Chapter 395: Chapter 293: Arriving at Heaven’s Corner
Mara, who was completely focused on steering the ship forward at full speed, suddenly sensed something was wrong. It had gotten much too quiet outside.
It was an ominous silence, chilling to the bone.
A cold sweat immediately broke out on Mara’s back.
But she didn’t reach for a weapon to fight back. Instead, after a moment of hesitation, she plucked the rose from her hair bun. She then pulled out the hairpin, shed her outer coat, and revealed her devilishly curvaceous figure.
Having done all this, she took a deep breath, and a perfectly faint, practiced smile graced her lips.
Combined with her delicate features, the effect was utterly bewitching.
Soon, the sound of footsteps came from outside.
THUMP THUMP THUMP!
The footsteps echoed through the silent cabin, each one a hammer blow to the heart, causing the guards and sailors to turn pale and tremble uncontrollably.
A flicker of unease crossed Mara’s eyes, but the smile on her face only grew more brilliant and bewitching.
Just then, the footsteps came to an abrupt halt outside the cabin door, followed by a terrifying silence.
"Open the door!" Mara suddenly made an unexpected decision.
At her words, the sailors and guards were all shocked.
"Captain..."
"I told you to open the door!" Mara’s voice was grim.
Left with no choice, the men had to suppress their terror and slowly open the cabin door.
Wu Liangchen seemed to have expected this, as he walked in without the slightest hint of surprise.
"All of you, get out!" Mara commanded.
But none of the crewmen or sailors dared to move. They just stared, transfixed, at Wu Liangchen.
Even though they were all holding firearms, they didn’t dare entertain the slightest thought of resistance.
After all, the power Wu Liangchen had just displayed was simply too terrifying. To resist now would be no different from suicide.
Wu Liangchen had no intention of letting them leave. He simply stood by the door, watching the posing Bloody Rose.
"How about we make a deal?"
Finally, Mara couldn’t keep up the facade any longer.
The pressure emanating from Wu Liangchen was simply too intense.
So intense that, despite her best efforts to remain calm, she failed. Gritting her teeth, she played her final card.
"I’ve amassed a considerable fortune over the years. If you spare my life, it’s all yours. I will also voluntarily withdraw from these waters and never set foot in them again."
"You know, the last man made the same offer," Wu Liangchen said nonchalantly. "And he’s dead."
Mara froze for a second, then broke into a brilliant smile. "But I can offer more than he could."
As she spoke, Mara gently tugged the silk ribbon at her waist. Her robe slid to the floor, revealing the delicate body beneath.
Even in this life-or-death moment, the breathing of many men in the cabin grew heavy.
"And if you add me to the deal, would that be to your satisfaction?" Mara purred, her eyes brimming with raw, beckoning desire.
Wu Liangchen didn’t even bat an eyelid. He just strode forward.
The smile on Mara’s face grew even more radiant. She stood there like a goddess of pleasure descended to the mortal realm, stirring the desires of the world.
But just then, a flash of cold steel shattered the stillness of the cabin.
In the next instant, Wu Liangchen stood before her, his long saber pressed to her throat. Its edge had already broken her pale skin, drawing a single, ruby-red bead of blood.
Mara could no longer smile. Her once-pliant body was frozen stiff, not daring to move a single inch.
"Is this enough for you?" Wu Liangchen asked flatly.
The Bloody Rose, a woman who had once commanded the high seas, didn’t dare utter a word. She could only stare pleadingly at Wu Liangchen, hoping that a show of weakness might grant her a sliver of a chance to live.
But Wu Liangchen wasn’t buying it. With a flick of his wrist, the blade flashed. A head flew into the air, and before it could even hit the deck, countless rays of white light erupted within the cabin.
The rays of light struck the heads of every crewman present at the exact same moment, and a gruesome scene unfolded.
The heads of the sailors and crewmen all exploded in unison, spraying brains and blood like grotesque fireworks, turning the entire cabin into a living hell.
At that same moment, Wu Liangchen burst out of the cabin and returned to the deck.
The battle was already nearing its end. Wu Liangchen’s initial overwhelming assault, followed by the destruction of the two following flagships, had thrown all the pirates into a state of utter panic.
Without a unified command, they were quickly picked off one by one and sent to a watery grave.
The battle was a resounding victory. Aside from a few crew members who were unlucky enough to slip and fall overboard, they had suffered almost no casualties.
This thrilled Annabelle.
This one battle had completely resolved the crisis facing the Belle family.
Although they hadn’t annihilated every pirate in these waters, the destruction of the two great pirate fleets—the Iron Rakshasa and the Blood Rose—was more than enough to intimidate everyone else.
For at least three years, no other pirates would dare cast a greedy eye on this shipping lane.
’After this, my own position will be completely secure.’
’And it’s all because of the man standing before me.’
At this thought, a fire ignited in Annabelle’s heart, and her gaze upon him seemed to melt.
Wu Liangchen, however, paid her no mind, simply saying, "The battle is over. I’ll leave the rest to you."
With that, he returned to his cabin.
Annabelle felt a pang of disappointment, but she quickly pulled herself together and began directing the cleanup of the battlefield.
Many of the ships were damaged beyond repair. Annabelle had all the usable supplies and materials consolidated onto the few vessels that were still seaworthy, then ordered the rest to be scuttled.
This step alone took an entire day. Combined with the repairs and reorganization of their own fleet, it wasn’t until three days later that the dust finally settled.
The fleet set sail once more, heading straight for Sky’s Edge.
This time, they encountered no further obstacles, smoothly crossing a thousand miles of empty sea before finally reaching their destination.
It was a peculiar stretch of ocean.
Ahead lay a thick fog that blotted out the sky.
The fog bank split the sea in two. To stop before it was like arriving at the end of the world, instilling a sense of endless dread and panic.
This was the origin of the name Sky’s Edge.
Wu Liangchen stared intently at the dense fog in the distance, but even with his extraordinary vision, he could not pierce its veil.
"My family sent a fast clipper in to explore it once," Annabelle explained softly, her tone somber. "It never returned. Even the towline we attached to maintain contact was snapped. No one has dared to venture in since."
