Chapter 516: Chapter 354: Chaotic Underground World (Part 2)

A moment later, a figure bathed in blood staggered out of the shadows, on the verge of collapse.

It was Jian Yi!

He was in a wretched state.

His once-fitted clothes were soaked through with blood and torn to shreds, revealing a horrifying network of crisscrossing wounds underneath, some so deep the bone was visible.

His face was paper-white and his lips were chapped, but his gray eyes and the longsword clutched in his hand still radiated a terrifying chill.

"Target spotted! Prioritize elimination!" Upon spotting Jian Yi, the commander gave the order to attack without a moment’s hesitation.

A torrent of fire from various energy weapons poured toward Jian Yi. The dense beams crisscrossed in the narrow corridor, weaving a web of death.

However, Jian Yi’s target had never been these common soldiers.

He ignored the concentrated fire aimed at him. Relying on an astonishing intuition for danger and a Body Technique that pushed beyond his limits, he forced his way through the storm of energy blasts. His form was like a phantom as he charged straight for the commander!

The commander, clearly sensing the danger, immediately fell back. Several of his personal guards moved to block Jian Yi, instantly activating their energy shields.

But Jian Yi’s sword was too fast, too unpredictable!

His swordsmanship defied all logic. One moment it was vicious and cunning, the next it was wide and sweeping. It was a completely suicidal style of fighting!

In a single clash, he cut down another three elite soldiers! The sharp edge of his blade even managed to pierce the energy shield’s defense, leaving a deep gash on the commander’s breastplate!

Although this elite unit was well-trained and coordinated, facing a madman like Jian Yi who didn’t play by the rules and feared no death, they were thrown into a panic for a moment, their formation falling into temporary disarray.

But his injuries were truly too severe. Every block and dodge pulled at his wounds, and fresh blood constantly gushed out, dyeing the ground beneath his feet red.

Moreover, the combat proficiency of this elite squad was extremely high. After the initial panic, they quickly regained their footing.

The commander soon discovered Jian Yi’s greatest weakness.

He seemed to rely solely on his hearing and perception to judge attacks. His reaction to silent or disorienting attacks was noticeably half a beat slow.

"Jamming grenades! Concussion grenades! Restrict his senses!" the commander ordered calmly.

Several special munitions were thrown, emitting an ear-piercing noise and strong shockwaves while simultaneously releasing a special field that interfered with perception.

Jian Yi’s movements faltered. A flaw appeared in his fluid swordsmanship, and in an instant, he sustained several new wounds.

The encirclement was shrinking, and Jian Yi was trapped in an unprecedentedly bitter fight. He was like a cornered lone wolf; though ferocious, he was no match for a pack of well-trained hunters.

Alina hid in a corner, her expression complex as she watched the man who refused to back down, fighting to the death in a hopeless situation. Something deep inside her was profoundly stirred.

’Escape?’

’Now is the perfect chance! While everyone’s attention is on him, I might be able to slip away unnoticed.’

’But...’

’All this time, I’ve done nothing but run, nothing but fear.’

’But this man... he’s in a hopeless situation, yet he’s fighting with his life on the line, the very definition of unyielding!’

An unprecedented impulse, mixed with fear, admiration, and an indescribable, complex emotion, surged in her chest.

"Damn it!" Alina cursed under her breath, her gaze suddenly sharpening.

’To hell with it!’

Just as Jian Yi was about to be locked on by several energy weapons at once and cornered, Alina moved!

A powerful surge of Magic erupted from within her as she thrust her hands forward!

"Force Field Barrier!"

A translucent energy barrier, glowing with a faint blue light, materialized in front of Jian Yi, blocking the deadly volley of concentrated fire!

BOOM!

The energy collision let out a tremendous roar. The barrier trembled violently, ripples spreading across its surface, but in the end, it held!

This sudden turn of events stunned everyone for a moment.

"There’s an accomplice?!" The commander’s eyes sharpened.

Seizing the opening, Alina dashed out. She grabbed the arm of the swaying, nearly unconscious Jian Yi. At the same time, she gathered Magic in her other hand and slammed it down toward the feet of the pursuing soldiers!

"Earth Sinking Skill!"

The ground instantly collapsed in a small section. Though the area was not large, it was enough to hinder the pursuers’ advance.

"Let’s go!" Alina grunted, half-carrying the strength-depleted Jian Yi as she turned and bolted down a different side passage.

"Chase them! Don’t let them get away!" the commander roared, leaping over the collapsed ground first and leading his men in hot pursuit.

Alina half-dragged, half-carried Jian Yi, running for her life in the dark corridors. Jian Yi’s body was incredibly heavy and still bleeding profusely, and Alina could feel her own stamina rapidly draining.

After many twists and turns, she finally shook off the pursuers and dove into the abandoned control room she had found earlier. She quickly shut the rickety metal door and jammed it with several steel pipes.

"Hah... hah..." Alina leaned against the cold wall, panting heavily, her clothes soaked with sweat.

She looked at the man she had laid on the floor. Jian Yi had fallen completely unconscious, his face as pale as paper, his breathing so faint it was barely perceptible.

Alina knelt to check on his injuries.

But just as her hand was about to touch Jian Yi’s body, the man who was supposed to be unconscious suddenly tensed up, his remaining instincts making him grab Alina’s hand.

Alina jumped at his sudden reaction, but then her gaze fell upon his gray eyes.

"You... you can’t see?" Alina blurted out.

Although she received no answer, Jian Yi’s subtle reaction confirmed her suspicion. This terrifyingly powerful man was blind!

A wave of complex emotions washed over Alina.

"Relax, I mean you no harm. I’m here to help," Alina said softly, trying to make her voice sound as gentle and non-threatening as possible.

"You’re badly hurt. You need treatment. Relax..."

Whether it was her voice that worked or his body finally reaching its absolute limit, Jian Yi’s tense frame slowly relaxed. He lost consciousness completely, falling into a deep slumber.

Alina sighed in relief and began to carefully remove his tattered clothes, which were soaked in blood and grime.

When she saw Jian Yi’s bare torso, even Alina, who was no stranger to life and death, couldn’t help but gasp.

Crisscrossing wounds, new and old, overlapped each other, leaving almost no patch of intact skin.

The worst were several puncture wounds on his chest and abdomen. The edges were a mangled mess of flesh, and she could even see gleaming white bone and the slight squirm of organ fragments!

Burn marks from energy weapons, cuts from sharp blades, bruises from blunt force... he was like a rag doll that had been repeatedly destroyed and barely pieced back together.

Alina couldn’t imagine what terrifying force of will allowed this man to endure such grievous injuries, flee all this way, and still unleash such astonishing combat strength!

It was beyond the limits of mere physical endurance. He was running on pure Spiritual Power!

She dared not delay any longer and quickly took out disinfectant spray, hemostatic agents, powerful antibiotics, and several military-grade rapid-healing injectors from the first-aid kit she carried.

These were life-saving supplies she had brought with her when she escaped, and now was not the time to be stingy.

Cleaning wounds, stopping the bleeding, applying sutures, injecting medicine... Alina worked for nearly an hour before she managed to treat Jian Yi’s most fatal injuries.

His breathing stabilized slightly and a trace of color returned to his face, but he remained in a deep coma. The intense battle and prolonged blood loss had drained nearly all of his life force.

Alina sat on the floor in exhaustion, looking at the unconscious Jian Yi with a furrowed brow.

Though they had temporarily shaken off their pursuers, she knew this place was far from safe. The people from the Dome Group would not give up so easily, and the Bounty Hunters and gang members who had caught wind of them could show up at any moment.

’I have to leave as soon as possible and find a safer place.’

’But where can I possibly go with someone so heavily injured and unconscious in tow?’
