Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator
Chapter 925: Inside the Base
- Inside the Base
“Grab the rope. I’ll pull you up.”
Lin Ye climbed to the top of the wall and hauled the three of them up with the rope.
Just as Lin Ye was about to jump down from the wall, he saw a figure appear in the distance.
The figure was sprinting toward them. From the way it ran, Lin Ye could guess its identity: it was Teacher Wang, the one who could transform into Spider Man.
“Damn, don’t tell me it ran all the way here!”
Lin Ye led the three of them over the wall and jumped down. The sound of running outside was rapidly drawing closer.
“Hurry, follow me! We’ll hide inside!”
Lin Ye led the way. There was no time to worry about staying hidden anymore. If Teacher Wang caught up to them, that monster would tear them all to pieces.
Teacher Wang vaulted over the wall and jumped into the Lunar Base. It looked around in confusion. Once it got here, the smell of the pills suddenly scattered in every direction.
While fleeing, Lin Ye had crushed several pills halfway and tossed them in different directions, keeping only one pill on him.
Someone heard the commotion, and several security guards ran out of the building. They soon ran into Teacher Wang.
None of them noticed the four students hiding in the building’s shadow.
“The person in charge’s office should be over there. Follow me!”
After evading the security guards, Lin Ye continued to lead the way.
A jumble of gunshots rang out behind them. Every so often, a staff member came out of one of the buildings.
Teacher Wang had drawn away most of the Lunar Base’s security personnel, allowing Lin Ye and the others to find the person in charge’s office without incident.
The person in charge was an old man with a head of white hair. When Lin Ye arrived, he had just gotten out of bed.
“Never thought the person in charge would have to work overtime too. Sorry about this.”
Lin Ye stepped forward and knocked the old man unconscious. Then he entered the office and began searching for anything they could use.
“Here’s a set of keys.”
Su Yue quickly found what they needed.
“Come on, let’s go to the main control room.”
Lin Ye continued to lead the way. He needed to find out what backup options were available here. If they didn’t have enough materials, perhaps he could prepare in advance before coming back for the next simulation.
There wasn’t a single person in the main control room. Lin Ye used the keys to start the control console and began checking the facility’s status.
“To get to the Moon, we need a heavy-lift launch vehicle and a crewed spacecraft. There’s no way we can get everything ready for launch by ourselves.”
Zhou Si tapped the screen and checked the data for the entire base. He knew a little about this sort of thing.
“We have a control console, so we can operate the entire base. As long as we have enough materials, we can get everything ready for launch.”
Lin Ye knew getting to the Moon wouldn’t be easy, but compared with the anomalous phenomena running wild outside, this was already simple.
“Wait, it looks like there’s a complete set of backup equipment here…and it can be assembled automatically! We don’t have to do anything ourselves!”
Zhou Si excitedly tapped the screen. He hadn’t expected launching a rocket to be this easy.
“That’s normal. This is probably the organization’s level of technology. It’d be abnormal if we had to do it manually. Besides, you can’t exactly haul a rocket over here on a truck, can you?”
Lin Ye looked at the complicated array of buttons on the console. Beside it lay a thick manual. He could more or less figure out what each button did.
Just then, a jumble of footsteps sounded in the corridor.
Lin Ye went to the door and knocked out two security guards who had come to investigate.
They were carrying rifles of the same model. They looked powerful.
Gunfire continued without pause throughout the base. Teacher Wang was still searching for its pills.
Lin Ye closed the door. The other three were making preparations for the lunar launch.
“We can handle things here. You should go find a spacesuit that fits, then get aboard the crewed spacecraft.”
Zhao Jie picked up a rifle. He would stay here and keep watch.
“Don’t worry about me. I looked at the layout plans and know where to change into a spacesuit.”
Lin Ye didn’t feel comfortable leaving the three of them here. If the security guards caught them, it wouldn’t matter if he changed into a spacesuit ten times.
“You should go ahead. I’m worried you’ll lead Teacher Wang over here. If anything happens, I’ll message you.”
Su Yue said as she tapped the control console.
“...That’s true. I’ll leave this side to you.”
Lin Ye didn’t waste any more time. He left the central control room and began taking out the security personnel approaching their position.
Perhaps because Teacher Wang had drawn their attention, there weren’t many security guards coming this way.
After dealing with the security guards, Lin Ye boarded the launch platform, changed into a spacesuit, and entered the spacecraft.
The crewed spacecraft wasn’t very spacious, but it was fairly comfortable.
Lin Ye was a little worried about what was happening outside. He wasn’t sure whether the three of them could get the rocket launched.
But Lin Ye was clearly worrying over nothing. The real cause for concern wasn’t back there at all.
Through the small window, he saw Teacher Wang, its body covered in spider legs, approaching.
The rocket had already ignited. A tremendous thrust drove the crewed spacecraft away from the ground, but a figure covered in spider legs was clinging to the rocket’s outer shell.
“...Ahem, does this count as a successful launch?”
In the main control room, Zhao Jie looked at the screen as he asked.
“Hard to say. That monster is clinging to it, so it might interfere with the rocket’s normal operation.”
Zhou Si hadn’t expected the monster to head into space along with the rocket.
“There’s nothing we can do about that. You’d better think about how to survive instead.”
Su Yue watched the rocket gradually recede into the distance. She hoped Lin Ye would make it back alive.
“It’s fine. I brought my student ID. We’ll just say we thought the rocket ride was free.”
Zhao Jie took out the student ID he had prepared. It was his first time using the thing.
Meanwhile, Lin Ye was figuring out how to operate the crewed spacecraft.
Under normal circumstances, a crewed spacecraft didn’t need to be piloted manually. But this clearly wasn’t a normal situation.
Teacher Wang was clinging to the outside. The rocket was still climbing, and the resistance made it impossible for the creature to climb aboard for the moment. But once they got farther out, who knew what would happen?
‘It can chase me beyond the planet? All I did was take a few of your pills!’
Lin Ye flipped through the operating manual. As a Veteran Driver, he quickly learned how to use this mode of transport.
‘How can this thing not even have a weapons system? What am I supposed to do if I run into an evil space Spider Man?’
Lin Ye closed the manual, speechless. He did have a rifle, but he couldn’t exactly open the window and shoot the Spider Man below.
‘Forget it. I’ll just wait for it to go away on its own. If it kills me, I can always move faster next time.’
There wasn’t much Lin Ye could do in a place like this.
If all went well, it would take him three days to reach the Moon.
Lin Ye closed his eyes and leaned against the window. For now, he still needed the rocket’s thrust. If Teacher Wang really managed to climb aboard, he would have no choice but to try to take it down with him.
