Chapter 374: A Plot Twist!
Chapter 374: A Plot Twist!
Even though the Crimson Arc Guild and the Mantis Men tried to fortify their town against spies, how could they stop them?
Their plan moved swiftly, and they easily obtained news about the person behind Black Water.
Thoren Starfall...
The Grim Reaper.
To them, that was good news.
They had been after the Grim Reaper for weeks, and now, they could finally capture him and get their hands on such a rare specimen.
With Mantis Town pushed to the edge, they only needed to wait a day or two, and the town would belong to them.
The pressure from the factions would increase.
The Mantis Men would grow desperate.
The Crimson Arc Guild would be forced to bend to their demand.
But now, they were being attacked by an unknown group.
How could he not be furious?
Every time he wanted to achieve his goal, some unexplainable thing would happen and disrupt his plan.
’I will not allow it.’ He gritted his teeth.
’I will not.’
’This time, I must get my hands on the rare specimen, and everyone in the town must become our slave.’ An eerie, sharp glint flashed deep in his pupils.
He turned his head and looked at the three behind him.
Scorpion Men.
Their presence alone shifted the air around them.
Savage and bloodthirsty.
No human could be found within a ten meter radius around them. It was as if they were avoiding a plague.
Many awakeners did not dare stare at the three Scorpion Men more than once. Each time, their hearts pounded heavily against their chests like tolling bells.
Their carapaces gleamed faintly beneath the bloody moons.
Their segmented tails swayed slowly behind them, and the tips of their stingers glistened with a dark poisonous sheen.
They did not speak.
They did not laugh.
They only stood there, silent and cold, as if every human around them was nothing more than prey waiting to be crushed.
However, the only person that did not fear the Scorpion Men was the Young Lord.
"I will need your assistance to clear the little obstacle," he declared casually. "Of course, the reward will be increased."
The three Scorpion Men merely stared at him for a single second before they nodded.
Receiving their response, the Young Lord turned his head and looked at his men.
"Prepare. We are leaving."
A few seconds later, the Slave Trade Guild also charged forward, climbing the massive dune quickly.
Halfway there, they heard shouts and screams coming from the direction of the Silver Crest Guild.
Every member of the Slave Trade Guild tensed up, but none stopped. On the contrary, they increased their speed.
The screams carried through the night wind.
Sometimes they were sharp.
Sometimes they were muffled.
Sometimes they ended abruptly, as if the person screaming had been swallowed whole.
The Young Lord’s expression remained calm, but the coldness in his eyes deepened.
He knew the situation was not simple.
He knew the enemy was not weak.
But he still believed that with the Scorpion Men beside him, they had the power to tear through whatever obstacle stood before them.
....
...
At the Silver Crest Guild’s side, a life and death battle ensued. Garron swung his massive butcher knife with ferocity.
His mind was riddled with confusion. He could not understand where these savage beasts came from.
Unlike ordinary beasts, they did not show fear, nor were they intimidated by their power.
They came at them with all abandonment.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
He swung his butcher knife in rapid succession, cutting through a Greater Dune Scorpion’s pincers and finally cutting off its head.
However, to his shock, blood did not come out.
It was as if the beast was not alive in the first place.
Hmm?
"Undead..." he muttered, and a look of realization appeared on his face.
Even at that, the tension in his heart did not reduce but increased sharply. He only knew of one person who could command so many undead at a time.
The Grim Reaper.
Without hesitation, he turned and searched for Kaien.
"Kaien!" he shouted.
Kaien, who had appeared behind a Greater Undead Dune Scorpion ready to deliver the killing blow, stopped his attack when he heard Garron call.
Without hesitation, he vanished from his spot, and the next second, he appeared in front of him.
"What?" he asked, his breathing erratic.
Even for an Assassin like him, moving through this battlefield was not easy.
Everywhere he turned, undead Dune Scorpions closed in.
Any mistake would be fatal.
"Find the Necromancer," Garron said directly. "We can only escape if we kill him."
Kaien nodded in understanding, and his figure blended with the shadow, vanishing.
As a Level 35 Assassin, he believed it was impossible for a Necromancer to hide from him.
And this was Garron’s confidence.
As long as Kaien finished off the Grim Reaper, the battle would be over.
So he thought.
With Kaien gone, Garron reduced his battling strength as he began to conserve his energy while waiting for Kaien to finish his mission.
’As long as we kill him, everything in his inventory will belong to us.’ Garron’s heart pounded with greed.
Unlimited resources.
That thought made his mouth water.
On the second floor, resources meant survival.
Water meant life.
Potions meant another chance.
Food meant stamina.
Equipment meant power.
And if all of that belonged to him, then even the stronger Scorpion Clan would have to treat him differently.
His gaze shifted to his guild members, who were trying desperately to survive the undead beast tide but were being slaughtered in droves.
He did not try to help them.
To him, their lives were not as important as the unlimited resources he would get from the Grim Reaper.
If their deaths bought him a chance to obtain Black Water, then they had died well.
Suddenly, all the hair on his body stood on end.
His instinct flared.
Alarms rang in his mind.
Danger!
He wanted to defend himself. He wanted to evade the impending danger.
Unfortunately...
Ahhh!
A sharp scream escaped from his mouth as he staggered forward, holding his chest. His face was marred with confusion and shock.
How?
Slowly, he turned his head and looked at the person who attacked him.
Kaien.
