Chapter 448: Chapter 320: A Game of Life and Death (Part 2)
And there, right behind him, was Wu Liangchen, watching him with a look of grim amusement.
The close proximity made the hair on Sun Lingchen’s neck stand up, but he forced himself to calm down and nodded emphatically.
"That’s right! If you don’t believe me, I can call my family right now. You can demand whatever you want, and I guarantee my grandfather will agree."
Hearing Sun Lingchen’s confident words, Wu Liangchen smiled.
"That does sound tempting."
Sun Lingchen breathed a silent sigh of relief.
’No matter the cost, as long as I can save my own skin right now, it’s worth it.’
’As for what comes after...’
’Hmph. A mere Martial Cultivator has no idea of the consequences of truly angering a major family.’
’Even if this Martial Cultivator is also a Miracle Worker of immense power, it won’t make a difference.’
Of course, these thoughts were fleeting. The most pressing matter was to win Wu Liangchen’s trust and save his own life.
So, Sun Lingchen put on a sincere expression as he looked at Wu Liangchen.
"My friend, we acted on bad intel before. We did you wrong, and for that, I want to offer my sincerest apologies."
"An apology?" Wu Liangchen shook his head. "There’s no need for that. I don’t need your apology."
Sun Lingchen’s heart clenched, but he maintained his composure. "I know an apology won’t fix anything. It’s just a gesture to show you where I stand. Whatever you want, I can call my grandfather right now."
Wu Liangchen smiled again.
"What I need is very simple. For you to die!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Wu Liangchen seized Sun Lingchen by the neck and dragged him under the water.
Sun Lingchen was horrified. He never imagined Wu Liangchen would strike so suddenly, and he began to struggle violently.
But his strength was no match for Wu Liangchen’s.
Wu Liangchen’s hand on his neck was as firm as a vise.
On the contrary, Sun Lingchen’s frantic struggles only made him swallow several mouthfuls of water, and his face instantly turned pale.
Wu Liangchen remained unmoved, watching quietly as the light faded from Sun Lingchen’s eyes.
Finally.
Only when the light had completely vanished from his eyes and his body had gone stiff did Wu Liangchen finally release his grip.
But he wasn’t finished. He drove a fist into Sun Lingchen’s head, shattering it and extinguishing any last possibility of survival.
Only then did Wu Liangchen begin to search the body.
Sun Lingchen had very little on him: just a wallet and a communicator.
The wallet was stuffed with membership cards for various high-end clubs.
Clearly, Sun Lingchen had been a man who liked to play hard.
Wu Liangchen didn’t throw them away; he pocketed them.
Since the cards weren’t registered to a specific name, he kept them. They might be useful later.
As for the communicator...
After surfacing, Wu Liangchen immediately pressed the call button.
A pre-saved contact channel was stored, and the call connected quickly.
After a brief wait, an aged but dignified voice came through from the other end.
"Hello? Chenchen, did you get him?"
’Just as I thought!’
A cold smirk touched Wu Liangchen’s lips. He said lightly, "Apologies, but it seems he wasn’t caught."
The line went silent for a moment. Then, the old voice sighed. "Name your terms. As long as you don’t hurt Chenchen, anything can be discussed."
Meanwhile, on the top floor of a skyscraper in the most prosperous district of Qing Province, a man with a commanding presence was on the phone, his brow furrowed.
At a gesture from him, the secretary and butler attending to him sprang into silent, nervous action.
One of them immediately opened a laptop and began tracing the communicator’s location.
At the same time, the sound of perfectly synchronized footsteps echoed from the hallway outside.
The corporation’s elite troops were rushing to the location.
Sun Fusheng held the communicator, quietly waiting for the other party to state his terms. At the same time, he picked up a pen and wrote three words on the notepad in front of him: "The sound of waves."
The secretary beside him saw this and immediately noted the information down.
This would be a great help in tracking the target’s location.
Just then, a cold voice came from the communicator.
"Sorry, I don’t want anything. As for your precious Chenchen... he’s already dead!"
"What?" Sun Fusheng, who had been as calm as still water, shot bolt upright. His face, though aged, still held a certain charisma, but now it was twisted with shock and rage.
"Do you have any idea what you’re doing?"
"Of course I know. I’m playing a game with your Sun family. A game to the death. But you’re the ones who started it. So, I’m afraid how it ends is no longer up to you."
Sun Fusheng smiled, but it was a smile that sent shivers of terror down one’s spine.
"Are you threatening me?"
"No. I’m merely stating a fact."
Just then, the detailed coordinates of the communicator were finally traced.
The secretary silently placed the laptop in front of Sun Fusheng.
Seeing the coordinates, which placed the communicator right by the port, Sun Fusheng’s gaze grew sharper.
"So, you intend to challenge the entire Sun family by yourself?"
"You’re certainly a cut above your grandson. All he did before he died was beg me for mercy. Tsk, tsk. How pathetic."
CRACK! The titanium pen in Sun Fusheng’s hand shattered. Ink, dark as blood, streamed down his wrist.
"I hope you can maintain this bravado when it’s your turn to die. And that you don’t beg me for mercy," Sun Fusheng said, his voice ice-cold, clearly struggling to suppress his rage.
"Well said. But those words apply just as well to you."
"You..." Sun Fusheng started to say something more, but the other party had already hung up.
The BEEP-BEEP-BEEP of the dead line made Sun Fusheng’s fury boil over.
CRASH!
He kicked over the exquisite desk in front of him and roared, "Get people over there! I want him dead!"
In truth, before they had locked onto the communicator’s coordinates, Sun Fusheng had intended to simply order his men to launch a missile.
That’s right.
The Sun family even possessed its own small military base. Aside from the large aircraft restricted by the Alliance, it was even equipped with guided missiles.
They were the downgraded models, only capable of hitting targets within a five-hundred-kilometer range, but that was more than enough.
But upon seeing the coordinates were near the port, Sun Fusheng forced himself to hold back.
He wouldn’t have cared if he’d had to blow up a building and kill a thousand civilians, but firing a missile at the port... even for the Sun family, a local hegemon in Qing Province, that was a step too far.
If the Alliance investigated, even he would have no way to explain himself.
So, he could only order his men to get there as quickly as possible.
"Yes, sir!" the secretary responded at once, then began to make preparations for battle.
"Order everyone going to carry maximum ammunition. When they get there, I want them to saturate the area with firepower," Sun Fusheng growled, his eyes bloodshot.
"Understood!"
Missiles were restricted by Alliance law and couldn’t be launched casually.
But personal armaments were another story. At least on their home turf in Qing Province, the forces kept by the Sun family could act with impunity.
The secretary hurried away.
Sun Fusheng took a breath and leaned back in his chair.
He knew full well that by the time his men arrived, it would be nearly impossible to find any trace of Wu Liangchen.
But he had to do it—to vent his grief and fury, and to make a statement.
His mind was now racing.
He might be old, but thanks to the powerful technological enhancements from the Alliance, his mind was as sharp as it had been in his youth.
He’d gleaned two things from that call.
First, his grandson, Sun Lingchen, was truly dead. Otherwise, Wu Liangchen wouldn’t have his communicator.
Second, their previous intelligence had been wrong. This Wu Liangchen’s power was far beyond what they had imagined.
There was no other way to explain the complete annihilation of the Heaven’s Punishment Squad.
And that was an elite unit, meticulously trained by the Sun family.
Even though only one squad had been assigned to Sun Lingchen, their strength was sufficient to handle most crises.
Within Qing Province, at least, the number of people who could wipe out a Heaven’s Punishment Squad could be counted on one hand.
Therefore, the most urgent priority was to re-evaluate Wu Liangchen’s strength and prepare their defenses accordingly.
With this in mind, he issued a series of new orders, commanding the entire family to raise its defenses and prepare for an enemy assault.
In an instant, the Sun family, a behemoth that had operated in Qing Province for over a century, began to bare its fangs.
The massive troop movements sent a stir throughout all of Qing Province.
