Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 476: Setting Off (Part 2)
Following his gaze, Guli Geli shivered violently. She suddenly remembered where she was, and a realization dawned on her.
‘These Skeletons… could it be…’
Her face turned pale at the thought.
Before entering the Great Tomb, she had been escorted by a crowd of Undead and hadn’t gotten a clear look at the Undead Fortress. However, judging from the sheer number of Undead surrounding her, she knew their Skeletons were by no means few. After signing the Soul Contract with Li Ziyu, she gained the right to walk freely within the Great Tomb, and the Undead no longer attacked her.
She hadn’t been idle during this time. She had wandered through the Great Tomb, marveling at its vastness—it was like an endless labyrinth. At the same time, she was astounded by the number of Skeletons within; there were truly a great many.
If all these Skeletons were people Li Ziyu had “sent away,” then just how many had her new master killed?
It was unimaginable!
Seeing the fear in Guli Geli’s eyes, Li Ziyu grinned. “Don’t overthink it. You’re one of us now.”
Guli Geli swallowed hard and managed a stiff nod.
It wasn’t that she had never seen a battlefield. On the contrary, in the seemingly peaceful Void Land, war was a constant occurrence. Battles erupted every day between Tribes, and between Tribes and Void Creatures. But the thought of the Undead in the Great Tomb still sent a chill down her spine.
“Oh, right. You haven’t left the Great Tomb since you arrived, have you? Come on, I’ll show you around.” Li Ziyu tapped his head, getting up with a smile.
“Oh.” The terrifying thought had made Guli Geli much more docile. She nodded obediently and followed Li Ziyu.
She was truly terrified now. Even though her master kept saying she was one of them, and even though they had a Soul Contract, Li Ziyu could decide her life or death with a single thought. She hadn’t really felt it before, but she did now. The master before her was no ordinary person. If he said he’d kill her, he would actually do it.
Li Ziyu wasn’t concerned with Guli Geli’s thoughts. Once a contract was signed, you were one of his people. As long as Guli Geli didn’t cause trouble, he wouldn’t kill someone without reason. Li Ziyu considered himself a benevolent person. Whether it was the Tabu Minotaur, the Cat Girl, or the Snake-man, he had welcomed them all to join him with good intentions.
Once Guli Geli spent more time in the Undead Fortress, she would understand. Explaining it now was useless; words were always empty and dull.
With a wave of his hand, a portal opened before them. Li Ziyu went first, Guli Geli followed, and the two of them stepped through.
Sunlight poured down from the sky. The sudden brightness made Guli Geli instinctively raise a hand to shield her eyes. Although there was light in the Great Tomb, it was the glow of Soul Fire, nothing compared to the dazzling sun outside.
As her eyes adjusted to the light, the scene before her made Guli Geli’s jaw slowly drop.
There were countless tall buildings, with Skeletons moving between them. Among all the Tribes she had ever visited, she had rarely seen one so powerful—or perhaps, she had never seen one at all!
“Don’t just stand there gawking. Follow me.”
Li Ziyu’s voice reached her ears. Guli Geli looked over to see he had already walked some distance ahead and was waving her over. “Coming!” she called out, taking a few quick strides with her long legs to catch up.
Li Ziyu led Guli Geli toward the main building. Along the way, Guli Geli’s head was on a swivel, everything in the Undead Fortress seeming new and fascinating.
Especially when they reached the outside of the main building, Guli Geli didn’t know where to look. The variously shaped statues and the immense structure all drew forth her sincere admiration, which earned her a teasing remark from Li Ziyu: “You look like you’ve never seen anything before.”
Upon entering the Fortress, the hairs on Guli Geli’s skin instantly stood on end. She felt a deep chill, and it seemed as if eyes were watching her from all directions, staring intently as if trying to see through all her secrets. The feeling was like being in a forest teeming with hidden dangers.
Standing at the entrance, Guli Geli was too afraid to move. Her body was rigid, her legs refusing to take a step. She struggled to call out in a trembling voice, “Ma… Master…”
Li Ziyu, who was about to head up the stairs, turned to look at Guli Geli at the entrance. He thought for a moment, then stomped his foot. Guli Geli immediately felt the surrounding gazes disappear. She let out a long sigh of relief and hurried to Li Ziyu’s side. After a moment’s hesitation, she timidly reached out and grabbed the hem of his clothes.
“Hahaha… No need for that. They’ve just never seen you before and are curious.” Li Ziyu glanced down at the fingers clutching his clothes and said with a laugh.
“They?” Guli Geli didn’t let go. Instead, she scanned her surroundings but saw nothing.
Li Ziyu raised a hand and snapped his fingers. The entire main building instantly came to life.
Clusters of Soul Fire ignited. The strange-looking statues slowly turned their heads. Suits of Armor began to move… Everything pointed in one direction—at Guli Geli!
The Leopard Woman sucked in a sharp breath. She finally understood why she had felt gazes from every direction. They were all alive. All of these things were alive. As far as the eye could see, there was almost nothing that wasn’t animate!
Li Ziyu snapped his fingers again. The Soul Fire dimmed and retracted to its original places. The statues turned their heads back, and the Armor returned to its original position. Everything seemed to have been an illusion, like some kind of Illusion Technique.
