Chapter 447: Chapter 320: A Game to the Death
Explosions!
One after another!
Balls of fire bloomed across the sky. Mechanical fragments mixed with bloody remains rained down, and the air was thick with the stench of motor oil and charred flesh.
Sun Lingchen watched this scene in utter terror.
Just moments ago, countless beams of white light had shot up from the water, wiping out nearly eighty percent of the Celestial Punishment squad.
Although he was unharmed thanks to the complete protection of the Captain of Celestial Punishment at his side, Sun Lingchen could already smell the stench of death.
After all, judging by the power Wu Liangchen had displayed, this turbulent sea was his absolute domain.
He, Sun Lingchen, was one of heaven’s chosen, destined to pass judgment on others. He had never imagined that one day he would become a helpless lamb to the slaughter.
A sense of powerlessness seized his heart, making it difficult to breathe.
Just then, he heard the urgent voice of the Captain of Celestial Punishment.
"The Floating Technique is about to fail! Young Master, brace yourself. We’re taking the fight into the water!"
Sun Lingchen’s heart sank into despair, but he still took a deep breath and held it.
The next moment, the Floating Technique gave out, and the two of them plummeted into the sea.
The frigid seawater swallowed Sun Lingchen in an instant.
Sun Lingchen knew how to swim. His aristocratic upbringing had included it as a matter of course.
In fact, his swimming proficiency was comparable to that of a professional athlete on Blue Star.
But that was utterly useless here.
The ocean was no temperature-controlled indoor pool; its conditions were incredibly complex.
Besides, Sun Lingchen was in a complete panic. If the Captain of Celestial Punishment hadn’t been holding him in a tight grip, he would have already sunk to the bottom.
Even so, his panic and despair were rapidly depleting his oxygen.
Although he was in peak physical condition, he hadn’t undergone systematic martial arts training. This was to ensure smoother breakthroughs later, once he had a suitable Martial Vein transplanted.
To put it bluntly, he was just an ordinary youth, albeit one with a physique stronger than most.
And so, he quickly began to suffocate.
Thankfully, the Captain of Celestial Punishment activated his underwater apparatus. His modified skin allowed him to breathe underwater, and jets of air blasted from his feet, propelling them rapidly toward the surface with Sun Lingchen in tow.
The surface was just ahead. Sun Lingchen, his face flushed red and his heart pounding wildly from the lack of air, finally saw a glimmer of hope.
But in the next instant, that hope turned to deep despair.
The surface of the water suddenly stilled, and a bone-chillingly cold current enveloped them.
Their ascent was halted, and Sun Lingchen felt a thick layer of frost crystallize all over his body.
Ice!
’It’s him! He’s doing this!’
The thought flashed through Sun Lingchen’s mind as his vision began to go black.
He was about to pass out.
BOOM!
A massive explosion erupted from behind, and Sun Lingchen felt an immense force hurl him through the water.
The moment he broke the surface, Sun Lingchen greedily gasped the sweet air, feeling for the first time just how beautiful the sunlight was.
He had been underwater for little more than a minute, but it had felt like a century.
That experience had purged him of all greed.
All he wanted now was to escape this terrifying stretch of sea and go meekly home.
What others would think of him no longer mattered.
Even though the Celestial Punishment squad had been nearly wiped out, Sun Lingchen was confident that his doting grandfather would never punish him.
’Yes!’
’That’s what I’ll do!’
Sun Lingchen made a silent resolve.
’I’m done with this game,’ he thought. ’The Martial Vein is tempting, but it’s not worth my life.’
’After all, I won the birth lottery. My life is a prize that countless people can only dream of.’
So, he decided that as soon as the Captain of Celestial Punishment surfaced, he would have the man find a way to get them out of there.
But something was wrong.
Sun Lingchen was already falling back toward the water, yet the Captain of Celestial Punishment was still nowhere in sight.
Confused, he glanced down. He saw that the frozen sea surface had shattered at some point, and a patch of unnatural red was now blooming in the churning waters below.
Sun Lingchen’s heart clenched. He stared at the scene in disbelief.
He didn’t want to believe it, but considering the captain should have surfaced by now and hadn’t, it was clear the man had likely met a grim fate.
"AAAAH! Spare me! I’m willing to pay—!"
SPLASH! Sun Lingchen hit the water. He thrashed for a moment before continuing to shout.
"I’ll pay a huge ransom! As long as you spare me, my grandfather will agree to anything you ask!"
The waves tossed Sun Lingchen about. Despite his efforts, he swallowed several mouthfuls of salty, foul-tasting seawater.
There was no response.
The silence only amplified Sun Lingchen’s terror, but he forced himself to keep shouting.
"I admit we were wrong! I’ll compensate you for all your losses! Believe me, as long as you don’t kill me, the Sun family is willing to pay any price!"
"Oh? Is that so?"
The mocking voice that suddenly whispered in his ear made Sun Lingchen’s whole body go rigid, and he almost sank beneath the waves.
Luckily, he reacted just in time, desperately trying to keep his balance in the water as he turned his head.
