Chapter 2923: Chapter 1142: The Chessboard and Its Pieces
Outside the school.
In the night sky.
The giant vortex above the Silent Forest is still slowly "contracting and expanding," like a giant beast taking deep breaths. However, as time passes, each time it "expands," streams of black substance, like willow catkins, pour out from the vortex and drift down.
These black substances land on the tree canopies, instantly turning the green trees black; they fall on magical creatures, making their eyes blood-red in a blink; when they touch the soil, they act like corrosive acid, emitting unpleasant fumes. The magical creatures with blood-red eyes sniff this scent, gnashing their teeth and roaring ferociously. Their muscles ripple, and some even start devouring each other, transforming in a short time into dozens of beasts with astonishing auras.
Professor Emma floats in mid-air, staring unwaveringly at the vortex, ignoring the drifting black substances and the chaos within the Silent Forest below.
"—Because on this chessboard, every piece has its position and responsibility."
In the San You Bookstore, Mr.Wu rarely leaves his recliner. He stands at the window, hands behind his back, looking at the dark street outside and the terrifying roars from the distant Silent Forest, commenting with interest: "If a ’rook’ wastes attention in a chess game, it only gives the opposing ’king’ an opportunity... Besides, neither of them are true legends yet; in their first encounter, they are inevitably cautious and choose relatively conservative combat strategies."
The Yellow Flowered Cat is not interested in the noise outside the bookstore.
It crouches at the window ledge, looking somewhat melancholy at Mr.Wu’s slightly transparent figure. After a while, it can’t help but flick its tail, complaining: "—Watching children fight is pointless! Instead of wasting time, why not write a few more cultivation insights and at least leave me some inheritance?"
Mr.Wu glances at it, speechless: "I’m just going out for a look, not dead. It’s nowhere near the time to leave an inheritance!"
"Neither seen nor heard from, isn’t that considered dead?" The Yellow Flowered Cat perks up its ears, its amber eyes wide open, indignantly: "—According to ’The Code’, if someone is missing for four hundred years, you can apply to Danghag for a declaration of death! Didn’t you consider this scenario when writing ’The Code’?"
Mr.Wu remains silent.
The Yellow Flowered Cat is startled.
"No way! You really didn’t consider this scenario?" It can’t help but utter in amazement, seeming a bit flustered by inadvertently exposing a possibility.
In contrast, Mr.Wu looks quite composed.
He chuckles slightly: "—When I wrote ’The Code’, I didn’t expect to reach this point so soon... Just like when opening the school gates this morning, the school didn’t expect to have to flee by nightfall."
Boom!
Rumble!
Outside the window, the cobblestone path on the pedestrian street flows like water. The shops on both sides ripple in waves, and in the distance, the corridors connecting every corner of the school slither like long snakes. Inside the walls, the castles and buildings disappear one after another in silence.
The school’s "fleeing," of course, is a personification.
There’s a Protect Legal Formation to maintain, sensitive labs afraid of shocks, and delicate university students like little quails; when the First University flees, it naturally cannot shake off rocks and beasts like an awakening hill giant, pulling its legs from the soil and leaving amidst tremors, stomping a path full of cracks.
The First University’s "fleeing" is more like chess pieces shifting—using formation enhancements and earth vein power to move the campus exposed to risks to relatively safer areas.
In this process, the Big Wizards staying at the school must focus on maintaining key nodes of the Protect Legal Formation; sometimes, they even need to use their true forms to replace nodes, ensuring the array remains stable during the school’s "relocation."
Therefore, the school’s maneuvering forces are somewhat insufficient.
Bang!
Bang bang!
An edge Type One model climbs up from the ground, raises its blade-like forearms, barely blocking the sharp talons descending from the sky. The clash between limbs creates a clear metal collision sound, the sparks exceptionally noticeable in the dim night.
Caw! Caw caw!
Accompanied by a hoarse and sharp scream, the talons retract, and a black raven of colossal size spreads its wings, up to over ten meters wide, soaring skyward, bringing forth a few black tornadoes. It spirals, lowering its head, scrutinizing the crouched edge Type One below with its blood-red eyes, carefully considering its next attack direction.
"—Too dirty! No wonder the ’school’ ran without notice!"
A black-robed male witch mutilates a monster that transformed from an ogre, then retracts his copper coin magic sword, seeing the blotchy stains from dirt on the blade, he curses in pain: "How did Montelio create such a filthy mess! Plastic energy magic is almost ineffective..."
"A grotesque mix carrying demonic and starry sky aura, literally a walking mound of feces!"
Another witch already has a veil covering her face, holding chains woven from talisman papers, watching the circling raven not far away, she murmurs complainingly: "Even if you kill these dirty things, the muck remains here... the school’s choice to flee is absolutely correct."
"Why don’t you use the Binding Spell?" The male witch curiously observes the witch wielding the talisman chain: "The Binding Spell only consumes some magic power... using talisman chains against them is too costly!"
"Spending a little is better than dirtying my Law book!" The witch firmly rejects: "If my Law book gets involved with these filthy things, I would absolutely burn it!"
The male witch’s face darkens as he glances at his copper coin magic sword, saying no more.
He just flashes away, venting his anger on another hyena-like monster.
Inhale—Exhale—
Inhale—
Another stream of black substance sprays from the vortex.
Floating above the Silent Forest, the Big Wizards unveil their means, cautiously gathering these dirty substances. Above them, standing directly in front of the vortex, Professor Emma suddenly squints her eyes.
After a long "contraction and expansion," the vortex finally stabilizes.
The deep space-time tunnel silently opens, and a giant hand reaches out from the passage, gripping the vortex edge as if a water ghost climbing out of a well, its grayish-white skin emanates a chilling and distorted aura.
