Chapter 1073: Chapter 775: Black-Robed Man_3
Xiao Jin took a deep breath and forcefully suppressed the surging emotions. He let go of Shen Tang’s hand, stretched his neck, the joints crackled, and his face returned to that casual, indifferent expression, "Alright, let’s get to work."
He exchanged a glance with Lu Xiao, and both of them rushed out simultaneously.
Xiao Jin transformed into the Black Panther, his whole body entwined with golden Thunder, charging directly into the guards’ camp from the left side. A bolt of lightning spewed from his mouth, exploding fiercely, blasting a group of guards along with their equipment into the air.
Lu Xiao approached from the right, the Wind Blade slicing silently through the air, cutting through another team’s Weapons.
The two worked in perfect synchronization, one attacking head-on, the other flanking in surprise, drawing all the guards on the lab’s perimeter away. Alarms blared incessantly, and more and more guards surged out of the building, chasing the two.
Shen Tang and Shen Li seized the opportunity to flash out from the shadows, skimming along the wall towards the lab’s side door.
Most of the side door’s guards had already been dispatched; the remaining two didn’t have time to react before being silently reduced to ashes by Shen Li’s Fox Fire.
Shen Tang’s spiritual power probed the sensor at the door; in seconds, the lock clicked open.
They slipped inside.
The interior of the lab was even larger than it appeared from the outside. The corridor was wide enough for two cars to run side by side, and the ceiling was as high as a cathedral’s, with transparent glass pods and silver-white metal equipment everywhere. The light was a cold white, rendering faces completely bloodless.
The smell of disinfectant was more intense, mixed with a certain sweet, sickening odor.
Shen Tang didn’t spare another glance, her spiritual power probing outward all the way to find the entrance to the underground.
The underground prison was on level minus three. The two of them descended the emergency passage, the guards fewer on each subsequent level—because most had been diverted by those two above.
At the end of the corridor on level minus three was a row of solitary cells.
Shen Tang’s spiritual power swept across quickly, locking onto the very last cell.
The cell door was a specially made metal door, covered in prohibition runes. Shen Li raised her hand, Fox Fire attached to the lock, scorching for over ten seconds and causing the runes to fracture.
The door opened.
The cell was very dark, with only a dim light on the ceiling, its brightness so weak it seemed ready to flicker out anytime.
A person curled up in the corner.
It was a female, her hands and feet bound by specially made chains, flowing with dark red energy patterns suppressing the superpower within her. She was terribly thin, the once luxurious clothes hanging loosely on her as if draped over a skeleton.
Her exposed arms were riddled with marks from needle punctures, densely clustered, some scabbed over and others still fresh, bruises extending from wrist to elbow. Her hair was disheveled, her face bloodless, cheekbones protruding sharply, eyes deeply sunken.
Shen Tang barely recognized Wu Wei.
The proud and imposing heiress from Sky City now emaciated like a sheet of paper, trembling in the corner.
Upon hearing the door, Wu Wei’s body jolted, squeezing herself deeper into the corner, her voice hoarse and almost inaudible, "Don’t, don’t come... I have no blood left... none today..."
Shen Tang’s heart sank.
She squatted down, leveling her gaze with Wu Wei, her voice softened, "Wu Wei, it’s me."
Wu Wei froze for a long moment before slowly raising her head. Her gaze was scattered, her pupils struggled to focus, as if emerging from a long, harrowing nightmare.
Upon seeing the familiar face, her pupils suddenly contracted.
"You—!" Her voice changed tone, filled with terror and disbelief, "Why are you here? What do you want?"
She remembered Shen Tang. Remembered how she had dealt with her, how she had wanted her dead. She believed Shen Tang had come for vengeance, her body shaking more violently as she desperately retreated, the chains clinking.
"Are you here to kill me? Is that it..." Wu Wei’s voice trembled, tinged with a sobbing tone, "If you’re going to kill, just kill, stop torturing me..."
Shen Tang didn’t become angry, only pulled out a Token from her bosom, presenting it to her.
It was Mo Yan’s Token.
Upon recognizing the Token, Wu Wei’s entire body froze. She stared wide-eyed at it, her lips quivering, unable to speak for a long time.
"Your father sent us to rescue you," Shen Tang said.
Wu Wei stared blankly at her, her eye sockets turning red little by little.
She opened her mouth, a suppressed, broken sob escaping from her throat. Tears flowed from those sunken eyes, gliding over her cheekbones, dripping onto cracked lips.
"Why... why are you rescuing me..." Her voice was sporadic and tearful, "I treated you so poorly before... I even wanted to kill you..."
Shen Tang didn’t answer the question.
"Believe it or not, you have no choice now." She stood up, her tone flat, "Come with us."
Wu Wei closed her eyes, tears flowing more fiercely.
She knew Shen Tang was right. No matter who came, whether they were there to save her or kill her, she had only this one path. Staying here, she would eventually be drained of blood and die on the lab table. Going with them, there was at least a glimmer of life.
She took a deep breath, opened her eyes, her voice hoarse yet clear, "I trust you."
Wu Wei lowered her head, tears dripping onto the ground, "Thank you... I was wrong before, it’s my fault..."
Shen Tang didn’t wish to accept this gratitude. When death approaches, people speak kindly, but the fact that Wu Wei nearly killed her still stands, as does the harm she and her father caused Lu Xiao and her. She didn’t want forgiveness, nor was it necessary.
"Don’t say more." She interrupted Wu Wei, "Let’s rescue the person first."
Shen Li stepped forward, Fox Fire gathering in her palm. The prohibition runes on the chains were burned by the flames, emitting a piercing sizzling sound. Those runes warped and fractured, breaking chain by chain.
Once all the chains fell away, Shen Tang flipped her palm, storing Wu Wei in the Space.
