It wasn’t that Mother Chen was being heartless. But she didn’t want Yu Dong or anyone else to feel that they were in the wrong and feel guilty. They did what could be done and there was no need for them to feel troubled by what happened in the Black Pot Village.

Since they wanted to get their hands on the grains brought by those scrooges, then they might as well suffer the consequences.

“Mother is right,” Chen Mi was feeling a bit aggrieved when he heard that the entire village was burned but after listening to the words of his mother, he realized that there was nothing they could do.

The village was buried in a storm of fire, it wasn’t as if they would put their life on the line and rescue those in the Black Pot Village. Not to mention, their relationship with that village was not that deep to begin with.

Shen Li sighed and then picked up a cup of water and drank it swiftly. Even though he knew that they were not at fault, the thought of an entire village being burned left a bad taste in his mouth.

“I am afraid that those who survive would not leave, Second Aunt alone,” remarked Ye Liu with an uncomfortable expression.

After all, Yu Linyun was the one who brought those people to the village. Since those people were gone, the widowers and orphans would come to look for Yu Linyun sooner or later.

And when that happens, they might find trouble for them as well.

His words brought another wave of worry for the rest of the family, seeing that the mers were scrunching up their brows, Yu Dong sighed and said, “There is no need for you to worry about such a thing, if they do come looking for trouble, we will just ignore them. It wasn’t us who asked them to let those people in their village.”

Yu Dong was not going to give any face to the villagers of Black Pot if they were to cause trouble for her family.

“Let’s cross that bridge when it’s time,” Grandma Yu waved her hand with a yawn. Though she was also worried about her daughter, she had to admit what the fault lay with her daughter. How many times did Yu Dong tell her to not act foolish but that girl was as stubborn as a bull? Now that something like this had happened, who could blame them?

“Go and sleep,” Yu Dong said to the rest of the family including Xiao Hua. “There is no need to go back to the house tonight, just sleep in the guest room. It was already so late, there was no point in going back now.”

Xiao Hua nodded and went to the guest room. He was indeed tired, after all, it was already two in the night and they hadn’t slept a wink.

While the Yu family was preparing to sleep, Village Head Gu was smoking in her house, she looked at her husband who was crying as if the world was falling apart and rubbed her head.

“Alright, how long are you going to cry? We will go to the village tomorrow and look for in-laws’,” though she said that Village Head Gu knew that they would only be picking up corpses.

The two sisters went along with them.

Village Head Gu slapped the pipe that she was holding on the armrest of the chair and snapped, “What do you want me to do!? I told your family that those people were not good but they didn’t listen. Old Master Gu stopped crying, however, he continued sobbing silently. Now that the people were gone, who cared what they did wrong? The only thing that mattered was that they were gone.

Seeing him cry, Village Head Gu frowned. She looked at the lightening sky and sighed. It didn’t seem like she was going to get any sleep tonight but then again, with what happened, Village Head Gu knew that no one would get any sleep.
