Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 483: Swarm Siege
Once the Void Beetles’ attention was drawn by the Skeleton Undead, the Black Knights would advance with the troops to launch a surprise attack when the opportunity arose.
The Black Knights were a High Level Soldier Species, after all, and had minds of their own. When Li Ziyu first gave them this order, they were far from pleased. For the first time, they talked back to their City Lord in the Soul Network.
“We are honorable Black Knights!”
“We must fight them head-on!”
“Surprise attacks violate a warrior’s honor!”
“We do not fear death!”
“Boss, you can’t give this order!”
“City Lord, let me lead the attack!”
‘Sigh. The bigger the army gets, the harder it is to manage. To think these guys with infinite loyalty would actually start making demands.’
‘However, you only have the right to make suggestions. The right of final interpretation is still mine,’ Li Ziyu thought, his eye twitching. ‘You’ll all obey me in the end.’ He shouted to the clamoring Black Knights through the Soul Network, “All of you, shut up and do exactly as I say!”
“They’re just bugs! Any one of us could kill them with a single strike!”
“Enough talk!”
“For the glory of the warrior, I will lead the charge!”
“You will be the last to leave the Fortress.”
“How come those dumb Knights get to charge?”
“Because they’re on horseback.”
“So can we!”
“Do you have any self-awareness at all? You’re a unit of Heavy Armored Infantry, trying to compete with Cavalry in a Charge?”
While sparring verbally with the Black Knights over the Soul Network, Li Ziyu arranged for their surprise attack. ‘Hmph. You can’t fight city hall. In the end, they still have to listen to me.’
The Tattooed Skeletons, who hadn’t seen action in a long time, also grew restless. They secretly followed the Black Knights, leaping out of the Fortress. Li Ziyu noticed, of course, but didn’t intervene. ‘Those Tattooed Skeletons are plenty smart,’ he thought. ‘They know what’s good for them. If they want to go, then let them.’
The charge of the Undead threw the battlefield into chaos. The man stood where he was, stunned, looking all around. The beetles were now tied down by the Undead. Although they couldn’t kill the insects as instantly as he could, it had to be said that the Black Knights’ combat power was far greater than that of the Skeleton Knights. They could actually kill the beetles; it just took a bit of effort.
The Skeleton Knights, after all, were a mobile force that relied on their Charge and various Skills. In a straight-up fight, they were no match for the Heavy Armor Warrior Black Knights. Once those guys got in close, their combat prowess was ferocious.
As their companions died one after another, the Void Beetles finally panicked. They tried to break through the Undead’s encirclement to escape, but once you’re surrounded by Undead, is there really any chance of escape? Unless Li Ziyu gave the order to retreat, his deathless Undead would hold them fast.
Time passed, and at last, the final Void Beetle fell. A Black Knight strode forward, planted a foot on the beetle’s head, raised his Black Knight Longsword high, and plunged it down with force. The Void Beetle let out a piercing SKREEEEEE, struggled for a moment, then its limbs curled up and it went silent.
Of the hundreds of Void Beetles, not a single one escaped. They all perished within the Undead’s encirclement.
The man stood silently, axe in hand, and surveyed the Undead surrounding him. He clicked his tongue, and his gaze landed on the Undead Fortress.
‘The enemies are gone. Time for the real master to show up, I suppose?’
‘He was quite curious about the ruler of the Undead Fortress. Why did the Undead help him? And how could this massive city move?’
He didn’t have to wait long. The Undead began to move. The Skeleton Undead gathered into a dense circle, while the Black Knights—whom he found somewhat impressive—formed two ranks. They rested their Long Spears on the ground before them, standing in silence. Together, they formed a corridor leading from the man all the way to the Undead Fortress.
In the distance, the man saw a group approaching. The one in the lead was a… Human?
He suddenly didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ‘Is this some kind of joke? A moving Fortress, and the ruler of the Undead is a Human?’
‘What in the world is going on?’ The man’s expression was strange. He let out a short, humorless laugh and waited for the Human to approach.
