Chapter 450: Chapter 321: News Spreading, Purchasing Weapons (Part 2)

After all, a man like that could go to any family and enjoy immense wealth. Why would he come to him and suffer?

No matter how much he promised to make up for the lack of benefits later, no one would believe him.

Besides, no one was a fool these days. Feeding on empty promises simply didn’t work anymore.

So when he heard about the incident with the Sun family, Tian Zhong Mountain’s interest was immediately piqued.

First, this Wu Liangchen was extremely powerful; otherwise, he couldn’t have clashed head-on with the Sun family’s Heaven’s Punishment Squad and killed them all.

Second, and most importantly, Wu Liangchen was a Martial Cultivator from out of town. This meant he had no local roots, and being isolated and without support, he would be the easiest to recruit.

Despite this, Tian Zhong Mountain did not rush to act.

There were two reasons for this. First, the Sun family was furious right now. If he tried to secretly recruit Wu Liangchen and was discovered, it could lead to a direct confrontation between their families, which would put him in a difficult position.

Second, Tian Zhong Mountain wanted to see for himself just how powerful Wu Liangchen truly was—powerful enough to declare a fight to the death against the Sun family.

If he had some secret backing, this period of observation would also reveal it.

And if he truly had no backing, yet managed to survive the Sun family’s relentless attempts to corner and kill him all on his own, then Tian Zhong Mountain wouldn’t mind using his own resources to help him out a bit.

Because a man like that was precisely the kind of resource he desperately needed right now.

He knew that even if he helped this Wu Liangchen, it wouldn’t necessarily make the man pledge immediate allegiance. After all, Martial Cultivators who had forged their own path step by step were full of unyielding pride and would not easily bow to anyone. Still, it would be a good start.

If, by some chance, he could recruit him, it would be a massive win.

With this thought, he slowly exhaled, his gaze drifting toward the dark, heavy sky in the distance.

If all else failed, he would first secure Wu Liangchen’s friendship and then play the long game.

And as he stared out the window, lost in thought, the female secretary in the passenger seat secretly observed his every move through the rearview mirror.

When she saw Tian Zhong Mountain’s handsome profile, the secretary’s heart skipped a beat.

But she quickly averted her gaze, not daring to look any longer.

For she knew that Tian Zhong Mountain wasn’t particularly interested in women and especially disliked getting entangled with those around him.

Her own predecessor had been fired the very next day for getting ideas above her station. She had tried to seduce the young master, dreaming of a meteoric rise. Her predecessor figured that even if she couldn’t become the young madam, just being his mistress would have been fine.

To this day, the secretary still remembered how miserably her predecessor had cried during the job handover.

After all, for a girl like her, landing this job was an incredible stroke of luck, the kind that came once in a lifetime.

So she quickly suppressed the fluttering in her heart and began carrying out Tian Zhong Mountain’s instructions.

But neither Tian Zhong Mountain nor his secretary knew that just beneath the overpass they were driving on, a man in sunglasses and a mask was walking by at a brisk pace.

The streets of the Main District were much wider and brighter than those in the Shadowlands.

Skyscrapers shimmering with kaleidoscopic light and displaying all kinds of advertisements made the area look stunningly beautiful.

If the Shadowlands was where the dregs of society eked out a miserable existence, then the Main District was the playground for the upper crust.

But no matter how glamorous something appears on the surface, there is always a darkness lurking beneath.

This place was no exception.

Wu Liangchen emerged from the shadows of the overpass and, as if following a well-trodden path, entered a park.

Though remote, the park was still kept clean and tidy. After walking down a long, paved path, Wu Liangchen arrived in front of a lit coffee shop.

Small, quaintly styled coffee shops like this were scattered throughout the Main District.

These cafes often had a regular clientele, sometimes even forming something akin to a salon.

The coffee shop Wu Liangchen had come to was clearly no exception.

When he walked in, there was no one else besides two tables of customers in the corner, leisurely reading their books.

The people at those two tables didn’t even look up when Wu Liangchen entered.

Wu Liangchen walked straight to the counter, tapped lightly on its surface, and said in a low voice, "A Dark Wasteland, no sugar."

Hearing this, the owner, who had been drowsing curled up behind the counter, immediately looked up, his eyes full of suspicion and inquiry.

"Dark Wasteland? Never heard of it."

"Relax. Luo Qifeng sent me," Wu Liangchen said flatly.

His voice was slightly distorted by the mask, but the owner understood him instantly.

After giving Wu Liangchen a deep look, he stood up and said, "Follow me."

BEEP.

A door at the end of the counter beeped and swung open. Wu Liangchen followed the limping owner into the workroom behind it.

"I don’t know what your relationship with the late Luo Qifeng was, but since you know this place exists, you must know the rules, right?" the owner asked.

"Of course!"

"Good. What do you need?"

"Some rather powerful weapons," Wu Liangchen said immediately.

The owner laughed. "None of the weapons I have are weak. But you have to tell me their specific purpose."

"A high-precision, high-power sniper rifle. High-explosive munitions. And long-range ordnance, like missiles and rockets," Wu Liangchen stated calmly.

The chubby owner’s smile vanished instantly, his gaze turning grim.

"Are you fucking planning a rebellion?"

"Of course not. I just have some enemies that need to be dealt with," Wu Liangchen said.

"Heh, then I really feel sorry for your enemies."

As he spoke, the owner pressed a spot on the coffee grinder. A red light immediately scanned his face.

With a CLICK, the opposite wall slowly opened.

"Come on. I just got some new stock in. I think you’ll like it."

Behind the wall was a massive warehouse filled with all kinds of weapons.

From pistols to rifles, rocket launchers to cluster bombs, it was a veritable arsenal.

Full of pride, the owner reached out, took a futuristic-looking sniper rifle from the wall, and handed it to Wu Liangchen.

"The latest masterpiece from Kler Company, an improved AIE198. It uses a brand-new electromagnetic propulsion valve. Muzzle velocity can reach fifteen thousand meters per second. It can accurately hit a watermelon-sized target from ten kilometers away. Its power is immense. Any Martial Cultivator below the divine realm would be utterly helpless against it."

Wu Liangchen took it, fiddled with it casually a couple of times, then suddenly raised the rifle and aimed it at the owner.

The owner’s expression changed.

Although he was sure the gun wasn’t loaded, the chilling killing intent that erupted from Wu Liangchen in that instant still startled him.

"Nice piece, but it’s a shame you weren’t telling the whole truth," Wu Liangchen said with a smile, tossing the gun back.

"This thing is indeed powerful, but it also has many fatal flaws. So stop treating me like an amateur and bring out the real deal."

Hearing this, the owner’s expression finally turned serious.

He had, in fact, just concealed many of the rifle’s crucial parameters, but an ordinary person would have a hard time noticing.

Only someone with a deep understanding of weaponry would be able to tell.

This proved that the man was indeed an expert.

"My apologies, esteemed customer. That was just an appetizer. Now, please, look over here."

Without any apparent movement from the owner, the gun rack before them suddenly split apart, revealing a hidden compartment behind it.

"This is the best merchandise in the store. In all of Qing Province, besides the Alliance military’s own depots, my collection of weapons is the newest and most complete," the owner said, his face full of pride.

Wu Liangchen didn’t say a word, just examined the weapons carefully.

These weapons were completely different from the flashy, futuristic ones from before. They looked simple and unadorned, but certain details clearly betrayed their extraordinary nature.

"Also from Kler Company, but this is the AIE special model, exclusively supplied to powerful agencies like the Alliance Security Forces. The barrel has a special design that reduces its sound by thirty percent while maintaining muzzle velocity. With a professional suppressor, the sound is reduced by another forty percent. I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s quieter than you farting."

"And the bullets are specially made. For any Martial Cultivator who hasn’t reached the Great Accomplishment of Opening Veins, or any Adept below the fourth rank—if they get hit, while it might not be an instant kill, their combat ability will be severely crippled," the owner explained with a flourish.
