Chapter 554
By coming to this small town, Adam was merely a passing traveler, once he finished dealing with his matters, he would eventually leave.
Hearing Adam’s gentle yet resolute words, Zella felt as if her heart had been pricked by a needle, pain mixed with a trace of unwillingness, but she did not let her tears fall, instead, she stubbornly raised her head, a more resolute light shining in her eyes.
"Brother Zeon, I understand your concerns and know that my decision might put you in a difficult position, but please believe that my feelings are genuine and I am serious, I wouldn’t make a decision based on impulse, nor will I give up easily," though her voice was soft, every word was powerful, brimming with her dedication and persistence for love.
Looking into Zella’s determined eyes, Adam could not help but feel complex emotions, he knew very well that he was only a passerby, that even this world itself was fake, he could not give Zella a stable future, yet he could not bear to see her so heartbroken.
He sighed gently, "Zella, you are a good girl, and you deserve someone better, as for me, I am just a drifting traveler, I cannot give you the life you want."
"Brother Zeon, I don’t care about your past, nor do I care where your future will lead, I only care about the present, and I just want you to know my feelings," Zella’s eyes grew slightly red, but she tried hard to maintain her smile, not letting her vulnerability show.
In the following days, Zella launched an even more passionate and sincere pursuit of Adam, every day, she prepared a hearty breakfast and delivered it to his doorstep, when Adam was busy, she silently kept him company and helped out by his side, she was not afraid of the stares from others in the town, acting as if she had set her heart solely on Adam.
Watching all this unfold, Vance’s mood was like a sky shrouded in dark clouds, gloomy and oppressive, standing in a secluded corner, his gaze frequently glancing toward Adam’s house, the jealousy and anger in his heart spread like a prairie fire, he knew he could not compare to Adam in Zella’s heart, that gentleness and resilience were things he could never reach.
A twisted plan quietly took shape in his mind, if Adam was gone, then Zella would be his.
As night fell, the small town was gently blanketed by moonlight, appearing exceptionally peaceful, under the cover of darkness, Vance quietly arrived at Zella’s window and softly called her name.
Zella had already fallen asleep, jolted awake by this sudden voice, although confused, she threw on a coat, got up, and opened the window.
"Zella, it’s me, Vance," his voice was low and urgent, carrying unquestionable resolve.
She was slightly taken aback, "It’s so late, is something the matter?"
"Something very important, I have to say it right now," Vance’s eyes darted around, trying to conceal the panic in his heart.
He gestured for her to come out, saying he had something to say in private, although Zella found it strange, out of trust for Vance, she decided to go downstairs to see him.
When she stepped out into the sparsely traveled alley, an ominous premonition arose in her heart, she felt as if a crimson aura was drifting around Vance’s body, however, just as she wanted to turn and leave, Vance had already stepped forward and grabbed her wrist.
"Zella, I’ve liked you for a long time, did you know that?" His voice carried a trace of madness, he stared intently at her, as if wanting to devour her whole.
Zella struggled in terror, shouting loudly, "Vance, let go of me! What you’re doing is wrong!"
But Vance had already lost his reason, he jerked her forward into his embrace, attempting to conquer her resistance with sheer violence.
She struggled desperately, tears swirling in her eyes, she had never imagined she would encounter such danger.
Just then, urgent footsteps approached, and Adam’s voice rang out in the night, "Zella, is that you? What happened?"
It turned out that before coming to Zella’s house, Vance had sneaked to Adam’s door and lured him out.
Seeing Adam arrive, the corners of Vance’s mouth curled up.
"Zella, I’m sorry, you’ll have to sleep for a bit," Vance shoved a pill into her mouth.
Zella instantly fainted.
"What did you do to her?" Adam charged forward immediately.
"Don’t come closer, one more step and I’ll kill her," Vance pulled out a knife and pressed it against Zella’s neck.
Adam furrowed his brows tightly, "Vance, do you know what you are doing? You will never win her heart this way!"
"Bullshit, she is mine, she must be mine, Zella is definitely mine," Vance’s expression was ferocious, "I fed her a pill, she will forget everything, so as long as you leave, no one can stop me."
A pill? Adam frowned, how could there be pills in this small town? "Where did you get that pill?"
"Mind your own business, leave, or else I’ll... Zella... you..." Before Vance could finish, he looked down at Zella in absolute terror.
Her face was a dark purplish-black, blood was continuously pouring from the corners of her mouth.
"Zella, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me."
"Let her go, give her to me, she’s been poisoned, what exactly did you feed her?" Adam strode forward, though he currently lacked cultivation strength, his experience with medicine was still there.
"Zella... no, no, she said this was just a drug to make someone forget and fall asleep," Vance held Zella, anxiously calling her name.
"Stop wasting time, give Zella to me," Adam shoved Vance aside, ready to analyze the poison.
Beside Zella’s gradually lifeless body, unprecedented determination flickered in Adam’s eyes, he pulled a delicate silver needle from his pocket, without spiritual energy, acupuncture was the best method to sustain her life.
"Vance, explain this clearly, what exactly is this poison?" Adam’s voice was deep and powerful, every word carrying unquestionable majesty.
Vance trembled, eyes full of fear and remorse, "You... you actually poisoned Zella! I’ll fight you to the death."
Shouting this, Vance charged at Adam.
"What are you doing?" Adam was utterly confused, holding Zella in his arms, he had no choice but to use his evil qi to repel Vance.
Bang!
In an instant, Vance was sent flying.
"Murder, the monster is killing people!" Suddenly, the voices of the villagers rang out from behind.
