Chapter 653: [Bonus Chapter] The Alpha Wolf Combat Instinct.
The Alpha wolf immediately sensed the threat posed by the five undead Thunderhide Rhinos closing in on it.
Their massive bodies blocked several routes of escape, while their thick hides and powerful horns made them dangerous.
As the undead Thunderhide Rhinos advanced from different directions, all the fur on the Alpha wolf’s body stood on end, and its sharp eyes burned with feral intent.
It did not retreat.
Instead, the Alpha wolf lowered its body and fixed its gaze on the nearest undead Thunderhide Rhino.
Its powerful hind legs pressed against the ground, muscles tightening beneath its gray fur as it prepared to move.
The next instant, it charged forward at an astonishing speed, its body becoming a gray blur as it rushed directly toward the enormous undead beast.
The undead Thunderhide Rhino immediately reacted, lowering its massive head and thrusting its sharp horn toward the incoming enemy.
The Alpha wolf twisted its body at the last moment.
The horn passed dangerously close to its side, missing by a narrow margin as the wolf slipped past the attack.
Before the undead Thunderhide Rhino could turn around, the Alpha had already appeared beside its massive body, raising one foreleg and slashing downward with its claws.
Screech!
Its sharp claws tore through the undead Thunderhide Rhino’s flesh, ripping away a portion of its shoulder.
Delivering the attack, the Alpha Wolf wanted to retreat to a safe distance. However, before it could move farther away, a tremendous shadow descended from above.
The undead Skybreaker Roc.
Its enormous wings folded against its body as it plunged toward the Alpha wolf at extreme speed. Its sharp talons extended and ready to rip through the Alpha Wolf’s head.
The attack was swift, leaving the wolf with almost no time to react.
In the final instant before impact, the Alpha Wolf twisted its body with astonishing agility, shifting its head and shoulders away from the descending talons.
Whoosh!
The attack narrowly missed its skull, but the undead Skybreaker Roc’s claws still grazed its body, tearing through a portion of its fur and opening several deep scratches along its side.
Howl!
The Alpha wolf released a furious howl, raising its head toward the sky for a brief moment. Its eyes burned with murderous intent as it watched the undead Roc ascend again, preparing for another dive.
Yet the Alpha did not waste time attempting to retaliate against the flying enemy. Its attention shifted toward the remaining Thunderhide Rhinos.
The next instant, its body vanished from its original position.
It moved at extreme speed, leaving only a faint blur behind as it lunged toward another undead Thunderhide Rhino.
The enormous beast swung its head to intercept the approaching enemy, but the Alpha changed direction halfway through its charge, slipping around the horn before striking the creature’s side with its claws.
Bang!
The undead Thunderhide Rhino stumbled as the attack landed, its massive body shifting sideways under the impact.
Before it could recover, the Alpha had already moved away, avoiding the horn that swept toward its previous position.
Another undead Thunderhide Rhino charged from the opposite direction.
The Alpha wolf immediately accelerated, slipping between the two enormous bodies.
Their horns collided with a deafening impact as both undead Thunderhide Rhinos failed to strike their target.
Bang!
The collision shook the ground, but the Alpha Wolf was long.
When it appeared, it was beside the third undead Thunderhide Rhino and slashed at its flank before darting away.
The undead Rhino swung its head violently, attempting to catch the wolf between its horn and massive body, but its movements were simply too slow.
The fourth undead rhino charged to close the remaining gap.
However, instead of panicking, it continued moving.
It darted between the Thunderhide Rhinos, changing directions unpredictably and forcing them to adjust their attacks repeatedly.
Every time one of the enormous beasts attempted to strike, the Alpha slipped past the attack and retaliated with its claws.
Its movements were precise, and its timing was exceptional. It never remained in one place long enough for the undead rhinos to coordinate a successful attack.
Bang! Bang!
The sounds of heavy attack echoed throughout the trenches as the Thunderhide Rhinos repeatedly missed their target.
Their horns smashed against the rocky ground, and their massive bodies collided whenever the Alpha forced them into each other’s paths. ℯℯ𝑙.
Dust filled the air.
Chunks of stone scattered across the muddy ground.
Despite their overwhelming strength, the five undead Thunderhide Rhinos were struggling to contain a single enemy.
The Alpha wolf continued attacking their exposed sides, tearing away portions of flesh whenever an opening appeared.
Although its claws could not immediately destroy the massive undead beasts, each successful strike inflicted damage on their bodies.
Even the undead Skybreaker Roc struggled to land a decisive blow. Its aerial attacks forced the Alpha to remain alert, but the wolf’s movements were unpredictable, making it difficult to land a fatal attack on it.
Whenever the undead Skybreaker Roc descended, the Alpha shifted its position at the last moment.
Watching the battle unfold, Thoren was momentarily stunned.
He had encountered numerous powerful beasts since entering the Abyss, and his undead army had defeated many opponents that ordinary Awakeners would never dare confront.
However, the Alpha wolf’s performance was the most impressive of them all.
Its speed alone was extraordinary, but what truly caught Thoren’s attention was its intelligence.
The Alpha Wolf was not simply relying on its natural agility to survive.
It was constantly observing the movements of its enemies, identifying weaknesses in their formation, and exploiting it with remarkable precision.
It understood when to attack, when to retreat, and when to change targets before the undead could surround it.
Most importantly, it had quickly recognized that fighting the five Thunderhide Rhinos directly was disadvantageous.
A rare smile appeared on Thoren’s face as he watched the battle.
’Interesting.’
His eyes followed the Alpha wolf as it slipped past another horn attack and retaliated with a swift slash across the rhino’s flank.
The Alpha Wolf combat instincts were far beyond what he had initially expected from an Elite Beast.
However, Thoren did not remain distracted for long. He averted his gaze and looked toward the remaining Pressurefang Wolves.
The battle against the ordinary members of the pack was almost over. Without hesitation, he summoned four undead shield soldiers.
A faint fluctuation spread through the air as four undead figures appeared beside him, each carrying a massive shield.
Thoren’s gaze settled on the shields and a sharp glint flashed through his eyes as an idea came to mind.
He immediately recalled the undead Storm Tyrant and the undead Royalty Stonewall, bringing the two powerful undead kings.
Thoren pointed toward the four shield soldiers.
"Give them your shields." He commanded through the mental link.
The undead shield soldiers obeyed without hesitation, handing their massive shields to the four.
The undead Storm Tyrant gripped its newly acquired shield with one hand while holding its enormous hammer in the other.
Its already imposing frame appeared even more threatening with the additional protection, turning it into a heavily armed undead.
Beside it, the undead Royalty Stonewall received its own shield and adjusted its grip on the blade in its other hand.
The undead Horn Lizard King easily grips the shield with one hand and its cudgel in the other. Without the shield, it was already formidable and now, it was a killing tank.
Likewise, the undead Scorpion Men King. As undead that solely relies on it fist, the additional shield made it more dreadful.
Thoren studied them for a moment and a satisfied expression appeared on his face. His smile widened slightly.
He raised his hand and looked toward the battlefield, where the Alpha wolf was still moving between the Thunderhide Rhinos at astonishing speed.
"Kill!"
