Great Li Martial God
Chapter 465 The Divine Hall Elders
At those words, Li Musheng glanced briefly toward the outside of the residence, then withdrew his gaze, clearly showing no particular concern about the matter.
The Hidden Kill Pavilion assassins hidden in the shadows, seeing that Li Musheng appeared to show no reaction whatsoever, felt considerable unease, but none of them dared say anything further, simply continuing to conceal their presence while keeping careful watch on the movements of the White Tiger Divine Hall's visitors.
Before long, two figures arrived and stood before the residence, one heavyset and one thin, both dressed in white robes embroidered with tiger stripes.
Both appeared to be roughly fifty years of age, their expressions cold and indifferent, showing no trace of emotion throughout. They stood on the main street before the residence's front gate, but showed no intention of entering the residence itself.
"Which of you is the Eighth Prince of Great Li? By the Hall Master's order, you are to come with us at once."
One of the two spoke, his voice like the beating of a drum, echoing over the entire residence.
The voice sounded ordinary enough on the surface, but in the ears of the hidden Hidden Kill Pavilion assassins, it sent their blood and qi surging uncontrollably, the true qi within their bodies stirring restlessly beyond their control.
In an instant, the assassins all changed expression sharply, immediately sealing their hearing and circulating their techniques to suppress the disturbance within their own bodies.
At the same time, following the visitor's call, no response whatsoever came from within the residence, clearly indicating that Li Musheng could not be bothered to pay attention to the lackeys the White Tiger Divine Hall had sent.
At the sight, the heavyset and the thin man from the White Tiger Divine Hall exchanged a glance, then stood in place in silence for a moment.
The two of them looked at the residence before them, but still showed no intention of forcing their way in. At this point, one of them spoke, "Let us call out once more..."
But before he could finish his sentence, his entire body suddenly dropped to its knees with a thunderous crash.
The stone tiles beneath his knees cracked open, the fine fissures spreading rapidly toward the feet of the man standing beside him. At the sight, the previously expressionless face of the second man began to change.
And just as he was about to speak again, his entire body was likewise seized by an uncontrollable force and suddenly forced down to its knees, following the same fate as his companion.
With that, the street outside the residence fell silent once more.
The Hidden Kill Pavilion assassins hidden in the shadows watched all of this unfold in complete silence, only their eyes shifting with unusual expressions as they observed the two men now kneeling before the residence.
As time passed moment by moment, the two visitors from the White Tiger Divine Hall, since kneeling, showed no further movement whatsoever, not even making a single sound.
Lianxing, who had rushed to the scene upon hearing of the White Tiger Divine Hall's arrival, had concealed herself in a hidden corner of the street, and naturally witnessed all of this as well.
At this moment, both she and the assembled assassins of the Hidden Kill Pavilion began to realize, with sudden clarity, that this new Pavilion Master was fundamentally different from the old one.
Since the White Tiger Divine Hall was the true power controlling the Hidden Kill Pavilion from behind the scenes, even past Pavilion Masters had never dared defy the Divine Hall's wishes in the slightest, which had led the Hidden Kill Pavilion's assassins to treat White Tiger Divine Hall members with the same wariness one might show toward venomous snakes or fierce tigers.
But Li Musheng, this newly appointed Pavilion Master, was clearly different. Not only had he refused to let the White Tiger Divine Hall's visitors even through the door, he had not allowed them so much as an extra sentence, forcing them to kneel outside in apology instead.
In an unnoticed corner of the street, a flicker of something rippled across Lianxing's exquisitely beautiful, glacial face. At this point, a voice came from behind her, "It seems this Pavilion Master of ours truly holds the White Tiger Divine Hall in no regard whatsoever. Perhaps before long there will be open conflict between the Hidden Kill Pavilion and the White Tiger Divine Hall."
At those words, Lianxing immediately composed the expression on her face, and simply looked toward the residence where the two White Tiger Divine Hall members knelt, without turning her head, "Do not forget that this new Pavilion Master of ours has received the Demonic Patriarch's own legacy and is a true demon lord. At present, only the White Tiger Divine Hall stands any chance of keeping him in check."
Huan Hu emerged from the shadows and slowly shook his head, "Have you truly never considered why the old Pavilion Master and the Assassination Saint, after meeting this new Pavilion Master only once, would risk offending the White Tiger Divine Hall to immediately pass the position of Pavilion Master to him?"
At those words, Lianxing turned to look at Huan Hu behind her, a cold smile forming on her expressionless face, "I have naturally considered this. It is nothing more than the fisherman profiting while the snipe and clam fight each other. Both you and I, as members of the Hidden Kill Pavilion, have likely become nothing more than pawns to be discarded."
Even so, Huan Hu looked toward the residence where Li Musheng was staying and said, "I keep feeling that things may not be as pessimistic as you believe."
"This new Pavilion Master of ours gives me a feeling I have never experienced before. He is far too confident, so much so that one might even call it arrogance."
"But that arrogance does not seem to stem from a mere overinflated sense of his own worth. It feels, instead, like the bearing of someone who is genuinely unbeatable. I have never encountered someone like this before. Even the old Pavilion Master and the Assassination Saint never gave me this particular feeling."
A flicker of something unusual crossed Lianxing's eyes, but she only gave Huan Hu a long, searching look and fell silent.
At this point, Huan Hu suddenly spoke again, "There is one more thing. Have you not noticed that in the past, no matter how formidable the opponent our Pavilion Master has faced, he has never once lost?"
"But you should understand that what he now faces is the White Tiger Divine Hall."
Lianxing's expression returned to its usual glacial calm. At this, Huan Hu let out a sigh and, gazing off into the distance, said, "The White Tiger Divine Hall may seem, in our eyes, like an insurmountable mountain. But who is to say what it truly looks like in that Pavilion Master's eyes?"
...
At the same time, while the two men from the White Tiger Divine Hall remained kneeling before the gates of Li Musheng's residence, hidden shadows stood in a dark corner some distance away, watching the scene with righteous indignation on their faces.
These figures were wreathed in faint, difficult-to-detect threads of demonic aura, deep within their eyes a hidden gleam of demonic light, their entire bodies radiating a dense and heavy killing intent.
"That is our demonic path's future hope. Damn that White Tiger Divine Hall, worse than pigs and dogs, ganging up on him like this."
One of the shadowy figures in the darkness, watching the five towering illusions of the savage beast White Tiger in the sky, spoke with furious, venomous intensity.
