  1. Lunar Surface Trash

The launch vehicle successfully carried the crewed spacecraft away from the planet.

Outside the window was pitch-black, and the world beyond was utterly silent. It seemed that Teacher Wang had been left behind as well.

But Lin Ye could still feel a faint vibration, which meant Teacher Wang was probably still outside.

‘She’s way too clingy…’

Lin Ye floated in midair. This crewed spacecraft had no artificial gravity.

According to the flight plan, it would take about three more days for the spacecraft to enter lunar orbit.

Lin Ye wasn’t in a hurry. Time flowed differently in the world of consciousness and the real world. Perhaps by the time he reached the Moon, only a few minutes would have passed outside.

He had no idea what was on the Moon. Perhaps it had some special ability originating from the Card item, or perhaps it was nothing but a desolate gray-white wasteland.

‘I wonder what’ll happen if I take the medicine over there…’

Lin Ye’s true body, his brain, was locked inside a container in the Laboratory, while the world of consciousness overlapped with the real world to some extent. If he took that medicine on the Moon, his consciousness and body would become misaligned.

If they were close together, this misalignment probably wouldn’t have much of an effect. But if the distance stretched from the ground all the way to the Moon… that was hard to say.

Especially with all those dangerous anomalous phenomena in between. They might have some effect too.

Lin Ye had brought those pills precisely because he had considered this possibility.

If there was nothing on this Moon, he would try taking a look over there.

Lin Ye gazed out the window. The crewed spacecraft continued along its flight path toward the Moon. There was nothing he could do now except wait quietly for time to pass.

………………………………………

Three days later, the spacecraft was captured by the Moon’s gravity and entered lunar orbit. The lunar module separated from the spacecraft and began its descent to the surface. Lin Ye sat inside the lunar module as it rapidly approached the lunar surface.

Thump!

The already bumpy lunar module suddenly jolted, as though something had struck its roof.

“Seriously? You’re still following me?”

Lin Ye looked toward the viewing hatch. A beautiful face was pressed against it.

Below the face hung a chain of fleshy tumors.

Thumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthump!

At the sight of Lin Ye, Teacher Wang frantically battered the viewing hatch with her head. Dense cracks spread across its surface.

It wasn’t that the lunar module was poorly built. His opponent was a monster capable of crossing the universe with her bare body. This was perfectly normal.

Lin Ye had no idea how she had survived until now. Perhaps the freezing temperature of space had left Teacher Wang unable to move.

“You’re a little too enthusiastic.”

Lin Ye began operating the lunar module. He wanted to shake Teacher Wang off as soon as possible. Otherwise, the module wouldn’t last much longer.

Thump!

Teacher Wang smashed through the viewing hatch. No matter how Lin Ye maneuvered, she wouldn’t be thrown off.

“Where are you going!”

Air rushed out through the window, and Teacher Wang’s voice rang out in a frenzy.

“Goodbye.”

Lin Ye simply opened the hatch and fled the lunar module.

The module was still a long way from the surface, but fortunately, Lin Ye had prepared in advance.

He had an energy-propulsion pack on his back. It worked on the same principle as a rocket and could be used in an environment without an atmosphere.

Teacher Wang abandoned the lunar module and tried to chase after Lin Ye, but without the module, she couldn’t even change direction in this environment.

Lin Ye got away from Teacher Wang and shot toward the ground. When he was about to land, he changed the direction of the propulsion pack to slow his descent.

‘This thing’s pretty handy.’

Lin Ye landed safely on the Moon’s surface. It was silent and barren, utterly devoid of life.

‘Where’s my Card item?’

Lin Ye stamped on the lunar surface, but he couldn’t sense any power related to the Moon.

A figure in the distance was sprinting toward him. In a few dozen seconds, that thing would tear him apart and turn him into lunar surface trash.

The enormous difference in strength left him powerless to resist. Faced with this situation, Lin Ye could only swallow the medicine he had already placed beside his mouth.

…………………………………

‘This feeling… Have I turned back into a brain? But something seems different from before…’

In absolute darkness, Lin Ye gradually regained consciousness.

‘Is this place actually the research base?’

Lin Ye formed the special spiritual imprint in his mind. He desperately needed his light perception ability.

Before long, he once again sensed a silvery-white glow. This time, however, the light illuminated the entire world.

The light merged into Lin Ye’s body, and he regained his light perception ability.

He was inside a container, and once again, he was nothing but a brain.

The container was twisting and deforming. Tiny ice crystals had appeared in the liquid inside.

Lin Ye had to admit that the container made by the organization was remarkably sturdy. Even exposed to the lunar environment, it could hold up for a while.

But he was about to reach his limit. The temperature and the light were both damaging his brain. In a few more seconds, he would lose this vessel.

The container was on the verge of collapsing. Lin Ye had no choice but to convert his entire brain into light. Perhaps because he had absorbed a large amount of silvery-white light, this time he could keep his whole brain in light form for a while.

After converting into light, Lin Ye left the container. He could only hold on for half a minute. If he couldn’t find a solution within that time, he would die here.

Lin Ye sensed his surroundings with all his might. Only then did he discover that the Moon’s surface was covered in those Black Patches, and their area was continuing to expand.

That was probably why he couldn’t use the Card item.

Lin Ye couldn’t move freely now, because those black patches weren’t only attached to the lunar surface. They were floating in midair too.

After turning into light, he still hadn’t adapted to moving as light. He couldn’t travel at the speed of light like ordinary light, and if he moved around recklessly, he could easily hit one of the black patches.

Lin Ye thought it over briefly and ultimately chose to stay where he was instead of running around.

Half a minute later, a rigid, shriveled brain fell onto the lunar surface and became lunar surface trash.

【Remaining Simulation Attempts: 5】

Lin Ye climbed out of bed in the dorm. This was the first time he had encountered such a troublesome simulation mission.

‘The brain is too fragile. Even if I can convert it into light, it still can’t survive in that kind of environment for long…’

‘I have to change bodies, find one that can move around freely.’

Lin Ye wasn’t worried about losing a Simulation Attempt. He still had five left, enough for more tests.

‘Maybe I can find a new body first… I hope I guessed right. Otherwise, I’ll have to go outside and land on the Moon.’

Lin Ye really didn’t want to face those things outside.
