Chapter 2616: Thinking Too Much.

After thanking Legion profusely, the god of knowledge continued with pride, “After doing some investigations, I realized that not only had the pathway of creation and the pathway of destruction disappeared, but we shouldn’t have a god of seers. So I knew that someone had been changing the past without my notice, and I began working on a way to deal with it.”

These words made the god of history turn to Legion and ask in surprise, “You know about the pathway of creation and the pathway of destruction? How did you know? Are you working with the god of knowledge? Are you betraying me?”

Legion replied, “As the god of knowledge said, you’re overthinking things. I have my methods of acquiring information, but I didn’t tell the god of knowledge about the pathway of creation and the pathway of destruction because I was working to betray you.”

“It was just a matter of business between the god of knowledge, and I just like my presence here is a result of a transaction between the two of us. There is no betrayal going on, and I support neither of you.”

They might have supported the god of history or the god of seers in their fight against the god of knowledge, but once they found out that the god of history and the god of seers are one, what they wanted was for the god of history and the god of knowledge to kill each other.

They didn’t say this, but the god of history could guess their thought. But the god of history didn’t bother with them anymore.

The god of history turned to the god of knowledge and said, “Fine. You win. But before I lose, can you tell me what your endgame is?”

The god of knowledge asked in confusion, “What do you mean by endgame? Haven’t I already told you what this is all about?”

The god of history frowned and said, “Cut the crap. I don’t think that you’re willing to die for some superior product of fusion. So don’t treat me like a fool and tell me how you will come out on top at the end of the day.”

The god of knowledge laughed as he said, “You’re so suspicious and paranoid.”

After laughing for a while, he said, “You might be right that I still have hidden agendas, or you might be wrong. I can’t say for sure. All I can say is that there is no need for you to know now. You will find out all you need to know at the end of the day.”

His reply made the god of history frown even harder. But this only made the god of knowledge begin laughing again.

As he laughed, he said to the god of history, “What did you expect to say? That you’re right that I have another endgame? Even if you’re right, I won’t tell you because I’m smart. I won’t assume victory until victory has been accomplished. So, if I had another goal, I won’t tell you until I have succeeded completely.”

The god of history sighed and said, “Then I can only kill you and hope for the best.”

The god of knowledge sneered and said with confidence, “Then give it your best. If this is your best, then you won’t be able to kill me so easily.”

The god of history didn’t speak with words anymore. Instead of talking, he spoke with his actions. He had truly made up his mind to kill the god of knowledge.

But he hadn’t really given up on escaping. He was only pretending to fight to the death. The truth of the matter was that he was secretly activating his ultimate move.

His deceit lay in the fact that instead of activating the River of History himself, he first activated the Past Self divine ability. This caused the ephemeral shadow that had always been attached to his body.

The ephemeral shadow had always been a useless phantom. But once the Past Self divine ability was activated, it solidified and gained power. The god of history then let the solidified shadow use its power to activate the River of History and send the information about the present to the past.

The difference between personally activating the River of History and letting his past self activate it is that the River of History will be activated in the past before he came to ambush the god of knowledge.

This move will achieve the same thing that he wants to achieve, which is to avoid this hopeless situation, but it will be more secretive and more difficult to copy by the god of knowledge.

This move is so secretive that the god of knowledge might not even notice what he was doing and try to copy him. After all, it was occurring in the past, not the present.

Even if the god of knowledge has learned the Past Self divine ability from anywhere and is able to notice his secret move, the god of knowledge shouldn’t be able to copy the River of History because it was activated in the past.

Unfortunately for him, this didn’t work. The god of knowledge didn’t know what he was trying to do and couldn’t copy the River of History this way. But this didn’t stop the god of knowledge from interfering and stopping him.

The god of knowledge noticed that he had activated his past self, so the god of knowledge used the Setting Rules divine ability of nobles and decreed, “The use of the Past Self divine ability is prohibited until I die.”

Then he smiled at the god of history and said, “If you want to escape to the past, you must kill me first.”

This series of events finally made the god of history snap. He roared in anger and rushed at the god of knowledge as he shouted, “I will kill you.”

This time, he was truly angry. Unfortunately for him, anger means nothing when there are no means or power to change the situation. This is why the god of knowledge kept laughing as he was being strangled.
