”
“Use the ‘Spiral Gradual Convergence Method’,” Ian turned his finger, the light trace’s starter ring started spirally contracting, finally closing at one point, “The ring body gradually narrows, the magic power naturally directs towards the conduit line, with no need for a gap. If indeed overloaded, the magic power will ‘burst open’ from the narrowest part of the spiral, achieving the same pressure relief effect, but with excellent sealing under normal circumstances.”
This is a conclusion derived by combining Muggle science, which most Wizards don’t delve into.
The other party inhaled sharply, a brilliant light flashing in his eyes. He had lived most of his life, never imagining that ‘closure’ and ‘pressure relief’ could be so cleverly combined.
“Second, the curvature of the conduit line,” Ian continued, “You use a smooth curve, which can reduce magic power friction, which is good. But the child’s bones are delicate, magic power flow speed is fast, smooth curves ironically allow magic to ‘overshoot’, forming ‘vortices’ before the convergence point, wasting energy.”
“Then, what should be used?”
“Staircase gradual decline,” Ian waved his hand, the conduit line turned into tiny segments like small steps, “Each segment acts like a small dam, slowing down magic flow speed, letting it stably reach the convergence point, thereby enhancing convergence efficiency by at least thirty percent.”
The Alchemy Master’s hands trembled, seemingly seeing the perfect runes he would engrave in the future.
“Thirdly, and most importantly, the method of magic power guidance,” Ian’s tone became serious, “You use the ‘Glowing Blue Flame’ for engraving, this flame is highly compressed ‘Ancestral Spirit Magic Power’, very powerful. But during engraving, you ‘push’ the magic into the bone, right?”
The Alchemy Master nodded, “Yes, one must use willpower to ‘press it in’, otherwise the rune isn’t stable.”
“This is the greatest drawback!” Ian asserted, “‘Pushing’ is violent, it damages bone cells, causing slow healing, potentially affecting bone development. The superior method is to ‘lead’.”
