Chapter 1013: Cathedral
The remaining black-armored cavalry did not launch another attack, fleeing in fear, intimidated by the fireball Linda had released, even their warhorses couldn’t maintain stability.
Seeing the departure of the black-armored cavalry, Linda instantly breathed a sigh of relief and asked Lauren beside her:
“Do you know who those people are? You’ve spent years in the army, you should have some insight.”
Lauren contemplated and said, “They do seem to be army warhorses, but I’ve never heard of any legion having black-armored cavalry. It’s likely someone’s private army using the Imperial Legion’s resources.”
“Holy Maiden, we should hurry to the Imperial Capital, or these people might attempt a second assassination.”
Linda remained calm, shaking her head and said, “They probably won’t have the chance. Such a number of cavalry suddenly appearing near the Imperial Capital surely has already alarmed those on that side. They’re probably fleeing as fast as they can, and won’t attack us again, plus the people from the Imperial Capital should also be on their way here.”
Linda was no fool; she could comprehend these matters, so she wasn’t flustered at all.
Indeed.
Just as they stepped out of the Lixia Jungle, they saw from afar a large group of people and horses approaching head-on, led by the Magic Consultant, Lune.
Lune’s proficiency in magic was quite substantial, though not as powerful as Takka, but still one of the few Great Mages in the Empire.
“Niece, you’ve traveled far, it must have been tiring!” Lune said with a smile upon seeing Linda. He and Takka were both apprentice brothers, both legendary mages, disciples of Gandalf, although their relationship seemed less cordial.
Linda looked at him expressionless, calmly stating, “Consultant Lune, my current title is Saintess of the All Beings Sect, please mind the address.”
Lune’s expression didn’t change, he admitted with a smile:
“My oversight, my oversight, haha.”
Saying so, his demeanor turned serious, speaking in a deep voice, “I heard you were attacked, glad nothing happened to you, I was shocked when I heard the news, have you figured out who did it?”
Should the Saintess fall to an assassination, the situation would escalate dramatically, angering that God would potentially spell disaster for the entire Empire.
The attackers harbored deep malice, wishing to plunge the Empire into the Abyss, yet their motive remained unclear.
Logically, if it was someone from the Empire, then once the Empire was annihilated by the Demon Race, it would be catastrophic for everyone.
This is pure harm without benefit.
It’s even less likely to be someone from other countries, the law of interdependence is universally understood, the Demon Race’s momentum seeks the destruction of all human nations, once the Empire collapses, they’ll suffer too, their demise would be imminent.
Linda shook her head, saying, “I don’t know, it was a group of black-armored cavalry, the horses were warhorses, likely linked to the Empire’s legions.”
Lune also frowned momentarily without leads, hearing Linda’s description, those black-armored cavalry were well-equipped and formidable, comparable to veterans like Lauren on the front lines.
Someone capable of organizing such a force must hold substantial power in the Empire, at least ruling over a domain unchallenged, to shield from others’ scrutiny, it couldn’t be that an unknown army just appeared on the Empire’s soil out of nowhere.
Linda asked indifferently, “Consultant Lune, any ideas?”
Lune’s expression flickered, uncomfortable with Linda’s address, he pondered a moment and shared his thoughts:
“This cavalry seems like it was drafted from some legion, donned different gear, then came to carry out the assassination.”
“The Forbidden Guard is directly under His Majesty’s control, likely not plausible, but this area is very close to Count Fengye’s territory.”
He looked towards the east, his expression grave, if this was indeed Count Fengye’s doing, it spelled trouble.
Count Fengye commands an elite legion, his private army, wielding formidable military strength, enough to confront any ace legion of the Empire head-on.
With the Empire facing an invasion from the Demon Race, internal conflict would obliterate the entire situation.
“Count Fengye?” Linda understood instantly.
On the surface, the Empire has only three Great Mages, Imperial Magic Consultant Lune, Magic Guild’s president Takka, and this Count Fengye, these three were once renowned magic prodigies, apprenticing under the legendary mage Gandalf in their youth.
Gandalf was hailed as a legendary mage mainly due to his mighty prowess, the average Great Mage was no match for him, before his death, even the one in the Golden Empire did not dare claim to be the strongest mage, the two were probably on par, yet neither could transcend that realm.
This was a lament for all mages, as if it was a natural shackle binding them, even legendary mages like Gandalf couldn’t leap across that chasm akin to a strait.
Lune’s tone shifted, almost as if he’d forgotten the prior topic, smilingly said, “Holy Maiden, what matters bring you to the Imperial Capital?”
Linda gave him a strange look, spoke as if it was self-evident, “Of course it’s to build a chapel, the All Beings Sect is now the national religion, establishing a chapel in the Imperial Capital seems logical.”
Lune’s smile widened, appearing like a cunning old fox, almost displaying deceitfully shrewd expressions on his face: “Indeed, after discussion, we thought it better for the Holy Maiden to develop the faith from the border towns, responding to the Demon Race’s invasion.”
