Chapter 546
“Leon, don’t give up, you still have me, your sister, you must live on properly,” the woman hugged his head, speaking gently.
Leon’s eyes flickered with a strange light in the dim cell, a complex emotion mixing despair, fury, and unwillingness, he stared at his sister’s gentle yet firm face, and that long-suppressed power in his heart seemed to find an outlet at last, her encouragement was like the brightest star in the night sky, illuminating the barren darkness within him.
“Sister, you’re right, I can’t just give up like this,” Leon’s voice was deep and firm.
He slowly stood up, a bizarre red light began to permeate the air around his body, energy formed from the fury and indignation that had been accumulating deep within his heart for so long, the red light grew increasingly intense, completely enveloping his figure, his eyes also turned completely red, as if capable of seeing through all hypocrisy and injustice in the world.
He abruptly struggled, the sturdy iron chains actually broke inch by inch under his power, letting out crisp metallic snapping sounds that echoed through the silent cell, hearing the commotion, the guards rushed over vigilantly to check, but when they saw Leon’s demonic figure, every single one of them was terrified out of their wits.
There was not a shred of hesitation in Leon’s eyes, only endless fury and absolute resolve, his figure flashed, appearing before a guard, with a casual motion, his palm pierced straight through the man’s chest, blood splattered everywhere, dyeing his clothes red.
“I was not wrong, that old man brought it upon himself,” Leon’s voice echoed throughout the office, carrying unquestionable majesty, he seemed to have incarnated into a demon of vengeance, every movement was precise and fatal, leaving behind shadows wherever he passed.
Chaos rapidly spread within the office, panicked screams and the clashing of weapons intertwined, composing a symphony of death.
Yet Leon seemed to be in another world, he had only one thought in his heart, to prove his innocence and let everyone know the truth, he wove through the crowd, every strike clean and decisive, leaving no leeway, those villagers and constables who had once mocked and accused him had now all become wandering souls by his hand, there was not a shred of pity in his eyes, only deep despair and fury toward this world, behind him, a river of blood had already formed.
However, amidst this endless slaughter, a faint trace of unease flickered in Leon’s heart.
“What are you doing?!” A furious shout suddenly rang out, it was a young man radiating immortal qi from his entire body.
“Mind your own business, are you here to kill me too?” Leon’s eyes were completely bloodshot, he picked up a constable’s blade and slashed toward the young man.
“I know you have suffered a great injustice, but look behind you, you’ve killed so many innocent people, having suffered an injustice is useless now,” the young man roared angrily.
He was a disciple from an immortal sect who had descended the mountain for worldly experience, hearing Leon’s story, he had prepared to help overturn the verdict, yet things had turned out like this, he knew that after such actions, Leon could never turn back.
Leon was violently blasted away by a sudden force, his body traced an arc through the air like a kite with a snapped string, crashing heavily onto the cold stone slabs.
Pain surged like a tidal wave, but it could not compare to the shock and agony in his heart, he struggled to raise his head, as far as his eyes could see, it was a total mess of lost lives, those once-vibrant lives were now lying quietly in pools of blood, their faces twisted, their eyes full of unwillingness and terror.
The heavy stench of blood permeated the air, intertwining with the mildew to form a suffocating sense of despair, Leon felt as if a massive boulder were pressing on his chest, making it impossible to breathe.
“What… what did I do?” he muttered, voice trembling, a flash of disbelief passed through his eyes, immediately replaced by endless remorse, he closed his eyes, trying to erase it all, but those scenes were branded far too deep to wipe away.
Tears slid down silently, dripping onto the icy floor and instantly swallowed by blood, Leon held his head with both hands, groaning in agony, he realized that not only had he failed to clear his name, but he had become another sinner, an executioner with blood-soaked hands.
Right then, the young man slowly walked up, his gaze held both reproach and sympathy, “Leon, you shouldn’t have done this,” every word struck Leon’s heart like a heavy hammer.
Leon raised his head, teary eyes full of confusion and helplessness, “I… I just wanted to prove my innocence, I just wanted them to know the truth,” he bellowed hoarsely, voice brimming with despair.
The young man sighed, crouching to eye level, “The truth is certainly important, but the method is equally crucial, answering violence with violence will only harm more people and make the truth harder to bring to light,” his expression turned severe, “I originally intended to help clear your name, but now, I can only eliminate this menace on behalf of heaven.”
He raised the sword in his hand, preparing to bring it cleaving down.
Leon was gripped by agonizing pain, body trembling, completely unresponsive to the blade above.
Just as the edge was about to fall upon his head, the woman in the white dress appeared before Leon, her soft hands gently cradled his face.
“You are not at fault, Leon, you cannot be blamed, it is all their doing, who told them to arrest you without uncovering the truth? You were to be beheaded tomorrow, you had no other choice.”
“You cannot simply die here, you still have to live on together with me, your sister.”
Leon’s body abruptly ceased trembling, his eyes turned an even deeper crimson.
“Right… I am not at fault, Sister, I am sorry… I actually forgot about you,” Leon shook his head as the crimson radiance around his body erupted violently.
“No,” Leon’s voice was deep and thunderous, each word ground through clenched teeth, dripping with absolute resolve and venomous hatred.
On what basis?
Why did the heavens force only him to endure such torment?
He refused, he would not die here.
Seeing this, the young cultivator’s brow furrowed tightly, the sword in his grip trembling faintly, clearly shaken by the raw power abruptly bursting from Leon.
