Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 428 205: Collapse at the First Blow
As one of the core units of the Undead Race, the Skeleton Knights' Charge was naturally not so simple. The soul of each Skeleton Knight was linked to the others, forming a terrifying Force Field. They charged in a neat triangular cavalry formation. As their speed increased, they lowered their bodies and gripped their Knight's Lances tightly. A translucent, ghostly-blue Protection Shield materialized around them, making them seem like a single entity.
The Soul Warhorses ran faster and faster, their trot turning into a full gallop. Flames erupted from beneath their hooves, leaving a trail of fire. The farther they ran, the more powerful their momentum became, and the larger their Force Field grew. It was like an army of thousands. An overwhelming tide of ghostly-blue flames enveloped all the charging Skeleton Knights.
Watching this scene from afar, the Dragon Lizard Knights were stunned. 'This... doesn't look like they're Human!'
Both sides increased their speed, the distance between them rapidly closing. The Dragon Lizard Knights finally got a clear look at what kind of Knights they were facing.
Undead?!
An aura of fear washed over them—the oppressive feeling of death itself.
The Dragon Lizard Knight Captain knew he had been reckless. He had arrogantly assumed they were just Human Cavalry, never expecting them to be Undead Cavalry. But it was impossible for him to stop now. His Dragon Mount's speed was already maxed out, and the Undead's Charge on the other side had reached its peak.
At this point, stopping or turning would only allow the Undead to claim an even greater victory.
'Charge!'
'Charging through is the only option left!'
To bolster their morale, he roared, "We are the mighty Dragon Lizard Race! For our great Lord, charge—"
"Charge!"
The Dragon Lizard Knights met the Skeleton Knights head-on.
The Dragon Lizard Knight Captain, charging at the very front, was the first to make contact with the Skeleton Knights. The initial sensation was a spiritual impact that shook his soul, leaving him dizzy. This was immediately followed by a searing heat that felt like it was burning his very soul. He could barely withstand it, and they hadn't even physically clashed yet.
He roared, trying to swing his sword, but the oncoming Skeleton Knight thrust its Knight's Lance forward.
SHUNK—
The Knight's Lance passed through his chest without any resistance, half the shaft bursting out from the Dragon Lizard Knight Captain's back. His Armor, his Scale Armor—they were as useless as paper. He stood there, stunned, holding his Great Saber aloft, and died without ever landing a single blow.
Before he died, he felt no pain from being run through. His soul had already been incinerated by the Skeleton Knights' Force Field before the Knight's Lance even pierced him. That raised sword was meant to be his final strike, but he never imagined the Skeleton Knight wouldn't even give him the chance.
After impaling the Dragon Lizard Knight Captain, the Skeleton Knight immediately released its lance. As it brushed past the captain, it fluidly drew the Two-Handed Knight Broadsword from its back and, with a single horizontal sweep, cut the next shrieking Dragon Lizard Knight in half at the waist.
CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP!
Amidst the thunder of hooves and endless screams, the Skeleton Knights slaughtered their way straight through the Dragon Lizard Knights' Charge. They galloped another hundred meters before reining in their Soul Warhorses, turning them around to face the Dragon Lizard Knights.
Masterless Dragon Mounts scrambled about in every direction. In just a single Charge, more than seventy percent of the Dragon Lizard Knights had been lost. The survivors were utterly terrified.
'This is too terrifying! We've never experienced such an absurd battle!'
'The Undead's Cavalry is this terrifying?!'
To clash with them was to die; to touch them was to perish. Anyone who dared to engage was met with certain death. The Dragon Lizard Knights who survived were only alive because they saw how bad the situation was and immediately dodged out of the way.
Now that the battle had begun, there was no reason to let them go. The Skeleton Knights raised their Two-Handed Knight Swords, aimed at the Dragon Lizard Knights, and their Soul Warhorses immediately began to gallop again.
The Dragon Lizard Knights had already had their courage shattered by the first wave. How could they dare to clash with the Skeleton Knights again? Using their remaining momentum, they spurred their Dragon Mounts into a desperate forward dash.
To their despair, they couldn't outrun them. Their Dragon Mounts were actually slower than the Soul Warhorses. They were relentlessly overtaken and killed one by one, leaving fewer than ten injured Dragon Lizard Knights. All the rest were slain on the spot, as dead as could be.
The Skeleton Knights didn't even spare the Dragon Mounts, let alone the Dragon Lizard Knights. Whenever they caught up, a single swing of their sword was enough to decapitate them.
The battle came quickly and ended just as fast. After two Charges, the Dragon Lizard Knights were no more...
The Dogmen, hiding in their Tribe, witnessed the entire scene. Every single one of them had their eyes wide as saucers, their mouths hanging open, unable to close them.
'What was that? What in the world was that? It's over just like that?'
They knew from experience just how strong the Dragon Lizard Knights were. In the eyes of the Dogmen, they were an invincible force. But now, they had all been slaughtered as easily as chopping vegetables. It was a clean sweep. And looking at those flame-wreathed Cavalry, not only were none of them dead, but not a single one was even injured. They even had the presence of mind to start collecting the corpses.
'Seriously,' they thought, 'aren't you guys being a little too calm about this?'
The Skeleton Knight who led the charge was directing the others to collect the bodies. They could do without other spoils, but not the corpses. Those couldn't be wasted. Perhaps in the future, these very bodies would become their brothers-in-arms. Although the numbers were small, every little bit counts.
While the other Skeleton Knights collected the corpses, he turned his gaze toward the Dogman Tribe. He could sense many life auras over there, but they were far weaker than those of the Dragon Lizard Knights. 'They probably aren't very powerful beings,' he thought.
