Chapter 367: Chapter 274: Midday Assassination, To Kill and To Crush the Spirit (Part 2)
With that, Wu Liangchen picked up his spoon and scooped up some of the wonton broth to taste.
To be honest, it wasn’t very good.
At least, it was a far cry from Uncle Bai’s wontons.
Uncle Bai’s wontons used a broth simmered from large bones and chicken carcasses.
They might not seem like valuable ingredients, but the resulting broth was rich and mellow.
The broth for this bowl of wontons, on the other hand, was made with expensive ingredients, and he could even taste a hint of seafood. But it was too complex, losing its essential character.
The wontons themselves only confirmed Wu Liangchen’s opinion.
The wontons were all for show. The filling was finely minced shrimp paste, which, while not bad, was a flavor Wu Liangchen didn’t particularly care for.
As if sensing his disappointment, the already nervous Takizawa Sayon’s voice began to tremble.
"Mr. Wu, this...."
"It’s acceptable, but don’t make it again." Wu Liangchen didn’t want to crush the young woman’s spirits; after all, she had gone to some trouble.
Even if she had ulterior motives, Wu Liangchen wouldn’t get angry over it.
In any case, he didn’t plan on staying here for long. He would be gone in a couple of days, and all their schemes would come to nothing.
Hearing this, Takizawa Sayon was filled with disappointment.
She had indeed researched Wu Liangchen’s past meticulously and thought she had figured out his preferences. She had brought out her trump card, but things hadn’t gone according to plan at all.
All her efforts had been in vain, which made her feel like a complete clown.
She could even imagine the gloating look from Yokoyama Misaki behind her.
But she didn’t dare let it show, so she could only force a smile and nod.
"I’ll remember that, Mr. Wu."
But just as she turned to leave, a sudden noise came from outside. An instant later, the dining room’s doors and windows shattered with a BOOM. A brilliant flash of sword light, as dazzling as the midday summer sun, shot toward Wu Liangchen at the center of the table with unparalleled ferocity.
Cups and plates shattered and soup splattered everywhere in its wake.
Takizawa Sayon was right beside the table and was caught in the crossfire.
A shard of porcelain sliced across her face, leaving a deep gash.
Blood gushed out, instantly staining her pretty face red.
She froze for a moment, then let out a desperate scream.
For someone who valued her appearance as much as her life, how could she possibly endure such a wound?
But by now, no one was paying her any attention.
The broken porcelain shards were flying around the room like shrapnel, forcing Yokoyama Daisuke and the others to duck and dive for cover, with no time to worry about anyone else.
Meanwhile, the magnificent, powerful sword strike headed straight for Wu Liangchen’s neck.
But at that very moment, Wu Liangchen didn’t even get up. He remained seated, one hand holding his wine cup, while the other shot up and, in the blink of an eye, blocked the ferocious strike.
CLANG.
His hand met the sword, producing the crisp sound of metal striking metal.
The swordswoman felt her arm go numb from the impact. Then, she saw a sight that terrified her.
A rich, golden light had appeared on Wu Liangchen’s palm.
Her heart pounded wildly. She knew instantly that the mission had failed.
Because she recognized that golden glow. It was a phenomenon that only appeared when the Vajra Institute’s ultimate Cultivation Technique, the Golden Body Cross Training Skill, was cultivated to an extremely profound level.
’So this man actually has ties to the Vajra Institute?’
The woman’s heart filled with panic and regret.
If she had known this beforehand, she would never have been so reckless as to attempt this assassination.
Because with such a high-level body-strengthening Cultivation Technique, Wu Liangchen’s threat level was more than doubled.
At the very least, her sword couldn’t even break through his defense.
"Retreat!"
She shouted, then tapped the tabletop with the tip of her foot.
CRACK! The hardwood tabletop instantly shattered, and using the force, she shot backward in a hasty retreat.
The entire sequence was executed with extreme speed.
It had to be said, the woman’s decisiveness was astonishing. From drawing her sword, to realizing the mission was impossible, to her subsequent retreat, the entire process took only a few moments.
But as fast as she was, Wu Liangchen was faster.
Wu Liangchen drained the wine in his cup in one gulp, then said lightly, "Since you’re already here, why the rush to leave? That’s not how a proper guest behaves."
As his words fell, Wu Liangchen vanished from his spot. The next instant, he reappeared right in front of the retreating woman and gave her a wide grin.
"Your Swordsmanship is not bad. A pity your strength is too weak."
The woman was horrified.
She hadn’t even seen how Wu Liangchen moved before he was in front of her. His ghostly speed was immensely oppressive.
Acting on her Martial Artist’s instinct, she immediately raised her sword to strike.
The blade cut through the air, letting out a sharp whistle.
Even at this critical moment, the angle, speed, and power of her strike were all impeccable.
Anyone else might have actually been struck down.
Unfortunately for her, she was facing Wu Liangchen.
It could be said that from the moment Wu Liangchen began his journey, he had been fighting constantly, never stopping.
His combat experience was therefore far richer than the average person could imagine.
As the sword came slashing down, Wu Liangchen didn’t retreat. Instead, he advanced, closing the distance and striking out with his palm, hitting the sword’s hilt perfectly.
CRACK.
The longsword shattered into pieces.
Not only that, but the remaining force shattered the woman’s wrist.
Overwhelming pain washed over her, but the woman gritted her teeth and didn’t make a sound. Instead, she drew a dagger with her other hand and stabbed toward Wu Liangchen’s lower body.
