Chapter 426 204: Night Raid on the Dogmen

  • Next Chapter

"Kill them!"

"Get the women and children and run!"

"We'll fight you to the death!"

In a Dogman Tribe of about a thousand, flames surged into the sky and battle cries rose from all around. On what should have been a peaceful night, they were hit by a surprise attack from the enemy—a group of Lizardmen riding Sub-dragon Beasts. The Dogman sentries were useless; they were shot dead by the Lizardmen before they could even sound an alarm, allowing the enemy to charge into the defenseless Tribe.

The Canine Elder Race Leader was jolted awake by the sounds of wailing and slaughter. He instantly broke out in a cold sweat. Without even needing to look outside, he knew what was happening. Night raids were a common affair between Tribes.

He had no time to think. He immediately grabbed his Weapon and charged out of his home, simultaneously organizing his people to resist while ordering the women and children to get away.

With the situation unclear, the Canine Elder Race Leader didn't dare bet on being able to defeat the enemy. He could only prepare for the worst.

Dogmen were not a Race known for their combat prowess in the Wasteland, but they could at least put up a fight against familiar foes. However, as the old Clan Leader rallied his men, he realized that the Lizardmen attacking them were a kind he had never seen before.

These Lizardmen were terrifyingly strong, far beyond anything the Dogmen could handle. His people were scrambling to fight back—many hadn't even gotten dressed, and their Weapons were a motley collection of whatever they could grab. The enemy, on the other hand, had come fully prepared, clad in helmets and armor, wielding high-quality Weapons, and mounted on ferocious Sub-dragon Beasts.

Many Dogmen were slain in their sleep by the Dragon Lizard Cavalry. By the time the old Clan Leader managed to rally his people, he discovered he had, at most, around two hundred able to fight. Given the enemy's brutal and overwhelming attack, there was no way those two hundred could hold them back!

It's over!

The Dogman Tribe is finished!

The old Clan Leader turned to look. In the Darkness, a group of Dogman women had already escaped the Tribe, protecting the children.

'I hope they can get away.'

The Canine Elder Race Leader prayed silently, 'As long as the women and children get out, there's still a chance.' He knew they couldn't defeat their enemy, but for the sake of the women and children, they had to fight. He raised the blade in his hand and bellowed, "My kinsmen, we cannot retreat! We fight them to the death! Charge—"

"Kill!"

"Charge!"

Facing this battle of annihilation, the Dogmen knew there was no path of retreat. They had no choice but to fight to the death.

Running was pointless. The enemy rode Sub-dragon Beasts and were much faster. The more they ran, the quicker they would die. If the warriors fled, the women and children would stand no chance of escape. Since death was certain, they might as well make it a glorious one and buy the women and children more time!

Facing the charging Dogmen, the Dragon Lizard People merely sneered, spurring their Dragon Mounts to charge.

The fight was unfair from the start. The Dragon Lizard People were the elite of the Lizardman Race. Possessing the blood of Giant Dragons, their combat power was already off the charts. Against a pack of weakling Dogmen, the outcome was never in doubt.

It was a massacre.

The Dogmen threw themselves forward wave after wave, fighting to the death to buy time, but it was futile. They were cut down as soon as they charged. Even the wounded who had already collapsed used their final ounce of strength to lunge at the Dragon Lizard Knights, sacrificing their lives to stall for just a moment longer.

Tears streamed down the Canine Elder Race Leader's face as he watched. 'These are my people, the hope of our Tribe, and they're all dying just like this.'

'Why are these damned Lizardmen attacking us?'

'What do they want?'

'If they wanted resources, they could have just said so! Did they really have to slaughter everyone?'

'It's too late for words now. The Tribe... is finished.'
