Chapter 468: Chapter 43: Grand Melee (Part 3)
As a result, the Nuclear Crystal Beasts ran headlong into an encounter battle with the Beastman army in the field.
Yuan Xiaobo stood atop a fortress with his Spiritual Armed Militia Corps and the Super Gravity Slimes, watching the battle rage between the Beastman army and the Nuclear Crystal Beasts outside.
"I’ve long heard how formidable these Nuclear Crystal Beasts are, but I’ve never seen it for myself."
"Now that I see them, they truly live up to their reputation!"
The Beastman army outside the walls was the Beastmen’s main force. Their troops were high-tier, and they had already clashed with Yuan Xiaobo’s armed militia several times, with neither side able to secure a definitive victory.
And yet, faced with the onslaught of the Nuclear Crystal Beast horde, they were surprisingly unable to gain an overwhelming advantage.
"Lord Yuan, should we take this chance to...?" a Human Race commander next to Yuan Xiaobo asked, making a gesture for a surprise attack.
"Not so fast. Look closely. The Beastmen’s elite troops are hiding in their ranks! They’re watching us!"
Yuan Xiaobo shook his head, pointing toward the Beastman army.
The Human Race commander squinted but couldn’t see anything. He then took out a pair of binoculars to get a better look, finally spotting the hidden Beastman elites among their reserves.
They were all lying prone, concealed among the ranks of regular Beastmen.
"You were right. Your eyes are sharp, Lord Yuan," the commander said in admiration, dropping the subject of a surprise attack.
The Beastman legion waited for a while, but when there was no sign of the Human Race army launching a surprise attack, they had no choice but to abandon their original plan.
The elite Beastmen hidden within the legion moved out as one, and in just a few minutes, they had wiped out the attacking wave of Nuclear Crystal Beasts.
Within the Beastman legion, the high-ranking officers watched the battlefield, looking bored.
"These humans are such cowards. And here I thought this was going to be a big deal!"
"And all for what? Just a bunch of wild beasts?"
A Beastman Lord traveling with the army grumbled.
"That’s mainly because this army of ours is too strong. If you look at the chat channels, you’ll see plenty of our other forces couldn’t stop the beast hordes, or got caught in a pincer attack by the Human Race and took heavy losses,"
another, more rational Beastman Lord replied.
The Beastman Lord who was clearly in charge ignored their idle chatter. He asked his subordinate lords, "What’s the word from the lords to the south? Did they hold their territory?"
"It’s strange. The beasts aren’t attacking the territories. They only seem interested in creatures out in the open!"
Hearing this from his subordinate, the lead Beastman Lord declared confidently, "Then let the ones in the rear focus on producing resources and soldiers. Tell them not to worry about the beasts outside."
"We’ll let others handle the beasts in the wilds. When it comes to field battles, we Beastmen have nothing to fear from them!"
"Let’s just crush them!"
"Oh, right. We’ve been fighting the Human Race for so long that we’ve already met the quota of kills required for the sacrifice."
"Now that the spatial barrier is gone, we should consider attacking in the other two directions!"
"We don’t know what race is to the north, but since they don’t dare to attack us, they’re probably a soft target. Let’s hit them first!"
"Before anyone else can react, we might just be able to seize the advantage!"
"A brilliant plan, my lord!"
...
And so, a four-way free-for-all began.
On the Titan Continent, the Noble Lords and Civilian Lords of the Titan Race united to resist the enemy invasion.
Their enemies included the Slimes sent by Lin Yu, the Nuclear Crystal Beasts dispatched by the Crystal Core Giant, and small contingents of elite Beastman troops.
On the Beastman Continent and the southern Human Race continent, the clear boundaries between Human Race Lords and Beastman Lords had dissolved. Their forces infiltrated one another, and their territories became a tangled mess.
Adding to the chaos, the Nuclear Crystal Beasts sent by the Crystal Core Giant swarmed the wilds in massive numbers.
The only safe zones left were the cities within the territories. To step outside a city wall was to enter a war zone.
Among the common lords of both races, none could afford to focus on peaceful development and logistics anymore. Every remaining lord had conscripted their entire populace for war; every patch of land had become a battlefield.
