"I refuse!"

Sure enough, just as Ruan Chanchan had expected when the elders heard her request, they all refused. The one who was the most persistent was Elder Lin. When she heard that Ruan Chanchan wanted not only sixty per cent of the earnings but also wanted her share of meat in exchange for setting up the stall in the market, they were simply unwilling. Why did they go through all the song and dance to stop the supply of Ruan Chanchan’s meat? If they returned the supply, what was the point of stopping her in the first place?

Elder Lin was not willing to let that happen.

Chief Xie looked at the elders who were adamant on refusing the suggestion that she had given to them and calmly sighed. She had already expected it to happen and was not surprised when she saw them act all defensive. She suppressed the irritation in her heart. "Since that is the case, then I will leave the matter of stall setup to you all; I believe that you will do a rather fantastic job as the elders of the tribe!"

Chief Xie was getting more and more annoyed. She had been trying to finalise the stall’s arrangement but the elders kept refusing. Now that Ruan Chanchan had come up with a unique plan, they were not willing to let Ruan Chanchan take over. Since that was the case, they might as well deal with the arrangements!

"Ah Xie, you cannot do such a thing." When Elder Qian heard that Chief Xie wanted to pull her hands away from the matter, she was stunned and worried. They needed Chief Xie to make the decision for them or else they were worried that Ruan Chanchan might not listen to them. "I know that Elder Lin rushed into making a decision but you have to admit that Ruan Chanchan is asking for too much. How can she take sixty per cent of the entire earnings? What will be left for the tribe?"

Elder Qian hoped that Ruan Chanchan would take the initiative to set up the stall. Given that the woman was blessed by the beast goddess, that woman must have a very good idea what to serve at the stall. And the blessing of the beast goddess was not something that anyone could copy. But at the same time she was unwilling to give anything in return.

"So basically you want Ruan Chanchan to pour all her hard work and get nothing in return?" Chief Xie asked coldly, causing a few of the thin-faced elders to flush red in shame and embarrassment.

Even Elder Qian felt a bit ashamed but she soon recovered and then said in a low voice, "Ah Xie, you are being too harsh on us. I mean, Ruan Chanchan is also a member of the tribe, is it wrong to help the tribe?"

"Elder Qian," Chief Xie’s eyes narrowed. She did not want to utter any harsh words but it seemed like she had no other choice but to make it clear. "I am not being rude but I am afraid that I cannot say such a shameless thing to Ruan Chanchan. She has already done enough by bringing in an alliance. I cannot ask her to ask for a blessing from the tribe by bleeding for us and then give nothing in return!"

Elder Lin could not listen to Chief Xie’s response anymore. She raised her hand and punched the ground in front of her. She said angrily, "what is this? Ruan Chanchan is not some sort of messiah. As someone who was blessed by the beast goddess, it is her responsibility to help the tribe. What is wrong with us asking her to fulfil her responsibility?" Letting that woman’s daughter rise to the top? Never. She would never allow it.

Chief Xie glanced at Elder Lin. she did not waste anymore of her words with the elders and slowly got to her feet. She said slowly, "I have stated my stance. There is no way I will allow such a thing to happen and no one can ask me to do it. If you think that Ruan Chanchan will agree to your request, then you can go forth with it, but I will not help you with it."

After she finished speaking, she walked out of the cave without taking another look at the elders of the tribe.

When Elder Lin watched her leave, she was furious. In her eyes this was nothing less than a rebellion. She turned to look at the rest of the elders and said angrily, "Did you see that? Just because she is supporting that woman, Chief Xie no longer takes us seriously. She just announced her decision and did not even ask us whether we agreed or not. Then why bother even asking when she had already made the decision!"

"I say just pick someone and leave the matter alone." Elder Lin was not going to agree to Ruan Chanchan’s unreasonable demands.

"It is not as easy as you think." Seeing that Elder Lin was getting more and more furious, Elder Qian sighed heavily. "Chief Xie came to see us, which means that this matter must have already spread in the tribe. If we refuse Ruan Chanchan and choose someone who is not up to the mark, there is a good chance that the people of the tribe would blame us; we have to be careful now."

Earlier they could shrik responsibility but now? What were they supposed to do?

With the chief siding with Ruan Chanchan and Ruan Chanchan coming up with a unique idea, she was worried that the tribe members would be angered.
