Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 446 - 211: Establishing a New City (2)
’Isn’t this basically a barracks that constantly produces troops? Even though it only churns out Low Level Skeleton Undead, it’s a sustainable source. Plus, I don’t have to manage it. It’s perfectly fine to be a completely hands-off boss.’
’The Undead produced in the Prayer Cemetery are perfect for guarding this new city. A virtuous cycle. Perfect.’
He built four Prayer Cemeteries in one go, allowing the Tribe members living in every direction to access a Cemetery nearby.
Besides the Prayer Cemeteries, he also constructed a Saint Hall of the Dead.
[Saint Hall of the Dead]
[Introduction: After a long period of worship, under the blessing of the Power of Faith, the special Undead ’Guardian Warriors’ and ’Heroic Spirit Remains’ will be born within the Saint Hall of the Dead. P.S. This isn’t a proper Undead Architecture. The Undead won’t be foolish enough to run into the Saint Hall of the Dead to pray. For the Undead, this building is useless; it’s meant for those vassal races. Don’t be silly and build it carelessly.]
[Construction Requirements: Skeleton*100 units, Soul Energy*10 units, Stone*10 units]
[Area: 1 unit]
The system Introduction had already made it very clear: the Saint Hall of the Dead was not for the Undead. The Undead have no concept of prayer. Low Level Undead are muddle-headed and lack intelligence, and once they reach mid-to-High Level, they have even less need for prayer. They are Undead themselves. Who would they be praying for? To bless themselves?
It was meant for the vassal races. The special Undead produced in the Saint Hall of the Dead would protect the races under the command of the Master of the Undead from invasion.
The vassal races had no authority to command the Undead, but when they came under attack, it would be the special Undead from the Saint Hall of the Dead’s turn to act. It was equivalent to Li Ziyu leaving a hidden trump card for the new city.
However, these special Undead weren’t so easily summoned. It required a long period of worship for them to be born and gain sentience. Initially, the Saint Hall of the Dead possessed no protective abilities; the vassal races had to contribute first.
Li Ziyu had just been bored, so he’d built one on a whim. He wondered if it might bring a pleasant surprise later on.
With tens of thousands of Natives and a million Undead, building a small city was no big deal. It took less than ten days to complete the houses and city walls, and Zhang Peng had also finished constructing the underground sections. All that remained were the finishing touches, such as planting greenery, installing drainage pipes, and digging wells.
Zhang Peng had collected the plants: some common, hardy trees, some bushes that would yield wild fruit, and some seeds. Li Ziyu had the Skeleton Undead plant everything. From then on, the survival of these plants would be up to the Natives living here.
To prevent the Natives from letting all the vegetation die, Li Ziyu specially summoned the local Clan Leaders and Chieftains. He warned them to take good care of the plants, stating that he would return to inspect them. If all the vegetation was dead by the time he came back, then they, the Clan Leaders and Chieftains, wouldn’t need to live anymore either.
’Isn’t planting things usually what races like the Elves, who believe in the God of Life, do?’
’Why are the Undead doing it too?’
The terrified Clan Leaders and Chieftains were utterly baffled, but they didn’t dare to ask, much less question the order. This was a command from the Master of the Undead. ’Questioning the Master of the Undead? Do they think life is too good? Are they hoping to become Undead themselves?’
Besides, this order wasn’t harmful to them—in fact, it was full of benefits. How could they have any complaints? They just had to carry it out obediently, and that was that.
The finishing touches took less than five days to complete. In just fifteen days, Li Ziyu had erected a city in the Wasteland. It looked pretty decent—at least it looked the part.
What merely "looked the part" in Li Ziyu’s eyes was practically a divine miracle to the Natives. They were all ecstatic, unable to believe they would be living in such an environment from now on.
Before coming here, they had never imagined such an outcome. Simply surviving would have been a great blessing. But now, not only were they alive, but life was also becoming full of hope. This caused them to instantly change their stance.
’The Undead are the enemy?’
’To hell with my Ancestors! The Undead are our beloved friends and family!’
Look at the Undead strolling leisurely through the city. Every single one of them looks so cute and kind. What’s so scary about them?
Heaven knew what efforts the small Tribes had made just to survive and find safety. Now, the Undead had given them a safe place, built a city for them, and even painstakingly brought them plants. They could just imagine that once those plants grew, their food supply would increase as well.
After all this, what more could they say? The Undead... such good people!
’We must submit! We absolutely must! Even though the Master of the Undead hasn’t officially declared us his vassal races, we’ll just consider ourselves vassals of the Undead—the kind you can’t get rid of even if you try to chase us away!’
Li Ziyu hadn’t expected that just by building a simple city for fun, he would completely win the hearts of the Natives in the Tribes.
’What a pleasant surprise.’
’A good thing.’
He recalled Zhang Peng mentioning during a chat that the Natives living here were always having conflicts due to their different Tribes, Races, cultures, and customs. Sometimes, they would even break into brawls. ’Hmm, I’ll have to manage this!’
’Constant fighting is bad, but infighting is even worse. That has to change.’
The Low Level Skeleton Undead couldn’t be relied upon for this, as they lacked the necessary intelligence. Li Ziyu assigned one Black Knight and one Skeleton Knight to the city, tasking them with controlling it and coordinating the various Races within. They would be the equivalent of a City Lord and a Chief Justice.
