  1. The Era of Miracles

A cruise ship several hundred meters long sailed through the clouds, with an endless expanse of blue sea below.

Lin Ye leaned back on a lounge chair on the deck, sipping a water-blue iced fruit juice.

Crystal-like white birds flew past nearby, occasionally landing on the deck to take food from the tourists' hands.

The sky above could be adjusted at will; right now it was a quiet gray-blue, as soft as the gentle breeze here.

"This really is a city?"

Lin Ye absorbed the mild spiritual energy from the environment while watching a comedy show on the light screen.

"Of course. If you don't enjoy staying here, you can move to a city block at any time through any door."

The attendant appearing beside Lin Ye replied respectfully.

"People here won't suddenly start fighting, right?"

Lin Ye found it hard to believe the system would send him to a place like this.

"You jest. Miracle City prohibits all aggressive behavior. If you wish to experience the thrill of battle, you can visit the corresponding facilities, which offer various forms of combat, whether real or simulated."

The attendant replied with a smile.

"Alright, I hope that's really the case."

Lin Ye closed his eyes. He planned to lie here and absorb spiritual energy until he completed his advancement, then take a look around.

This place was called Miracle City, and the system had teleported Lin Ye onto the deck of this cruise ship.

It was said that this sea was only one part of Miracle City, and visitors who came here could use all the infrastructure for free.

If Lin Ye wanted, he could borrow a cruise ship at any time and live out his entire life on it alone.

The interior of the cruise ship would automatically refresh all daily necessities, all of them high-end items.

But visitors who could enter Miracle City wouldn't care about such things anyway. Ordinary people couldn't come here at all.

There were only a dozen or so tourists on the entire cruise ship. Of course, if a tourist wanted to experience a livelier atmosphere, they could move to another cruise ship at any time and add any type of passenger.

Lin Ye naturally wasn't that bored. He planned to complete his advancement and then head out to take a look.

A certain mental barrier existed here, limiting tourists to using mental energy within a certain range.

Lin Ye could break through the nearby mental barrier, but he couldn't do it silently.

Of course, he wouldn't actively do such a thing anyway. After all, the master of this place hadn't provoked him and had even let him use the facilities for free.

This allowed him to easily complete his advancement and finish this exploration mission.

But Lin Ye had a nagging feeling this exploration mission wouldn't go so smoothly. The system wouldn't send him here just for a vacation.

A white bird landed on Lin Ye. He stroked its soft body and fed it the snacks beside him.

"Long time no see. I didn't expect you to come to a place like this."

The Middleman sat down on the lounge chair next to Lin Ye, holding a drink that looked quite refreshing.

"You're here for work?"

Lin Ye glanced at the Middleman. The other man looked exactly the same as before, and Lin Ye hadn't expected to run into an acquaintance here.

"Yeah, I came along with a client."

The Middleman replied with a smile.

"What a coincidence. I'm here for work too."

Lin Ye smiled and rubbed the white bird's beak with his finger.

"...A system mission?"

The smile vanished from the Middleman's face.

"An exploration mission. Don't worry, I don't know why I ended up here either."

Lin Ye said casually.

"This is Miracle City. No one can cause trouble in Miracle City... but compared to the system, Miracle City doesn't amount to much. Sorry, please allow me to leave first."

The Middleman didn't overthink it. He straightened his clothes and bid Lin Ye farewell.

"Leaving already? What if the system actually wanted to give me a vacation?"

Lin Ye hadn't expected the other man to leave so decisively.

"If the system wanted to give you a vacation, it would let you rest in the Rest Area, not send you here to carry out a mission. This is a matter of program and classification. The system isn't human; it only operates according to its rules."

The Middleman also wished Lin Ye was here on vacation, but that was simply impossible.

"Wait, you must know a lot of people here, right? Can you introduce me to some ways to make money?"

Although Lin Ye still had tens of thousands of trade points, that was only enough to buy a few rule fragments. It definitely wouldn't be enough in the future.

High-end people were everywhere here, so there had to be good money-making channels, and ones that made big money at that.

He couldn't just run around for a few trade points.

"You can go to the Miracle Bar and find this gentleman. He's something of a senior to me, a fellow adventurer here."

The Middleman handed Lin Ye a business card, then turned and walked toward the ship interior.

It was a pale gold business card with a line of colorful artistic text engraved on it: Miracle Trader.

Putting away the card, Lin Ye smoothly completed his advancement. He was now a sixth-tier spiritual energy user.

Lin Ye stood up and walked toward the nearest door. Just then, a young woman in a long black dress pushed the door open and stepped out.

"Hello, may I ask you a question?"

Scarlatti looked at Lin Ye with an interested expression.

"It should be two questions. I'm a system survivor. He probably felt something was going to happen here, which is why he left."

Lin Ye looked at this woman, whose beauty was almost unnatural, and answered truthfully.

"Ah, I see. Then may I accompany you? As you can see, I just lost my male companion."

Scarlatti extended her fair, slender right hand toward Lin Ye.

"My pleasure."

Lin Ye wasn't usually this polite to strangers, even if they were attractive young women.

But a young woman who wore rule fragments as a headpiece was a different story entirely.

Lin Ye was a true egalitarian. He wanted to earn money from both women and men alike.

Through the door, the two arrived on the streets of Miracle City. From an ordinary person's perspective, it was just a regular city with a certain charm. The buildings had darker color schemes, the architectural style was highly artistic, and every structure had a unique design.

But if one sensed with mental energy, they would discover that every street, every building, even every piece of construction material here emitted spiritual energy fluctuations above the high tier.

'...Could the system be trying to get me to rob this place? Maybe I'm not understanding the system's intent?'

Lin Ye rarely harbored ill will toward things that had nothing to do with him, but he was now entertaining a slightly wicked thought.

And he actually had the ability to do it.

It wasn't like a deity could be standing guard here as a security guard, right?

"When I first came here, I was equally awestruck."

Scarlatti revealed a charming smile, clearly having no idea what Lin Ye was thinking.
