Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 443 - 210: Let’s Build a City (Part 2)
The Black Knights, Skeleton Knights, and Evil Spirit Wanderers moved with extreme speed. With a devastating offensive, they easily annihilated those Tribes, instilling a sense of crisis in the more ambitious ones. Furthermore, with many Clan Leaders and Chieftains eliminated and replaced by newcomers, the voices of resistance grew weaker and weaker.
Submit, or die. Was the choice not obvious?
Did the Undead demand much? Not at all. They only asked the Tribes to contribute their burial grounds and hand over their Corpse Remains. As long as they could overcome that psychological hurdle, everything else was negotiable.
After this series of operations, the Wasteland where Li Ziyu resided underwent a massive change... it became peaceful. Those who didn’t want peace went to see their Ancestors.
To Zhang Peng’s surprise, some of the smaller Tribes had already begun to migrate. They arrived at the perimeters of the Soul Base Stations, settling within the safe zones and keeping watch alongside the Undead.
The first batch of small migrating Tribes were all Natives who could no longer survive on their own and were seeking sanctuary. In truth, they were no different from refugees.
Of course, they feared the Undead, but what did that matter? They couldn’t survive with or without the Undead anyway. So why not take a gamble? What if things turned out for the better?
As it turned out, their gamble paid off. The area around the Soul Base Stations was very safe, and they even began to use the Undead’s Power to hunt.
The hunting method was incredibly simple: they just had to lure prey into the Undead’s patrol range. They would then watch as hordes of Undead charged out, killed all the prey, and then took the bones, leaving the flesh and blood behind.
They were responsible for luring the prey; the Undead were responsible for killing it. The Natives took the flesh and blood; the Undead took the bones. It was a clear and perfect division of labor.
With a source of food, the small Tribes’ living conditions immediately improved. They were pleasantly surprised and their hearts settled, allowing them to begin a new life—one even better than before.
With this group of small Tribes setting an example, the other small Tribes grew restless. ’Anything you can do, I can do too! Why should you get to live a better life? Just because you dared to move next to the Undead? I can do that too!’
More and more small Tribes began migrating toward the Soul Base Stations, forming settlements composed of various Tribes and Races.
Zhang Peng and his men were given a new task: they had to manage these Tribes.
Many of the Tribes had generational feuds and would fight on sight. Squabbles were inevitable, and the struggle for resources was severe. Zhang Peng and his men had no choice but to act as peacemakers, rushing all over the place.
And surprisingly, the Natives of the small Tribes actually listened to them. After all, these men were the Messengers of the Undead.
Among the many small Tribes, the Minotaur Tribe, Snake-man Tribe, and Catman Tribe lived better than the rest. After all, they had their own kin looking out for them. Being part of the same group, they quickly grew familiar with one another. The Natives in the new settlements came to call them the Three Races of the Undead.
As more and more small Tribes migrated, settlements formed around each Soul Base Station that were no weaker than a medium-sized Tribe. These Natives had come to accept the Undead and were willing to follow their commands. Of course, this was only the initial stage of subjugation; it was impossible to expect them to follow the Undead into conquest.
In the blink of an eye, a month passed.
In the Desolate Land of Death, a massive black shadow emerged amidst a storm of swirling dust. The Undead Fortress burst forth from the land of death, returning once more to the Wasteland.
Li Ziyu had not been idle for the past month. He had first set up numerous Soul Base Stations in the Wasteland. Once he had just enough, he led the Undead Fortress on a charge into the Desolate Land of Death, where he set up even more Soul Base Stations. He even made a trip to the border on the other side.
The distance from Li Ziyu’s Wasteland to the opposite border was not short. Traveling in a straight line at the Undead Fortress’s top Speed, the journey would take a full three days.
Li Ziyu didn’t dare enter the Wasteland on the other side. That was likely the Central Zone, and he was afraid it would be a one-way trip. That would be a real disaster. He needed to make more preparations before he could cross over.
However, by entering the Desolate Land of Death and setting up the Soul Base Stations this time, he had made it much more difficult for He Zhiping to charge back in. He could now use the information from the Soul Base Stations to wage war against He Zhiping in the Desolate Land of Death. He could fight however he wanted; either way, he wouldn’t be at a disadvantage.
"I’m finally back!" Li Ziyu said with emotion, gazing out at the familiar Wasteland.
Wandering the Desolate Land of Death for nearly twenty days had been absolute torture. With the Mobile Fortress, he didn’t have to worry about getting injured, but the mental toll was considerable.
’It’s truly desolate, almost like a desert. All I could see every day was an endless expanse of yellow earth. Whenever the wind blew, it would inevitably turn into a storm, followed by a sky full of dust that blocked out everything. Even the sun would be obscured.’
No one could stand being in an environment like that for twenty days.
The Wasteland was also desolate, but it was far better than the Desolate Land of Death. At least here, there was vegetation, animals, insects, and birds.
There were also Soul Base Stations near the border, but very few Tribes gathered in this area. The environment here was harsher and the resources were scarcer. Rather than trying to survive here, it was better to move closer to the center.
As Li Ziyu passed the Soul Base Stations, he would occasionally see a Tribe or two gathered around them, but he paid them no mind and drove straight past.
The massive silhouette of the Undead Fortress made the tribespeople tremble in fear. But when they realized it wasn’t paying them any attention and was just passing by, they finally relaxed.
