Chapter 2486: Not So Free.

The first two times that they received the divine flesh of killing was when they were still lamp bearers. Back then, they had only received a rank 1 and a rank 2 divine flesh.

That was less than five years ago, but a lot has happened since then. They’ve gone from receiving rank 1 divine flesh of killing to receiving rank 9 Divine flesh of killing for free.

This made Legion-1 say, “If only Captain Sheckel could see us now. She would be so proud.”

Legion-2 nodded and said in agreement, “Yeah. She truly thought we had a lot of potential. But I doubt she thought we were capable of this much.*

Legion-3 chuckled and said, “If she knew we were capable of becoming angels of killing, she would have killed us back then.”

All of them chuckled at that.

What Legion-3 said was the truth. Sheckel was a stickler for the rules, so there was no way she would have been comfortable with them killing 10 million people in order to become angels of killing.

So there is no way Captain Sheckel would be proud of their current achievements. The only reason she allowed them to become killers was because she needed the firepower and she didn’t think they would make it past rank 3.

To be honest, the divine flesh they received wasn’t entirely free. They had received all the divine flesh in exchange for work that they had to do.

Back when they were lamp bearers, they were given the divine flesh for free because they would be risking their lives and giving up their time and energy to protect law and order.

They had a similar arrangement with the demigod telepaths who gave them the rank 9 divine flesh. They had to help the demigod telepaths beat back the first angel of telepathy in exchange for the divine flesh.

So the divine flesh wasn’t exactly free. But it feels free to Legion because in both cases, they cheated the people that gave them the divine flesh.

As they mused about this, they began to suspect that the feeling of cheating people might be the true source of their happiness because cheating people made them feel very good.

While Legion-10 was thinking about this, their slaves had finished killing 10 million people. This caused their excitement to surge.

10 million people was the minimum requirement for the number of people that demigods of killing needed to kill before they could become angels. Since there was no angel above them, meeting this minimum requirement meant that they could now become angels of killing.

After fulfilling this minimum requirement, Legion wasted no time in assimilating the rank 9 divine flesh in their possession.

Just like with the Mind Palace, the clones didn’t need to combine to create their true form in order to assimilate the divine flesh. The assimilation would be fine as long as it was a clone in charge of the pathway that did it.

In this case, it was Legion-2 who assimilated the rank 9 divine flesh. After he did so, the life energy of all the ten million people they killed was siphoned and fused with their divine flesh.

The 9 pieces of divine flesh of killing in their bodies received the life energy and fused with them. This led to the creation of bodies that became capable of separating from the host and existing alone.

This is how avatars are created for angels of killing. In this case, only 9 avatars were created. So there were 10 bodies, including the main bodies.

All of the avatars had a divine ability. Only the main body didn’t have a divine ability.

This usually leads to the death of the main body and its assimilation by the other avatars. But just like the angel of killing in the forest outside of Reinfield City, they had an innate talent that helped them defeat and subdue their divine flesh.

But their innate talent was stronger than the plant killer’s ability to create seeds and control people through them. Their innate talent was so strong that their avatars didn’t separate from their existence and chose to remain with them.

With this done, they had become complete angels of killing, capable of becoming the god of the pathway. So their next step was to go looking for the authority of the pathway.

This shows just how much stronger their innate talent is than that of the angel of killing in the forest outside Reinfield City.

Their innate talent had made them become complete angels as soon as they became angels. So they can fight any angel of justice sent to hunt them on equal footing and can even begin executing plans to become the god of the pathway.

On the other side, the plant that became an angel of killing in the forest outside of Reinfield City had to play games and set traps for its avatars. It was hunted by a judge, and no one has ever heard about him since then.

Now that they were ready to become gods, Legion-1 and Legion-2 chose to go looking for the Ocean of Blood. They took the divine flesh of the previous god of killing with them as a compass to point them in the right direction.

Legion-3, on the other hand, stayed behind to kill more people and absorb more life energy. He was doing this in order to prepare resources to use their new rank 9 divine ability.

Their new rank 9 divine ability is called Blood Sacrifice. It is a divine ability that can create a powerful attack by sacrificing life energy.

They can sacrifice the life energy within their bodies to create this attack, or they can sacrifice the energy they stole from other people using their rank 8 Life Siphon divine ability.

This option to use the Life Siphon divine ability turns the Blood Sacrifice divine ability from a divine ability that killers use when they are desperate and at a dead end into a deadly weapon capable of growth that they can use without any detriment to themselves.
