Chapter 492: Chapter 342: Leaving the City, Assassination (Part 2)
Farther away, another person’s eyes suddenly turned pure white as an invisible wave of Magic spread out, attempting to interfere with Wu Liangchen’s mental perception.
The three were perfectly coordinated and moved with professional precision. They were clearly trained assassins.
However, in the face of this meticulously planned attack, Wu Liangchen didn’t even budge. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ
Just as the dagger reached the back of his chair and the poisoned needle was about to strike, an invisible field of energy abruptly radiated outward from him.
In an instant, the air seemed to freeze solid.
The dagger seemed to have struck an unbreakable barrier. It shattered from the tip inward, piece by piece, before falling to the floor as scrap metal.
The poisoned needle was simultaneously obliterated.
As for the assassin in the distance who had tried to interfere with Wu Liangchen’s perception using Magic, he fared even worse. Blood began to gush from his mouth and nose.
This horrifying turn of events stunned the three assassins. Realizing their mission was a failure, they immediately tried to flee.
Just then, Wu Liangchen curled a finger and gave it a light flick.
Three streaks of silver light shot out and pierced through their bodies, and they collapsed limply to the floor.
"AAAAAH! PEOPLE ARE DEAD!"
Only then did the other passengers in the train car belatedly begin to scream.
Song Ling’Er was also panicking, but Wu Liangchen simply offered her a faint smile.
"It’s nothing, just a few flies. Go back to sleep."
That was easy for him to say, but Song Ling’Er’s heart was still pounding with anxiety.
After all, they had barely left the station before running into something like this. With dead bodies involved, the situation was unlikely to be resolved smoothly.
Just then, the train’s security personnel arrived, having heard the commotion.
They wore matching uniforms and carried riot control weapons, appearing well-trained.
However, when they saw the three corpses on the floor and Wu Liangchen sitting calmly in his seat—his aura contained, yet still radiating a menacing pressure that made their hearts pound—they all instinctively froze, their faces filled with apprehension and hesitation.
Cold sweat beaded on the forehead of the security captain in the lead. He could feel the faint but terrifying aura coming from the young man; this was not someone to be trifled with. He cautiously raised a hand, signaling his team not to make any sudden moves, then asked in the calmest tone he could manage, "Sir, what happened here?"
Wu Liangchen lifted his eyelids, gave the captain a cool glance, and gestured to the bodies on the floor. "A few blind fools looking for trouble. It’s been dealt with. You can take it from here."
His tone was as calm as if he were discussing some trivial matter.
The security captain glanced at the bloody, penetrating wounds on the three corpses, then back at Wu Liangchen’s completely unbothered expression, and a chill went down his spine.
He knew this was no ordinary conflict, but the man clearly didn’t want any more fuss. There was no need to press for details and risk bringing trouble down on his own head.
"Understood, sir. We’ll handle it," the security captain said, immediately signaling his men to drag the bodies away. At the same time, he began to pacify the other frightened passengers and quickly reported the incident to his superiors.
Although the brief, violent conflict was over quickly, it still caused a considerable stir in the train car.
Many passengers now looked at Wu Liangchen with expressions of awe, and even fear.
Meanwhile, in a corner of the car, a woman who had been keeping her head down—wearing large sunglasses and a hat—lifted her head in surprise.
She hadn’t expected to find such an unfathomably powerful master on an ordinary train.
The explosive burst of energy and his precise control over it was enough to startle even someone like her, who was no stranger to turmoil.
Her gaze lingered on Wu Liangchen for a moment, a mix of curiosity and wariness.
The very instant her eyes fell on him, Wu Liangchen sensed it and turned to look her way.
Their eyes met across the dozens of meters and the chaotic crowd that separated them.
The woman’s heart skipped a beat. She hastily lowered her head, pulling the brim of her hat down further and shrinking into herself, as if trying to become invisible.
Wu Liangchen’s eyebrow twitched almost imperceptibly.
He sensed an unusual energy fluctuation from her. It wasn’t the power of Qi and Blood used by martial artists, but the distinct spiritual frequency of Magic—and a fairly strong one at that.
’A practitioner of Magic?’
The thought flashed through Wu Liangchen’s mind. ’But since she clearly has no intention of making contact, I can’t be bothered to meddle.’
He withdrew his gaze and closed his eyes again, as if nothing had happened.
However, it seemed the trouble wasn’t over yet.
Just as the train left the official jurisdiction of Qing Province and entered a more remote and treacherous mountain region, a piercing alarm suddenly blared through the carriages.
"Emergency announcement, emergency announcement! There has been a sudden landslide on the tracks ahead. The train will be making an emergency stop. We ask all passengers to please remain calm, stay in your seats, and await further instructions!"
The voice on the broadcast was tinged with urgency.
The train rapidly decelerated, and a slight vibration ran through the carriage.
"A landslide? How could there be a landslide all of a sudden?"
"What rotten luck! I’m in a hurry!"
A buzz of chatter immediately rose from the passengers, and the train attendants could only do their best to soothe them.
Fortunately, though most passengers were a bit disgruntled and anxious, they treated it as a typical train delay and quickly settled down.
But Wu Liangchen keenly observed that the moment the alarm sounded, the woman in the sunglasses tensed up. Her knuckles turned white from gripping the armrest, her breathing became ragged, and she began to radiate an aura of extreme tension and unease.
A thought suddenly struck Wu Liangchen.
’A landslide? Isn’t that a little too convenient?’
’First an assassination attempt, and now the train is forced to stop because of a "landslide" in the middle of nowhere?’
’And then there’s that mysterious woman’s strange reaction...’
Wu Liangchen frowned. ’Looks like this is going to be an eventful trip.’
The train slowed to a crawl and finally came to a complete stop.
Outside the window, silent mountains stood tall as twilight descended, casting heavy shadows. The earlier chatter of the passengers had died down, replaced by a suffocating silence of anticipation.
Song Ling’Er clutched the hem of her clothes, her face pale. She whispered, "Big Brother Wu, is it really a landslide? Something feels... off."
Wu Liangchen said nothing.
Of course it wasn’t a landslide. He could faintly make out some unusual sounds.
Suddenly, several dull explosions echoed from the distance, followed by scattered gunfire and faint shouting!
Those were definitely not the sounds of a landslide!
The passengers in the car erupted into chaos as panic spread like a plague.
"Gunshots! Those are gunshots!"
"What’s happening? Are we being robbed?"
"Attendants! Security!"
Screams and cries mingled as the once-orderly carriage descended into utter chaos.
Wu Liangchen slowly opened his eyes, his gaze as sharp as a blade as it swept past the window. Though it was dark, he could still see the flicker of firelight and moving figures in the distant mountain forest.
Then, he looked over at the woman.
She was still curled up in her seat with her head down, but the fluctuations of her Magic were now impossible to hide, forming a protective barrier around her.
’Looks like I was right. This is about her.’
"Big Brother Wu, what should we do?" Song Ling’Er asked in a nervous whisper.
She assumed this sudden attack was meant for them.
"Don’t worry, they’re not here for us," Wu Liangchen said in a low, steady voice.
’Not here for us?’
Though Song Ling’Er was confused, seeing Wu Liangchen remain so calm and still, her own frantic heart began to settle.
Just then, a burst of fierce gunfire and agonized screams erupted from outside, followed by the door to the carriage being violently kicked open.
Several fully-armed modified soldiers stormed inside.
The instant they burst in, the woman hiding in the corner suddenly raised a hand.
A powerful psychic shockwave immediately swept through the entire carriage.
Although these modified soldiers were heavily augmented, they were still fundamentally human. Faced with such a powerful shockwave, they were completely defenseless and collapsed to the floor in an instant.
