Chapter 2417: Lies And Omissions.
They paid some of those sources for the information they wanted. But some legendary telepaths were willing to tell what they wanted to know for free.
After getting information from many sources and analyzing them, they realized that the bartender had spoken some truths. But he had also omitted some critical information and lied about others.
The bartender had been truthful about why no one could control the Mind Palace for so long. He was also truthful about how the virtual flesh came about and why information about the Mind Palace could only be carried by the mind.
He had also spoken the truth about why Gerald died and the importance of the virtual flesh to subduing the Mind Palace. Even the theory of how the virtual flesh could be used to control the Mind Palace was the truth.
From what they gathered, a powerful telepath had indeed paid many legends to buy off their control of other telepaths. So the bartender wasn’t the one that truly wanted Gerald dead.
No one is sure why the powerful telepath brought of so many telepaths, but many people guessed that it had something to do with the god of disaster and the acquisition of the Mind Palace.
The bartender hadn’t told them that he was guessing. But he hadn’t exactly lied to them about it. Legion suspects that he told them this tiny fib to test if they are knowledgeable about the recent events that took place in the mind hunters.
While this little deceit was harmless, the rest of what the bartender told them wasn’t so harmless. In fact, it can be said that things went downhill from there.
The bartender had omitted the truth about how to subdue the virtual flesh and what would happen once it was subdued.
As for what he lied about, it was about how to use the virtual flesh to use some of the powers of the Mind Palace. His lie was that they could use their rank 7 Mind Domination divine ability on the virtual flesh directly.
The truth is that they needed to subdue the virtual flesh first. If they don’t do that first and directly use the Mind Domination divine ability on the virtual flesh, either their mind would get trapped in the virtual flesh or be scattered forever.
This lie is lethal when combined with the fact that he never told them how to subdue the virtual flesh. This means that if they had followed his advice, not only would they have stood no chance of acquiring the Mind Palace, but they would have probably also died.
Be that as it may, they didn’t get angry with the bartender because he had no responsibility to tell them the truth. Just like the food and drink made from memory fragments, they would be foolish to eat it without first ascertaining that it is safe.
The man had given them a pile of shit with some gold nuggets buried in it. They will need to be careful and skillful in order to pick out the gold nuggets in the shit.
And when they have picked out the gold nuggets, they should be thankful to the bartender for his gift no matter how smelly and disgusting it was because the bartender had given it to them for free.
Even if they won’t thank him, they have no right to be angry at him for his smelly gift. Legion only chuckled about it before returning to their quest.
The first thing they did after gathering all the information they wanted was to return to Mind Palace. They went there to see if they could get the virtual flesh from it by themselves.
They went into the Mindscape from the spiritual dimension. Then they appeared beside the grey cube.
They didn’t waste any time lest they give enemies and predators an opportunity to attack them. They grabbed at the grey cube and left immediately.
What they grabbed from the grey cube was a clump of translucent flesh. The flesh was grey and soft like foam. It was also invisible to other beings who weren’t telepaths despite the fact that it could exist in the physical dimensions.
This was the virtual flesh of the god of telepathy. It is the same kind that Gerald gave them after they joined the Mind Hunters.
Legion-7 said, “Now that I’ve thought about it, that name, Mind Hunter, is very fitting. Those legendary telepaths are truly hunting minds. The misconception is that the telepaths that join don’t know that it is their minds that are being hunted.”
After saying so, they discarded the virtual flesh that Gerald gave them. They did this because they were sure now that it had been tampered with by the person who gained control of Gerald.
That person is the bartender. So if they put their minds into the virtual flesh, the virtual flesh will form a connection between their minds and the bartender, which he can use to manipulate or destroy their minds.
So there was something to be gained when the bartender lied to them. They don’t want to be the thing to be gained, so they destroyed the bartender’s link to them.
After they discarded the virtual flesh, it began to disappear once it lost support of their spiritual energy. At the bar in the headquarters of the Mind Hunters, the bartender frowned when he sensed this. Then he chuckled in amusement.
Legion, on the other side, began the first process of subduing the virtual flesh. This was the step that they must take if they want to safely use the virtual flesh to borrow some of the power of the Mind Palace and if they want to subdue the Mind Palace completely with the virtual flesh.
For telepaths, this step involved touching the grey virtual flesh with their rank 1 Mental Probe divine ability and then using a slew of divine abilities to convert the virtual flesh into a part of their existence.
Even that simple explanation of what must be done shows that the process is lengthy and tedious.
