Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress

Chapter 437 208: To Escape (Part 2)

From that one charge alone, he could tell the other Lord was a coward.

If he were the one breaking out, he would definitely have the fortress lead the charge with the cavalry following close behind. That was the only way to inflict maximum damage.

A Transmigrator Lord's greatest weapon wasn't the race of his underlings, but his massive fortress. Most Racial Warriors were helpless when faced with the crushing might of a fortress; they had no way to destroy it. The only thing that could destroy a fortress was another fortress, so using it to clear the path was the right choice.

The Dragon Lizard Lord didn't do that. He had his Dragon Lizard Cavalry clear the path, which would obviously cost him a great number of them, but his Mobile Fortress would remain safe.

Tens of thousands of Dragon Lizard Cavalry massed together and charged the Undead formation.

Admittedly, the Dragon Lizard Cavalry was powerful. They crashed into the Undead formation like a surging torrent. The front ranks were filled with Low Level Skeleton Undead who couldn't possibly stop their charge, and a path was instantly carved open.

He Zhiping was overjoyed at the sight. 'So these Undead are just for show! They're not strong at all. It makes sense, if they were really that powerful, how could there be so many of them?' Although the Skeletons continuously threw themselves at the Dragon Lizard Cavalry, they had little effect.

'At this rate, I'll break through their lines and enter the Desolate Land of Death with ease! No, more than that, I might even be able to turn this around and teach that Undead Lord a painful lesson.'

He Zhiping's mind started racing as he considered his next move.

That the Undead Front Line would be torn apart was well within Li Ziyu's expectations. Never mind the Dragon Lizard Cavalry; even the Cancerous Tumor Alliance Army had been able to kill his Skeleton Undead by the millions. He was only using them as cannon fodder. If one of them could take down a single enemy, it was worth it.

'Do you really think I'd let you escape just like that?'

A smile touched Li Ziyu's lips.

Hidden within these battle formations, behind the Skeleton Undead at the front, were Skeleton Crossbowmen. He had crafted a full 100,000 Hand Crossbows and equipped his Skeleton Undead with them.

Sure enough, as the enemy charged into the fray and tried to force a breakthrough, the Skeleton Crossbowmen unleashed their fury. Since they were all Undead, there was no fear of friendly fire; they aimed directly at the densest concentrations of Dragon Lizard Knights and fired indiscriminately.

With a chorus of twanging bowstrings, streams of Crossbow Arrows shot through the air.

A Hand Crossbow wasn't a High Level Weapon, nor was its Attack Power particularly high. It couldn't compare to a Skeleton Longbowman's weapon, and was even inferior to a Skeleton Short Bowman's, but what it lacked in quality, it made up for in sheer numbers!

The simultaneous fire of 100,000 Hand Crossbows blotted out the sky, forming a dense rain of arrows that fell in concentrated volleys upon the enemy ranks.

This sudden turn of events startled He Zhiping. The Crossbow Arrows were useless against his Fortress, but their impact on the Dragon Lizard Cavalry was significant.

Out in the open, the Dragon Lizard Cavalry could have used its agility and Speed to easily dodge the arrows without taking any injuries. They wouldn't even bat an eye at facing a hundred arrows or so. But now, their luck had run out. This wasn't a hundred arrows; it was tens of thousands!

They were mired in a sea of Undead, with mindless ghouls pouncing on them from all sides, severely limiting their space to maneuver. Combined with the concentrated volleys of arrows, many unprepared Dragon Lizard Cavalry were instantly riddled with shafts until they looked like hedgehogs, dead beyond dead.

Of course, most of the Dragon Lizard Cavalry being shot down were Light Cavalry. Among the Dragon Rider race, they served as scouts and harassing units, so their combat strength wasn't high. Still, the losses made He Zhiping's heart ache.

These were troops he had painstakingly spent resources to create; of course he was devastated to lose so many.

His anguish quickly turned to terror when he realized the enemy's rain of arrows hadn't stopped!

In addition to the 100,000 Skeleton Crossbowmen, Li Ziyu also had Skeleton Short Bowmen and Longbowmen. These two unit types had been summoned specifically for the Dragon Lizard Lord, and now they too joined the fray, loosing arrows at the Dragon Lizard Cavalry as if they were free.

In a desperate attempt to break through, He Zhiping had all his Dragon Lizard Cavalry mass together for a large-scale charge. But this just gave the Skeleton Short Bowmen and Longbowmen the perfect opportunity. Such a dense formation of enemies was one giant target; they didn't even need to aim, just loose their arrows.

Aiming?

No need for that!

Arrows blotted out the sky. What was supposed to be a breakout battle had been turned into a tower defense game. He Zhiping was the boss monster trying to break through the encirclement, while the Skeleton Undead, Skeleton Crossbowmen, Skeleton Longbowmen, and Skeleton Short Bowmen were the towers Li Ziyu had built.

Inside the Dragon Lizard Fortress, He Zhiping was in a state of impotent rage, furiously cursing Li Ziyu and his entire family. But he also understood there was no turning back. They had already plunged into the Undead horde and suffered considerable casualties under the baptism of arrows. They could either grit their teeth and punch through, or they would die right here.

"Charge!"

He Zhiping screamed like a madman. Even without his orders, the Dragon Rider Cavalry understood the situation and charged forward desperately, their lives on the line. The fortress continued its steady advance behind them.

His eyes bloodshot with desperation, He Zhiping looked up. They were about to break through the Undead encirclement, but just then, a line of tall figures appeared behind the Undead ranks, and the sight made his breath catch in his throat.

'What is that?'

They were Undead, each 300cm tall, clad in Heavy Armor, and carrying massive hammers in their hands. They were none other than the Elite Heavy Hammer Skeleton Warriors. In front of them, a group of slow-moving creatures laboriously shuffled into a small square formation. They were the Skeleton Shooter-1 Type.
