Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 425 204: Night Raid on the Dogmen (2)
Hearing Liu Xingxing, Li Ziyu turned his gaze back to him and chuckled. "I was wondering how long you could hold out. You finally asked, after all. This place will do. Alright, I'll show you the true power of my Mobile Fortress now that it has been upgraded to a Fortress."
The words left Liu Xingxing completely baffled. 'What true capabilities? Wasn't it that sudden change in its technology? Could there be something else he hasn't shown yet?'
Li Ziyu patted the battlement next to him and gave the order, "Alright, stop here."
As the command was given, the Fortress shuddered once, then ground to a halt.
Li Ziyu opened the system interface and selected "Build."
A construction site immediately materialized on the Wasteland ahead, kicking up clouds of dust. Liu Xingxing was even more confused now; he still had no idea what Li Ziyu was up to. The structures of Transmigrator Lords like them were supposed to be built on their Mobile Fortresses. How was Li Ziyu able to build somewhere else? It was a little bizarre.
'Could this be the "true capability" Li Ziyu was talking about?'
'But this ability seems pretty underwhelming, doesn't it? It doesn't look very useful.'
Li Ziyu's fingers kept tapping in the air. He wasn't building just one structure, but an entire architectural complex.
The first thing to appear on the construction site was a pillar. Its main body was formed from sections of bone stacked one on top of the other. From a distance, it looked as if a massive spinal column had been erected upon the earth. It grew section by section, finally stopping when it reached a height of 15 meters.
Above the spinal "utility pole," a Fireball appeared, suspended in the air like a Little Sun. Energy was channeled from the Fireball into the "pole," and then more bones materialized to encase and protect it.
Below the "utility pole," rows of tomb-like structures began to form.
Liu Xingxing was completely baffled. He couldn't figure out what these things were; he had never seen anything like them before.
Li Ziyu closed the system interface, pointed to the "utility pole," and asked, "Xingxing, do you know what that is?"
Liu Xingxing shook his head. It was clearly Undead Architecture, but he had no idea what it did. He couldn't understand why Li Ziyu would erect a "utility pole" and then build so many tombs beneath it, making the whole place look like a Cemetery.
Gazing at the construction site ahead, Li Ziyu explained, "That pillar in the middle is called a Soul Base Station. Together with the Soul Base Station, this whole cluster of buildings functions as a military garrison. You can think of it as a small staging area for troops."
What?!
Even if Liu Xingxing was slow, he understood the implication of Li Ziyu's words. This was a barracks!
But what was the use of building a barracks out here in the desolate wilderness? He looked at Li Ziyu again and asked, "Boss, even if you're going to build a place to station troops, shouldn't it be in the Wraith Mountain Range or on a resource point? What's the point of building it here?"
Li Ziyu grinned at him. "You're right. But what if I build lots of them? What if I use these Soul Base Stations to create a communications network?"
'Then you could control all the information in this Wasteland!'
Liu Xingxing didn't need Li Ziyu to explain further. He got it.
A single barracks wasn't a big deal on its own; it was basically just a detached outpost for Li Ziyu. But if he could keep building them and use them to relay information, it would be like projecting his military presence across the entire land! When war broke out again, Li Ziyu would know the enemy's location, no matter where they were!
'Holy shit, the Boss is incredible!'
There were many kinds of structures that could be built around a Soul Base Station, but with the threat of the Dragon Lizard Lord looming over the Wasteland, Li Ziyu didn't bother with any others. He focused on buildings for garrisoning troops and for defense. This way, even if the Dragon Lizard Lord discovered these Soul Base Stations and tried to attack, Li Ziyu would get word of it.
He could even use the Soul Base Stations to strike back and delay the enemy. That was their strategic significance.
A Soul Base Station wasn't cheap to build; a single one cost 10,000 units of Soul Energy. However, if he could use them to gather massive amounts of intel and solidify his position in the Wasteland, it was a price well worth paying.
Li Ziyu had done the math very carefully.
Aside from the Soul Base Station, the construction of the tombs was paid for almost entirely with Skeleton Undead. He had built a total of four tombs, each capable of holding twenty thousand Skeleton Undead. This meant 80,000 Skeleton Undead were now garrisoned around this single Soul Base Station. Even though Skeleton Undead were weak, that was still a massive number. Any enemy who wanted to forcibly destroy the station would have to spend a significant amount of time dealing with them.
These Skeleton Undead would protect the Soul Base Station, keeping other creatures from getting too close. If they were Wild Beasts or Magical Beasts, the Undead would attack on sight and collect the corpses. As long as Li Ziyu granted the permission, the Soul Base Station would then automatically convert these corpses into more Skeleton Undead. Of course, the only resource harvested from the bodies in this process would be the skeletons themselves; all other resources would be lost, which was rather wasteful.
In the case of sapient Races, the Undead wouldn't initiate an attack as long as they didn't come too close. The Undead would patrol within a set perimeter and wouldn't strike without provocation.
Li Ziyu dispatched 10 Evil Spirit Wanderers to patrol the surroundings and prevent anyone from disrupting the station's construction. Then, he had the fortress start up again and move on. There was no need for him to linger.
His plan was to deploy a station at set intervals across the Wasteland, linking them to create the widest possible range for information transfer. This would form an intelligence network covering the entire Wasteland. He refused to believe that once it was complete, any information could possibly escape his notice.
