Chapter 160: Killing the Demonized Griffins IV

  • Next Chapter

’So... how should I go on about this?’

Regis thought silently to himself as he looked at the group of demonized griffins being fed by Aurelia.

Out of the 63 monsters, 31 went to Aurelia’s side while 13 and 19 went to Pandora’s and Alaric’s respectively.

At this moment, Regis was in charge of Aurelia’s group and Killian was in charge of Alaric’s.

Meanwhile, Pandora’s group was at the farthest– about tens of meters away from the others.

Regis looked at Killian on the other side and saw that he was meditating with his eyes closed, the lightning around his body intensifying as time passed by.

After a few seconds, Killian opened his eyes and nodded towards Regis.

"Hooo..."

Regis took a deep breath and nodded back at Killian.

He then looked at the group of demonized griffins before him and raised his hand before performing a downward motion.

Wooong~

It was then that the high quality pet food that the demonized griffins were eating suddenly started to float.

The monsters unconsciously followed the floating brown crystals with their beaks.

Upon a closer look, translucent blue strings could be seen pulling the pet food upwards with an increasing speed.

It was something that Regis had prepared earlier.

"It’s good that things went the way I predicted..."

He had taken the griffins’ innate sensitivity to mana into account, making sure that the amount of mana he inserted into the pet food won’t alarm them.

During their discussion earlier, Alaric told them how proud griffins were.

Due to their sensitivity to mana, they often let their guards down due to their overconfidence in their own instincts.

It was also that characteristic of theirs which was often exploited by adventurers.

At this moment, Alaric and the others paid attention to the grand scene of the demonized griffins slowly flapping their wings as they chased their food.

Regis made sure to keep the flight of the pet food at an adequate speed.

Keeping at a pace that was neither too fast nor too slow, he was able to lower the risk of aggravating the demonized griffins.

After all, it would be troublesome if they became frustrated instead as they would become out of control.

Right at this moment, the demonized griffins were still able to eat a few pet food without difficulty while still needing to exert some effort to reach the other ones that were floating away.

This persisted for a while until the monsters reached an adequate altitude for Regis’s plan to work.

As he controlled the mana strings, he got to work and drew with his wand as the pencil and the air as his canvas.

The red jewel at the tip of his wand glowed in a soft hue as it left behind symbols in the air.

As soon as Pandora, and Alaric saw what he was doing, their eyes widened in shock as they couldn’t help but rub their eyes, thinking that what they were seeing was not real.

After a few moments, Alaric couldn’t hold back any longer and commented, "When did he learn how to do that!?"

His voice was so loud that it made some of the demonized griffins glare at him.

Noticing this, Alaric felt goosebumps down his chin as he scattered the high quality pet food with more vigor.

"What is he doing?" Killian, who was nearby, approached him and asked.

Alaric glanced at him and asked, "You’re the descendant of a noble family, you really don’t know?"

"Well, my family doesn’t really focus on the knowledge concerning mana, magic and the like..." Killian answered as he scratched the back of his head.

His eyes then showed curiosity as he gestured towards Regis with his chin, "Anyways, what exactly is Boss doing?"

"Well, how should I say this..."

Alaric thought for a moment before speaking, "When casting aura arts, magic spells, and holy miracles, what do we do?"

"Why suddenly ask something so simple? Is this a test?"

"Just answer it."

"Ehh? Okay. We circulate our energies and let our words be the pathway to cast the respective technique."

Alaric nodded, "Exactly. This system places emphasis on the power of words and are called incantations; a system that is widely used by everyone today.."

"However, what Regis was using right now was an ancient way of casting a magic spell."

"Ancient?" Killian repeated in a curious tone.

"It is exactly as I said it. It is ancient and therefore, already outdated."

Alaric then took a deep breath and began to explain, "The system that Regis is using right now is called array magic which requires the caster of the magic spell to draw the magic circle themselves."

"Isn’t that too much work?" Killian asked with a frown.

Alaric nodded in agreement, "Yes, it is. That is why only very few mages on this kingdom use it. Of course, it’s not as if it’s useless."

"Really? But you just told me how you would need to manually draw the magic circles..."

Killian could imagine a mage taking a pen and a paper in a battlefield just to draw a magic circle and couldn’t help but shake his head.

It was too impractical to be used in battle; that was the conclusion he came up to.

At this moment, Alaric pointed at the strange phenomenon that was happening as Regis continued drawing around the demonized griffins in the sky.

"Although array magic takes more time to prepare, it’s still useful when you want to cast a magic spell in a large area. This is the reason why despite its inefficiency, there are still practitioners of it."

As Alaric’s voice drifted to Killian’s ears, he saw the glowing cylindrical shape that had manifested in the distance.

Seeing this, he couldn’t help but chuckle, "He’s showing off again..."

"I can’t let him get ahead of me too much."

In the next second, Killian’s eyes blazed with determination, "I better get to work too."

***

"It’s done."

Regis spoke as he took a deep breath in between his words.

At this moment, he was looking at his creation with a satisfied expression on his face.

His plan was simple: he only needed to do what he did earlier to the demonized griffin that he killed.

However, casting Aeroflow on multiple enemies was out of the question.

Therefore, he decided to use another method.

’I didn’t expect that I’ll be able to use this here...’ Regis chuckled under his breath as he thought of how unexpected of a situation this was.

Array magic was something that he had studied on a whim because of a change in his mindset over the years.

The said change was when he thought back then that he should focus on his aura and use mana as only a means of support.

However, as he thought deeply about it, he came to a conclusion that it was a waste.

The cause of this being a certain something that he had read in a book back in the library of the Alchemy Hall back in the Corelli Fortress.

Besides that, it would be a pity if he were not to take advantage of his unique situation.

After all, it was not common for someone to be able to use multiple energies despite having only one heart.

In fact, the thought of getting divine power for himself also became a budding idea in Regis’s mind.

Of course, he decided to focus and master everything he had right now since there was no opportunity for him to get divine power yet.

Wooong~~~

A soft humming sound started to resonate in the area, pulling Regis away from his thoughts.

He looked ahead and saw that the demonized griffins all had alert expressions on their faces upon feeling the fluctuations of mana in the surroundings.

In the area in front of Regis, a glowing translucent cylinder appeared and encased the monsters inside it.

After a moment of hesitation, the demonized griffins hurriedly flapped their wings in order to try and get out of the cylindrical shape made of mana.

It was at this moment that a smile crept on Regis’s lips, "It’s too late."

He waved his hand as a chant left his lips,

[Aeroflow]

WOOONG—

Numerous magic circles that had been inscribed in the air with mana, forming the shape of a cylinder, began to emit intense light.

The demonized griffins then began to fall one after the other.

They tried to desperately flap their wings, but nothing they did was able to lift their body back up in the air.

"The show’s just starting!"

Regis waved his wand again as he spoke.

SHWOOSH! SHWOOSH!! SHWOOSH!!!

Countless translucent blue mana strings then spurted from the ground and shot up in the air.

As they reached the falling demonized griffins, the mana strings behaved in a strange manner; they began spiraling and coiling around the monster’s beaks...

...and pulled them downwards, accelerating their descent and making sure that they would fall beak-first when they made contact with the ground.
