Chapter 43: Puppies! This Must Be What Heaven Looks Like!!

The professors were clearly upset by Emily’s rampage. Several Imperial Elite Guides stood behind them, ready to take her into custody.

One of the Guides stepped forward and fired a tranquilizer dart at the giant cat. Emily hissed as it struck her, her ears flattening. She staggered for a moment before collapsing to the ground.

HISSSSSS!!!

Unfortunately, the relief didn’t last long.

Emily continued thrashing and growling despite the tranquilizer effect. Flames burst from her body as she fired several fireballs at the approaching Elite Guides.

"Watch out!" one of them shouted.

The Guides scattered to avoid the incoming attacks. Even with the tranquilizer taking effect, Emily was still dangerous enough to injure someone if they approached carelessly.

"Get back to safety."

"Commence the safety net! Restraint her!"

The professors retreated while the Elite Guides tried to contain Emily without provoking another attack.

A blue security sphere hovered over the giant cat and released a large restraint net that spread through the air before dropping over Emily’s body.

The net restricted Emily’s movements, but she continued growling and snapping at the Elite Guides. It took several of them to secure her before they could take her away.

Emily was an C-Rank Sentinel. If it was this hard to subdue an C-Rank, how would it be to neutralize an S-Rank Sentinel like Ephraim if he were turned into a Mindless back then? It could be a national crisis.

Just imagining that possibility made Lydia shudder.

Sure, her fiancé could be a pain in the neck. But Lydia never want to let Ephraim suffer. Being Sentinel sure was rough.

Imagining Ephraim losing control of himself and becoming a threat to everyone around him, was an entirely different matter.

I will never let that happen to Ephraim. Ever.

Ephraim and the professors inspected the damage. Security robots scanned the broken walls and flooring, recording everything on their holographic displays, while the security spheres checked the area for further damage and injured students.

Fortunately, the situation was finally under control.

Well, almost.

Several Puppers had hurried over to treat Hugo, who was still recovering from his injuries.

As Otherworlders who lived among humans, Puppers specialized in healing and caring for wounded people.

Their medical knowledge and cheerful personalities had made them popular among humans who needed treatment.

Well, they are more like humanoid, talking medic dogs. How cute and adorable.

One of the largest Puppers, a Golden Retriever with fluffy golden fur, stepped forward and examined Hugo.

"B-Rank Sentinel confirmed! Hugo Bjorn, grade B wounds. Administering shots and cuddles, woof!"

His floppy ears bounced as he studied the information displayed on a small holographic screen.

Shots and cuddles?

Before Lydia could wonder what that meant, a Beagle Pupper tilted his head thoughtfully.

His ears drooped as he examined Hugo. Despite his serious expression, his wagging tail and adorable face made him look cute.

"Do we need to lick lick him? How about huggies?" A beagle asked seriously. He wagged his tail.

A big white samoyed "No lick lick or huggies is allowed. Not unless patient is in A grade inju—"

Hugo slapped his own cheek hard enough to make it red and swollen.

"Go on. Please and thank you."

"Emergency!!" A Husky howled. "Unit C! Now!"

Three Puppers rushed toward Hugo. A Pomeranian, a Golden Retriever, and a fluffy Samoyed swarmed Hugo as they gave him hugs and licks excitedly.

"He’s right where he wants to be." Lydia shook her head at the sight.

Hugo isn’t any better than Kathy. Why do I have so many friends with questionable behavior?

"This must be what heaven looks like. Perhaps I should thank Lady Fielyn for allowing me to get treated by Puppers."

There really was no saving him.

Meanwhile, several professors approached Lydia and Rishe to ask what had happened and why Rishe had used Resonance on university grounds.

"Using Resonance at university grounds is highly prohibited, Lady Arestionne." Professor Greg warned Rishe with a stern expression.

Rishe nodded and listened quietly to the professor’s warning before explaining what had happened.

"But I can’t bear to let my friends to be exposed to danger, Professor." She smiled sadly as she spoke, looking genuinely concerned about the situation.

Several of the older professors immediately coughed awkwardly.

Lydia stared at Rishe in admiration.

This girl sure know how to use her words.

Although Rishe received a formal warning for using Resonance on university grounds, the professors couldn’t bring themselves to reprimand her further.

After all, she had only used her power to protect her friends from Emily’s attacks. Eventually, the professors decided to let it slide.

I should take notes from Rishe.

Lydia was impressed. Rishe could defend herself without arguing with authority, all while keeping her sweet smile.

"Must be wonderful to smile your way out of trouble, Lady Arestionne. Some of us have to follow the rules."

"Some exceptions are needed when the conditions require it, Crown Prince."

Despite their passive aggressive behavior,

Rishe stepped back when Ephraim approached Lydia, to check on her injury.

"Savior complex."

The remark was quiet, but not quiet enough.

Ephraim paused briefly before turning his head toward Rishe, "I can hear you just fine, Lady Arestionne." Ephraim smiled politely. That was the kind of smile that has the warning hidden beneath it.

"I’m glad you were unharmed, Lydia."

Despite everything that had happened, he seemed genuinely relieved to find her safe.

Rishe, however, was not impressed by him.

The two Sentinels continued glaring daggers at each other, their polite expressions doing very little to conceal their mutual hostility.

Lydia looked from one to the other.

One was her fiancé, who could be insufferably smug even when he was being considerate.

The other was her friend, who had just defended her against an berserked Sentinel and smiled her way out of a reprimand.

Both were powerful and stubborn. And judging by the way they were looking at each other, neither seemed particularly interested in getting along.

Why am I surrounded by idiots?
