Chapter 515 - 354: The Chaotic Underground World
Chapter 515: Chapter 354: The Chaotic Underground World
As Wu Liangchen headed for the underground passages, the entire underworld of Zhongjing erupted in a frenzy.
The major gangs all sent out their men, trying to enter the passages to get a piece of the pie.
And that was to say nothing of the professional Bounty Hunters.
But there was only one passage and only one opportunity. On top of that, these gangs were already hostile to each other, so small-scale firefights were breaking out at almost every moment.
The sounds of gunfire, explosions, dying screams, and frenzied curses rose and fell, making the already dark underground space even more foul and chaotic.
In addition, the low-level desperados, their heads turned by the sky-high bounty and dreaming of getting rich overnight, flocked to the area.
Even though this group was the weakest and had the worst equipment, they were more frenzied than anyone, daring to venture deep into the dilapidated tunnels without so much as a map.
This turned out to be a great convenience for the mutated creatures.
They lurked in the shadows, and whenever they encountered an intruder, they would rush out without hesitation, drag it back to their lairs, and enjoy the rare feast.
For a time, pained screams and the CRUNCH of bones being shattered by sharp fangs echoed through the dark passages.
But not everyone was in such a sorry state. One team was advancing rapidly through the underground passages.
This group was well-equipped and moved swiftly.
They were all clad in uniform combat suits and full-body light power armor. The faint red lights glinting from their helmets were all signs of high-end military-grade hardware.
Though there were only twenty to thirty of them moving through the narrow underground passages, they maintained a standard tactical formation.
Their coordination was flawless. They barely needed to speak, using only tactical hand signals to execute complex synchronized maneuvers.
When the occasional foolish mutated creature leaped from the shadows, it would be instantly torn apart by precise and lethal firepower before it could even get within ten meters, unable to let out a proper roar.
This was none other than the Dome Group’s elite unit. Their objective was clear: to hunt down Jian Yi, the one who dared to provoke the corporation’s authority.
As this elite squad delved deeper into the underground passages, farther below, in a relatively dry and concealed abandoned control room, Alina was curled up behind a dusty ventilation duct. She held her breath, seeming to consciously slow even her own heartbeat.
A few days ago, she had risked sneaking into Zhongjing, but she hadn’t just been blundering about like a headless fly.
Using fragmented intelligence she had acquired from her time in the resistance, along with her own Magic abilities, she had found this relatively safe, temporary hiding spot deep within the underground passages.
She had to be careful. Neither her former "comrades" nor the Alliance’s security department would show any mercy to a "traitor" like her.
For the past few days, she had been hiding here like a startled mouse, cautiously gathering information from the outside world and trying to plan her next move.
Suddenly, a faint but continuous vibration, accompanied by a low hum, drifted from the distance.
Alina’s heart clenched, and her eyes snapped open.
This was definitely not the kind of noise a mutated creature would make.
The rhythmic, steady sound of footsteps and the low-frequency hum of equipment... it was more like... a well-trained, professional military unit!
Holding her breath, Alina crawled carefully along the abandoned pipe. When she reached a corner, she stopped and used her Eye of Magic to peer outside.
Through her Magic, the pitch-black passage became perfectly clear, allowing her to see images from hundreds of meters away.
When she saw the squad in dark gray combat suits rapidly approaching, and the familiar emblem on their chests, Alina’s face went deathly pale in an instant. Her heart felt as if it had been seized by an icy hand.
’The Dome Group!’
She knew this behemoth all too well. She knew they were the backers of the resistance in the capital.
She was also aware of the corporation’s ruthless methods and their vengeful style of leaving few survivors.
That was precisely why she was so terrified.
’Did they track me down? Are they here to clean up?’
’But I haven’t been outside at all. I haven’t even dared to connect to the network. How could they know?’
Just then, the squad’s commander—a tall man whose helmet was slightly different from the others’—seemed to spot something. With a sharp wave of his hand, they charged straight toward Alina’s position.
’I’ve been discovered!’
The thought made Alina’s pupils contract.
She knew escape was impossible. Their tactical proficiency was far beyond what she’d imagined. The moment she showed herself, she would be instantly gunned down by concentrated fire.
’Better to fight to the death than to just sit here and wait for it!’
She gritted her teeth, the Magic energy inside her surging wildly as she prepared to unleash her strongest defensive and offensive abilities. Even if it only bought her a few seconds, it was better than being captured without a fight!
In that split second!
ZING—!
An impossibly clear and piercing ring of a sword, one that seemed sharp enough to sever the soul, rang out without warning from a shadowy corner not far behind and to the side of Alina!
A silvery streak, impossibly fast and wrapped in a brutal killing intent, erupted like a bolt of lightning tearing through the darkness!
SQUELCH! SQUELCH!
The two Dome Group soldiers at the very front were sliced in half at the waist by the silver light before they could even react! In the face of this sword gleam, their dark combat suits and light power armor were as fragile as paper. Blood and mangled organs spewed out instantly!
