Chapter 546 -368: Go on the Offensive, Defeat Them One by One
A bullet, also spinning at high speed and trailed by a faint golden flame, streaked with unerring precision toward the center of his forehead!
The hairs on Heart Net’s entire body stood on end!
‘How is this possible?!’
‘How did he find me? How can he use a gun, too? And with such terrifying skill?’
In the blink of an eye, the bullet slammed viciously into his spiritual barrier!
CRACK!
The solid spiritual barrier let out a sharp crack as spiderweb-like fissures spread rapidly across its surface. Though it had barely managed to block the fatal blow, the immense impact still made him stagger. A sweet, coppery taste filled his throat, and he nearly collapsed.
More importantly, the momentary shockwave that rocked his Spiritual Power field caused his lock on Wu Liangchen to break for an instant.
Between masters, victory is decided in a heartbeat. In that single moment of weakness, Wu Liangchen’s figure vanished completely from his senses.
“He’s gone!” Heart Net clutched his throbbing forehead, his voice laced with disbelief and lingering fear.
Just then, Night Owl also arrived. He bent down to pick up the fragmented slug, his expression just as grim.
“His marksmanship is on par with mine. How are we supposed to fight that?”
A powerhouse who could take down the heavily injured ‘Bone Breaker’ in under a minute, and on top of that, he had such absurdly powerful long-range abilities.
‘Does this guy really have no weaknesses?’
Meanwhile, Wu Liangchen, who had already retreated deep underground, let out a long sigh of relief. The battle had been a wake-up call.
‘I can’t keep taking hits like this,’ he thought. ‘I have to find a way to fight back. Otherwise, it’ll be like being slowly sliced to death with a dull knife. I’ll get bogged down in a war of attrition.’
—————–
「Late at night, in a remote alley in the northern part of the city.」
Three night patrolmen in Alliance Government uniforms staggered out of a small tavern, cursing under their breath. They reeked of cheap liquor, and one of them, clearly not having had his fill, let out a loud, boozy belch.
“Damn it! The heat’s been on lately. We even have to sneak around just to get a drink. What a pain in the ass!” The man in the lead was a brutish-looking fellow with a fleshy face. Two buttons on his uniform had popped open, revealing a grimy undershirt beneath.
“No kidding. It’s all that damn Wu Liangchen’s fault! Now it’s not even easy for us to skim a little off the top,” a lanky man chimed in, his eyes filled with venom.
The “skimming” he mentioned, of course, referred to the money they extorted from the small-time vendors at the bottom of the food chain.
“He’s just one fighter. Does he think he can turn the world upside down? Just wait until the big shots from the Dome Group catch him. We’ll see how arrogant he is then!”
The three men walked with their arms slung around each other’s shoulders, completely oblivious. A hundred meters behind them, on the top floor of an abandoned residential building, a pair of cold eyes stared them down through the scope of a modified sniper rifle, locking on.
Wu Liangchen’s presence merged with the surrounding darkness. He didn’t fire immediately, but observed them quietly, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
They were just ordinary men, but Wu Liangchen had no desire to waste a single bullet.
He had overheard their conversation. Their foul language, their contempt for the common people they were supposed to protect, and the casual way they spoke of exploiting them—it all made the killing intent in his eyes burn even brighter.
These men deserved to die.
And so, when the moment was right, Wu Liangchen pulled the trigger without hesitation.
There was a soft, muffled sound, almost too faint to register.
The fleshy-faced patrol captain was about to say something else when his head snapped back as if struck by an invisible sledgehammer. A small, bloody hole appeared on his forehead as a spray of red and white matter erupted from the back of his skull.
He didn’t even have time to scream before his body went rigid and toppled over. The liquor bottle in his hand smashed against the ground with a sharp crack.
The sudden, violent event shocked the other two patrolmen instantly sober.
“Cap… Captain!” the lanky one stammered, his voice trembling as he stared in horror at his companion’s body.
PFFT!
Another soft report. A flower of blood bloomed on the lanky man’s forehead. The look of terror still frozen on his face, his body crumpled to the ground.
The last remaining patrolman was scared out of his mind. Not even daring to look at his dead comrades, he scrambled deeper into the alley, whimpering incoherently as he tried to escape.
Wu Liangchen’s face was impassive as he steadily squeezed the trigger.
The bullet entered precisely through the center of the man’s back and exited his chest. The fleeing figure staggered forward a few steps before collapsing face-first onto the pavement. He twitched a few times, then fell still.
The entire process was smooth, clean, and brutally efficient.
Wu Liangchen packed away his sniper rifle, his figure flashing once before disappearing into the night.
For the next few days, the nights of Zhongjing were no longer solely the hunting ground of the Dome Group.
Wu Liangchen moved like a ghost, haunting the city’s every corner.
His targets were clear: he specifically chose lone Dome Group patrols, small squads on the move, and the Alliance Government night patrol teams who preyed on the common folk.
Sometimes, it was a single, sudden gunshot—a bullet precisely piercing a brow or a heart, killing its target instantly. Other times, a ghostly figure would descend from above, neatly snapping the necks of several men before they could even react, then vanish as quickly as it came.
At a temporary Dome Group checkpoint in the western district, five well-equipped soldiers had just finished their patrol route and were gathered together, smoking and complaining.
Suddenly, a dark figure dropped like a lightning bolt from a ventilation duct above them. In the dim light, an alloy short blade drew arcs of deadly, cold light. Screams were choked off before they could even form, drowned by the sound of tearing flesh and gushing blood. In less than ten seconds, five corpses lay scattered on the ground. The dark figure was long gone, leaving behind only pools of blood that bloomed across the floor like dark calla lilies.
